40 ago, we bought our home in Watsonville that included a pool. I knew nothing about pools so I called Appi. Jon Roddick came out and solved our problem of maintenance. I soon learned from Jon and decided to take over the maintenance part. Now I am in my mid-70's and can't do the work. I called Jon Roddick at Appi who brought in his employee expert Alex Fletes who has been caring for my pool for two months. Folks, I am on well water and my pool has never looked better. After asking for the new to me unused but regularly cycled hot tub to be emptied , cleaned and balanced at the start, finally it was done on the third visit. The first two visits were short and the tub was " ready" to go both times. One time there was foam overflowing when turned on the second time same thing. Finally got emptied and filled and balanced. My family ( little kids) got in I turned the jets on and a three foot long " snake" of something ( mold, fungus goop bacteria?) shot out of a jet into the air and landing in the tub while they were in the tub causing a big panic to get out. This happened after I was billed for $750!!!! I talked to owner(? Or person in charge) and was told they did a professional thorough job and $100 was taken off my $750 bill! To me it seemed like I flushed $650 down the toilet as I was left with an unusable tub. read more

APPI evaluated my 20+ year old hot tub and replaced the pump, electric package, etc, saving me thousands of dollars. Other pool/spa consultants told me it was a "goner" and had to be replaced. The hot tub works beautifully now, Jon and his workers were quite competent and friendly, and the job was done on time! read more

Two stars because the tech's were friendly. First time tech came out to drain/clean/fill spa, he used softsoap cleanser to clean spa, it never completely stopped foaming. Spa broke and I replaced it with a new one. Since the tech never cleaned the spa during monthly visits, I decided to maintain my new spa myself. Asked for and received a final bill, then a month after the new spa was installed, I received a bill for 2 service visits during the time my old spa was drained but still in place. I called and was told the bill would be canceled. I received another copy of the bill, I will pay it to protect my credit rating, but I will never use or recommend APPI. If you use them, pay close attention to their billing. read more

The technician was friendly and good however the management team and the maintenance team was difficult to work with and kept my pool in horrible shape. No consistency around visits or performance. They never vacuumed or back flushed the filters-- even months after the fires! In store APPI is very informative and will go out of their way to help you; their over-the-counter service is second-to-none. In the field, they've been negligent, begrudging and unprofessional. Let me tell you a story. We've been having some issues with our system for several months and have home insurance - that came with the purchase of our house - so we decided to invoke that and get APPI out to diagnose and fix the problems. Over the course of this saga, I've tried contacting APPI several times in person and over the phone to see what's going on. Whenever it gets to them having to talk to the tech, all communication stops except for the one time I got a call back from the him telling me that the insurance company probably won't approve the work. I asked him to try and that I'd still pay them if the insurance company didn't agree, I just wanted the work done and it'd be nice if the insurance could pay for it. The insurance company never got correspondence, despite them making it as easy as a short email with minimal details. They've even tried contacting APPI. When the tech was here, he mentioned that he _refuses_ to work on multi-valves. He thought there might be an issue with mine so he pulled it apart. At first, I was thankful because he was doing it begrudgingly - and was making it very obvious - but after it was all apart, he tells me that I - me, not him - am going to have to fix it myself and proceeds to pack up and try to leave. The system wasn't working at 100% but it _was_ working before he showed up and he just pulled it completely out of service in the dead of summer. It took my wife and I around 5 or 10 minutes to convince him to get a seal, come back and install it. What's possibly even more impressive about this guy is that while he was here, he talked poorly about a couple of coworkers. One I believe was his boss, regarding something about recycled glass sand and another about a woman there because he thought she should have told me how to install the previous one. It's totally not her fault, it's mine, and I should have done better research. That's not the end of it! One of the core issues with my system is a tube inside the sand filter came loose, and I could possibly also have a bad lateral (I'm getting sand back into the pool). The fix for this would be to remove some sand, check the laterals, and if they're still good, replace the tube and sand that was removed. While explaining the possible problem, diagnosis process and fix, he's also implying that I'm going to be the one doing the work. I made it abundantly clear that I don't want to do this and that if the insurance company won't pay for them to do it, I will. Heck, I'd even try a DE system - that he was trying really hard to sell me on - if the laterals on the sand filter are bad! It's at this point you're probably thinking that there's something suspect that I'm not letting onto, right? Nope. I was literally trying to throw money at them in spite of the fact that their tech broke my system, talked poorly of his coworkers and tried pawning off his job on me. I even paid them for his work without question. APPI, I can empathize with the fact that your tech is probably the source of my problems, but that doesn't absolve you from the fact that there should be someone following up on his unfinished work, especially when a regular, paying customer brings it to you, in person, several times over, and the people whom I spoke with assured me that this would be resolved. I have an older SPA that had been sitting empty for about three years. When I filled it back up, I discovered it had a leak that needed to be repaired. Living on the Santa Cruz side of the hill, I found it really hard to find anybody to even come out and look at it. What is more, I was worried that, given its age, it would not be worth repairing. I even contacted the company that originally sold it to me, and they weren't interested in the business, but were happy to sell me a new one if I wanted. I contacted APPI after reading a positive review and they didn't disappoint. They came out that weekend, and to my horror, they discovered that a rodent had taken up residence in the foam and chewed through tubing and some electrical wires. I would not have blamed them if they had just said "Sorry, I think it is a lost cause", but he soldiered on through. What is better, the bill for the service was exceptionally reasonable. I was preparing myself for something around three times what he eventually charged. These guys are a good, hard working, honest bunch. read more

We have been loyal customers of APPI for years. The pool cleaner they have assigned to our services, Zack, is horrible. His lack of attention, only pouring in chemicals and not vaccuming, has turned our pool into a swamp and no one at APPI seems to think this is a problem. Now, we are told that although yesterday, Friday was his scheduled day to service he will not be here till Monday. That is 6 days after we called to get a service so that we can resume use of our pool!!! I suggest going elsewhere for pool services. Very dissatisfied with your customer service read more

Very, very bad experience with this company. Hired these guys to care for a brand new swim spa system purchased in 2015. I do not recommend them. The techs did not seem well trained to me, as they were putting too much chemical into my swim spa system, which resulted in skin rashes to me and guests when using the system after. At first I complained to the head guy, Jon Roddick, by phone. Not a very receptive guy. He had the nerve to tell me his tech has been doing this for 10 years and knows how to assess amount of chemical needed. Like I was probably imagining things! I told him to come down and test the water for himself, of course he never did. This guy will dispute any complaint you raise, and he has all the answers too. I asked him to have the techs put in much less chemical. During my 2 year maintenance period, they circulated 3 different techs on my account. And too much chemical was used and continued to be used. The neck cushions in the hot tub have chemical burns on them from it. 2 years after hiring them my seals started leaking and I began having problems many problems with the system. Well over $1,000 of repairs needed on my new swim spa system. So I researched it online and found that using too much chemical is a common cause of this problem. So I complained to this company and guess who they sent out? Same guy, Jon Roddick. And boy he had an answer for everything, which was that his company was responsible for nothing. He offered to do nothing to resolve the situation, and provided an estimate to repair all of it. After he left, he sent me an email discontinuing my service with their company and had the nerve to send me a bill in the mail! I had someone else take a look at it, a pool specialist, and they told me using too much chemical could absolutely cause the problems I was having, leaking seals. I would not recommend APPI service at all. They are not responsive, courteous, or professional. The people who clean the pools are great, but the office folks need to upgrade their professionalism. Working with the office is a hassle. Very expensive for what you get. read more

Fantastic customer service, so helpful. My boyfriend and I actually went in just to ask a few questions about a little above ground pool I have in my backyard. A had gone in years ago when I used to pick up pool supplies for my dad and had remembered how nice they were. They still are! The guy working took my questions seriously (I thought I might get a little snark for my silly pool but not at all!!) and totally solved my problem. Phil from Summit Heating and Air has managed our pool equipment for the last 25 years. Unfortunately, Phil passed away last year. So, I called APPI. The Tech seemed to know what he was doing and upon his recommendation we decided to replace our pool heater. That's where the trouble started. First I got a proposal with a one liner: replace pool heater and a price. No id of the kind or rating of pool heater, labor, install date, and removal of old heater. Just a price $3,210.94 with penciled in Propane. I wrote back, please prepare a formal invoice: Type & Rating of Heater, Labor, Tax, Materials, Install Date, and removal with my budget quote of $3,000. I got a revised detailed proposal of $3,131.00. I resent my budget of $3,000 and got a further revised proposal of $3,500! read more
