We contracted with them to move our offices to a new location. They never showed up. When we called after waiting almost two hours we were told "none of my employees showed up today." We ended up having to contact other movers to come the next day. So instead of two days with our offices closed we had to have three and we wasted an entire day because we had already packed our phones, computers, files, etc. I know somethings are beyond the owners control, but someone could have called us at least to let us know what was going on. read more

I used this company for a long distance move. They're terrible, in my opinion. They left behind several pieces of furniture and didn't tell me. Had I not been back in town a few days later to check on my old house, I wouldn't have known. They left broken glass in the floor of my old house, and they didn't return my keys. I called "Chis" at the office and complained, only to have him tell me it was a bigger job than they expected and, essentially, that I should be happy that they only charged what they did. When I originally called to get a quote, I offered to have Chris or someone else come out and take a look at the job before they started, and they didn't. So imagine my surprise to hear him tell me it was a bigger job than they expected. The bottom line was that either by incompetence or a lack of capacity, they did a really bad job. He's been in the moving business since his mother took him to the office and put him in a play pen next to her desk. He's the most honest man I've ever knew. On the rare occasion of accidental breakage or damage he has always repaired or replaced the damaged item immediately. The moving business is hard work. Workers stay out due to sickness or other problems and that makes it difficult to manage a moving company. But... Appalachian Mvg and it's owner Chris Allen are always fair and honest and do the best job in all the Tri-City area and beyond. Don't let two reviews lead you astray to other moving companies that don't have the insurance to cover your household belongings or that want deposits paid up front. This is the moving company from hell. The first day they arrive around 11:00 am. The truck they had was to big for the driveway. They had to go get another smaller truck to off load to the larger truck. At the end of the day one, the movers had no intention of putting the rest of the furniture on the truck, one of the men said he would come back and finish helping pack and move the rest of the furniture and boxes, etc., for $200. He showed up for a couple of hours of work in the afternoon to pack. We waited for three more days to get packed and move the remainder of furniture and items, no show. They were slow to get the heavy things moved. They left some of the furniture the first day and two truck loads and two more days later things were finally moved. Things were all askew at the new house. Things taken apart were not reassembled. Boxes were clearly marked which room to go in but some were not put where they were suppose to go.Heavy things were put on light weighted boxes, etc. We were quoted at one price and ended up having to pay three separate times just to get things moved.
