What a wonderful time! We took a private ride. If possible, I would encourage this choice. The barn is immaculate. The horses are clean, well fed, & well trained. Easy tutorial for me. Trails are challenging, but as a "beginner rider", I never was uncomfortable. Sadie took great pics. Then once back at the barn she air- dropped them to my phone. Please be aware-no Fanny packs, nor purses, sunglasses are discouraged. Phones are to be put on silent and tucked in pocket. Weight restrictions for riders are strictly enforced. GPS gave good directions to business. However, I had no GPS signal for return; but had easy time back tracking. I highly recommend this business! read more

The trail ride was nice but there was room for improvement. They seem to be more in the horse business than the customer service business. After driving 4 miles on a windy/steep road you arrive at the barn. There is an intro with instructions before you get on the horse but it is very faced-paced and there is no chance to "meet" your horse or practice your skills before taking off. Our guide quickly introduced herself but we didn't get any interaction with her, it was all fast-paced. The guide did remind us throughout the ride of relevant instructions. I did the 2 hour trail ride, it was a good amount of time and very peaceful. My horse was Redjack and he was the last in line of a group of 7. He liked going at his own pace but would respond when I instructed him. Being last in the line made it difficult to hear everything the guide said. Before we attempted trotting she gave us quick instructions and I felt very insecure once the horses took off on a trot. Once we got back to the barn the next group was getting ready to go out, it seemed kind of like an assembly line. The check-out afterwards felt awkward where the guide took our payment, she did not act appreciative when I left a tip. They have a sign at the checkout where you can get a discount if you leave a review so I would suspect this has inflated their amount of 5-star reviews. Overall the ride was nice but I did not leave feeling like I had a good customer service experience or got any interaction/knowledge from the guide or interaction with the horse other than riding it. read more

I don't normally leave bad reviews but I just needed to warn people about how I was treated and why customer service matters. My husband and I were in Blue Ridge Georgia for our 1 year anniversary trip and wanted to ride horses because I saw it on TikTok and this place had good reviews. I called on a Monday and we were trying to ride on that Friday or Saturday of that week. The woman on the phone wasn't the most friendly and when I asked if they would cancel if there were snow flurries, the reply was "I don't know ma'am. No idea what the weather is this far in advance" (Mind you, it's Monday and we were set to ride Friday at this point AND she didn't even tell me what the cancellation process would be.) She took all my info and we were set. I was feeling a little weird about it, but thought "heck, she may just be having a rough day". Come Friday, we arrive at the farm and the gate is locked. I call and the same woman answers and I ask if they can unlock the gate or if we were just there too early. Her response was that all rides were canceled that day and she called everyone who was scheduled the day before to reschedule. I told her that no one called me and she said she didn't have me down. I know this doesn't sound THAT bad, but the way she made me feel like it was my fault and she just kept repeating that she called everyone scheduled. I was so frustrated and told her it was fine and I'd check with my husband about rescheduling. When we got off the phone, my husband heard the whole convo and was like "I do not like how you were just treated and it makes me sick to my stomach. I really don't want to support this place but I will if you really want to." She called back and told me she saw someone scheduled me for the next Friday. It was totally her 100% on the phone when I first scheduled. She took 0 accountability. She said sorry a couple times but it just felt so ingenuous and pretty much felt like she was implying it was my fault. Even if it was, it was terrible customer service and I booked with Blue Ridge Trail Rides and they were much more polite and kind. I'm a very understanding person, but I can't deal with someone treating me like trash. Sorry!!! Good luck :))) read more

Went on a spur of the moment trail ride, thanks to my mane man! Hubs thought we (I) could use a change in scenery and a safe break from quarantine. He called Appalachian Trail Rides the morning of and scheduled a two-hour trail ride, $65 per person, less if you pay with cash according to their website. They'll take your card over the phone, but you pay after the ride. Our ride started at the barn. We were joined by another group. After thorough instructions from our guide, they paired us with horses and off we went. I was paired with Silver, who had the most gorgeous "silver" hair. He was wonderful, calm, and well trained. He seemed very familiar with the trail and almost didn't need "directions" from me on when and where to turn. Although he liked to stop and snack, he was easily redirected. My husband was paired with Belle, who was quite the character. She, too liked to snack and dig. Our guide took us up and down the wooded mountain. We had two opportunities to trot, which is completely optional. Our guide asked our group if we wanted to try and fortunately all of the group agreed to. That was fun! Silver loved to go fast and tried to pass other horses several times, but a simple pull kept him in line. The ride was peaceful and enjoyable. The guides were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend Appalachian Trail Rides! read more

Enjoyed this ride on a Tuesday earlier this month. My father and I signed up for a one hour private trail ride. Cody was our guide, he was funny, talkative and made sure we were enjoying the ride the whole time. We were over in Blue Ridge for a small vacation in between moving homes, he gave us some good advice of places to eat and animals to get for the farm we're planning on having soon. It was a very beautiful experience, the horses were sweet and the sights were beautiful. read more

My boyfriend and I went on a two hour trail ride with Bailey as our guide. He has never ridden before but he felt very comfortable and at ease the entire time. He even exclaimed, "This is fun!" (like an excited child) during the middle of the ride. My horse, Red Jack, was very leg responsive and well-gaited for his age - his trot was rougher but he was able to pace the trot to my posting, which made it a lot easier for both of us. He did pick up pace and I was able to sit the canter easily. Our ride was with a family of 5- three children and their parents. None seemed to be experienced riders but they seemed to have fun too (even though I cringed at their rein pressure and indescribable seats). Overall, we had a lot of fun and I would recommend it for anyone regardless of experience (I have very little Western experience). We will definitely choose a private ride next time we come to the area to visit! read more

Late post... our family booked a one hour horse backing ride with Appalachian Trail Rides over the Christmas break. It was Amazing! Everyone from the adults to the kids had a fantastic time. The trail was not your typical flat, boring trail that is usually the case. We went up steep hills-even through a river! Definitely recommend this company. There are lots of choices for trail rides around Blue Ridge and I'm sure they are great, but we LOVED our trail ride here! My husband and I did the 2 hour guided ride. Our guide was Danielle and she was friendly and knowledgeable. It was like riding with a friend. The ride starts from the beautiful barn and heads up into the wooded mountain area. We walked most of the time, but there were a few areas where we could go "a little faster". Towards the end we even walked in the creek. Our horses were sure footed and easy to ride. Went with my husband on a two hour group ride. Gorgeous scenery, fantastic staff, and overall wonderful experience. We were a little nervous because it's been a long time since either of us have been on a horse, but the staff was very thorough in educating us. We felt very comfortable, and our guide was wonderful. We got to ride through streams, mountains, and even got to trot a bit which was so fun! Great ride up the mountain right before the storm rolled in. The property was absolutely beautiful and the horses were very calm and easy to ride. You can tell they are very well cared for and live an easy life! Our guide Bailey, was wonderful!! She helped keep everything in line, even when my horse decided to make his own path. She was also great with the younger kids (first time riders aged 11 & 12) and made sure the instructions were clear on what to do and how to ride. This is the place to go for an amazing experience. My husband and I are not outdoor type of people. We came here to get away from home for a few days away from our children and spend time together. We rented a gorgeous cabin and decided we should "do" something. We decided on horseback riding since we weren't looking to go water rafting without the kids. Well this place was super clean, the horses were beautiful, happy and well mannered. The guide we had was amazing. It was $40 a person for an hour long ride through streams, uphill, downhill and walked through a stream for the horses to drink. It was such a great experience and worth way more than we paid!!
