It was so easy to get a quote and work was done very timely. I had a large dead native cherry removed from a very crowded neighborhood in NE Seattle. As requested, they took extra care not to damage any of my many plants surrounding the dead tree and also removed all the rounds and branches. My yard looks pristine after the removal. Don't believe the hype of other positive reviews. If you have a tree down, maybe Apical is ok. In our case we had a tree that require pruning, it was growing into the neighbors yard, etc. Roger indicated, "we don't do that type of work" -- ok, great -- what would you recommend? "...well you could cut the dead off, and I guess some light pruning" -- ok, do you want to give me a bid on that? Communication with Roger proved to be difficult and I didn't want to get into the work stage of this job knowing there were problems at the bidding with comms. Roger was rude, unprofessional and didn't have any suggestions I'll have to rely on someone else to help me determine how we can keep our tree happy and healthy. Tried to engage Apical, but Andrew(?) was so rude and arrogant, that I realized quickly that I didn't want to work with him. I first said that I wanted the top third of our tree cut and he said, "I'm not interested in that!--Why would you want to do that?" I replied, "Well, it's in the wires and it isn't healthy. We heard about Apical Tree Services from Plant Amnesty (http://www.plantamnesty.org/home/index.aspx). Plant Amnesty only recommends people who are ISA Certified in tree pruning and actively concerned about tree welfare (something about not topping trees?). We have three massive Big Leaf maple trees on our property on a steep hill. Apical Tree Services came by and provided an estimate for our trees to clean-out the deadwood and clear the lower branches that were too close to the sidewalk. They were very conscious of the privacy that we want to maintain with the tree branches. They worked for quite a few hours with a guy crazy high in our trees cutting out the deadwood, and a man below (who had set up cones to keep passerbys from getting hurt) who would send the branches through a large wood chipper. They cleaned out a ton of dead wood, and the trees looked fantastic and healthy afterwards. The guy (maybe Andrew?) also walked around the trees with me afterward to explain the health of my trees, and a few problems that I should keep my eye on in the next 5-10 years. I've never had to work with an apiarist before but my neighbor suggested this company. I was really pleased with the service. They are really busy so it took a while to get on the calendar, but on the day of they arrived promptly at 8:15am. Everyone was super pleasant and they answered all my questions and accommodated my special request and particulars. Communication was easy, both in person and via phone/text before/after the actual appointment. They removed the giant tree and left the big logs as rounds in a pile right where I requested. read more

Roger gets 5 stars from me. He's been my arborist for several years. He does the work quickly and is careful to safeguard plants in the larger garden area. The ornamental pear was diseased and needed to come down. Afterwards it was hard to imagine the tree was ever there. The garden came back together seamlessly. I have used Apical many times in the past two years (at least 5). I have a ton of trees /shrubs /rhodies on my property and I didn't want a hack job. I started by asking Molbak's who they recommend. They said to call Plant Amnesty in Seattle. Got three names, and selected Rodger/Apical. They do a truly wonderful job, come when they say they will, have very competitive rates, and know their stuff. Rodger and his crew worked on our property yesterday. They trimmed branches from 2 large pine trees, removed several dead trees, cut back blackberry bushes, and trimmed growth back away from the roof line and power line. I have used these guys for at least 6 years, with them coming out every couple years or so to help manage 2 extremely large trees, each over 45 ft (one cedar and one fir), as well as a host of other smaller trees on our property. Both Roger and his partner, whose name escapes me at the moment, were and are extremely professional. They understand how to maintain and care for the trees so that they continue to live long healthy lives. In addition, they have a wealth of knowledge about variety, growth pattern, common diseases and how to deal with them. When we have needed their services quickly, they were able to be there within the day! I have found them to be lovely people. They have never been rude or unprofessional (as another reviewer suggests). I would recommend them to anyone who cares about the welfare of the trees on their property. This company may do a good job servicing trees, but one of their employees is so rude and unprofessional that I would advise others not to hire them--after parking their truck in a way that was partially blocking my neighbor's driveway, one of the guys had the audacity to say "what, do you have something to say to me?" in an extremely rude tone to a neighbor who was observing all of this. I have a large (maybe even huge) Japanese Maple that I have neglected for thirty years. Its was awful large and I was getting nervous. I was afraid they would recommend removing it completely. Apical came over, had a look, suggested a course of action and quoted a price. They were busy at the time and said they could get to it in about a month or two. I was not sure if they would follow up. About a month later I recieved a call and we arranged a time. They showed up and handled the job in a couple of hours. They worked hard and fast. No wasted talk or time. Removed all the debris. The quoted price was the price paid. The tree is just starting to green up and it looks great. They suggested calling them back again in a couple of years. They did not try to sell up or suggest any kind of a yearly "maintenace" program.
