To be completely honest, I was a little hesitant at first only because we had a bad experience with daycare centers in Orange County - we relocated to Merced in Sept. 2019. But since Back to Square Fun is located at Paige's home, we felt a lot more at ease shortly after my daughter started there as it truly has a warm, safe, and inviting feel to it. At first my daughter would cry at drop off due to stranger-danger mentality. But Paige won her affection very quickly. She would send us pictures and videos of her eating, sleeping, and playing with other kids around her age. This reassured me that our little girl was in the best hands possible. On the tour, our child's teacher reviewed the curriculum and educational rationale, and it was clear that there was substantial thought to all aspects of the child's day. I started my child in the toddler room, and the best thing I can say about it, is that each day that he goes, he's excited when we pull up to campus, and every day when we pick him up, he tells us he had fun at school. We get thorough descriptions of his day, what he liked, and where he struggled. Excellent communication with parents. Snacks include local organic produce from our local CSA. Unlike non-related "daycare" facilities in the area, Merced Montessori School prepares/teaches kids at a very young age (we started our daughter at 2 or before) early critical skills for their quickly approaching elementary education. This type of instruction focuses on literary/life skills and independence (you learn by making mistakes safety) rather than simply putting them into a group room and monitoring the chaos. Each morning children are assigned "jobs" and are taught to accomplish literary and physical tasks aimed at building cognitive and mechanical skills. They must keep track of their lunch, jackets, clothes etc., and have responsibilities from the moment they arrive. Free time/Play time occurs throughout the day and from what I have seen creates an environment to practice the social skills they have learned. "The First 5 Years" are unquestionably the most important years in our children's lives and for this reason we have entrusted Merced Montessori School with our daughters care and education during this formative time.... My son has been in the care of Gilda and her daughter since he was three months old. He's now a little over a year old and I know that when I'm at work my son is getting the utmost care and attention.
