I went here with a large group on what looked like a busy night. One of my family members has made several awesome things here. We had a great time (except for a portion of our party who was having a hard time for unrelated reasons, which was embarrassingly taken out on the staff who, ill say, handled it all very well - I wish I could have apologized + thanked them in person). They were exceptionally kind to me despite my hangriness and stayed positive throughout the hours of the evening - even overtime. I am thoroughly impressed and grateful. We had to draw the entire sunflower image ourselves and then the instructor was going so fast it was hard to keep up. Several of us had issues. For this to be my first time ever doing an activity like this it really ended pretty bad. It wasn't a great experience for me. I would like to suggest that maybe for classes you all offer an option for the image to be shaded on the boards for classes to help individuals like myself who has never done this before. I would rate my experience 1/10 for sure.

Admission is free, but the art center is a community nonprofit that always appreciates donations. The Art Center is easy for Oak Ridge visitors (and even residents) to overlook because it's not on a major street. It's not far away though -- in fact, it's only a short walk from sites like the American Museum of Science and Energy, the Oak Ridge Civic Center, and the Peace Bell (or you can drive, which is what most folks do). Operating hours are limited, so call ahead.

Mike was an absolute incredible instructor. He met every person where they were at, and ensured that everyone left with a mug they were proud of. My husband and I had SO much fun in this class. Also cool, they do weekend craft workshops that are super affordable. She spreads the craft options on the entry table with prices listed and you tell her what one you want to work on. You can get $5 crafts for kids while you do a $40. Many craft places have a blanket price of $60 and up, regardless of age or project, which I know would deter me from bringing my kids. They also sell wooden DIY craft kits to bring home. They supply everything but the paint. There were many options.

She brings her personal experience with natural dyeing and piecing, and a boatload of patience for our many, many questions. She also adapts her lesson plans to the interests of the group, and the strengths and weaknesses of the students in the group.
