The Chapel Hill Golf Course opened in 1996 on the site of the former Mount Vernon Bible College. The original Chapel that once served as a place of worship now serves as a rather unique clubhouse. The clubhouse offers typical golf course fare - hot dogs, chips, pop, beer, etc. Rates are generally affordable. We generally try to "walk" most courses but this is one course where we usually rent carts. This course has a lot of ups and downs that not only makes the course challenging to play but it also makes for a long and challenging walk. If you're playing Chapel Hill for the 1st time, I'd strongly recommend using a cart. Then you can make your own decision on your next round. Chapel Hill was in great condition this season and the tees, greens and fairways were all in generally good condition. The last time we played there this season was in November and the course was wet but was still green and well-groomed. This course is off the beaten path for us (we all live in suburbs on the north side of Columbus) but it's pretty reasonably priced and is worth the drive. The staff in the clubhouse and the starter (one of the few courses we play that still has a starter) are all great.

The slope from the whites I believe is posted maybe 117 but I feel it should be more like 125. The front nine while not all that long it is very tough especially once you get on the greens. You have to stay below the hole on the greens. The 4 or 5 flat holes on the back are somewhat a relief until you get on the green. This is a truly challenge course. The price is more than my golfnow budget typically allows but then this is not your average golf course as well. A true delight. The meal afterwards was delicious; I had the chicken wrap and fries, an unexpected delicious combo. Very nice experience..

The golf course staff was extremely friendly and helpful in guiding me to make the best selection. And, this is a biggie, they actually have sand in their sand traps. A lot of courses aren't maintaining their sand traps anymore but the ones at Echo Springs were in really good shape. I had forgotten how hard it is to hit out of the sand. Beautiful links style course. Challenging without being too difficult to have a good time.

We don't have many options down in Southeast Ohio and will travel each day to good 18 hole courses. Over the last 40 years we have developed a "list of the usual suspects" but leave room to rotate new options based on recommendations or scrambles our guys have played in. Last summer Crown Hill was added and I can say it has replaced another of our regular courses. It's a nice and fair layout that makes you think about your choices but leaves room to scramble for a saved par or bogie. The staff was friendly and the course in great shape. We will be back this summer!
