This is listed as lessons for kids, but after 5 days all that was seemingly accomplished was daily golf-ball-trading by the kids. While they experienced the driving range, putting green and the chipping area, there was no teaching of techniques or basic golf etiquette. I know rain has been minimal but this was pretty easily the worst golf course I have ever played. 65 dollars for a round, I cannot believe they charge full price for this. Construction everywhere. My family loves the food here . We went for Mother's Day to play golf . We ordered the best beef quesadillas we ever had . My uncle like the screwdriver . I wouldn't classify myself as a golfer. Top golf, going to the driving range, and scrambles are about all I do. I LOVE the scrambles at applewood, they are so much fun! This last one they rearranged the course, we played 12 holes and it was such a fun time. The drinks are reasonable, the hot dogs are delicious, everyone working there is friendly and awesome. I am new to golf and my friend is pretty experienced and we both love this course! I've been coming here about once every two weeks to the driving range and chipping green. I intend on playing 18 or nine holes eventually. Applewood golf course has beautiful scenery, the facilities and the greens are maintained really really well. The staff that work there are laid-back and really nice. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and you can come here to relax after a long day at work or be rowdy with your friends. The chipping green is free and the driving range is about eight dollars for a large bucket. I know there are a lot of choices for golf courses in Denver but I would definitely recommend this one. read more

Unfortunately each of the last times I have been to this course the people behind the desk in the pro shop have treated me very poorly. It seems as if the customer is not the priority. I do understand pro shops have to deal with very rude customers but I do my best to be polite and understanding, however, it still seems as though the people behind the desk have little respect back. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. The rudest staff I have ever encountered. We had a tee time for 11:09am. Our foursome was on the tee teeing off between 11:08 - 11-:12am and the starter was being very rude and obnoxious. He said "tee time is tee time not show up time" which makes NO sense because we were on the tee box BEFORE our tee time. Literally such terrible staff. Stay away at all costs. There's tons of courses for same money and it's a completely different and better experience elsewhere. I play golf almost every week multiple times at all the courses around Denver and the outskirts. This is the only place I will NEVER play again. read more

Overpriced for the quality of the course. I'm not sure why they even have Marshalls, there was a group of 8 people playing together slowing everything waaaaaay down. It took us 3 hours and 20 minutes to play the front 9. We even called the clubhouse to see if they could do something, but nothing changed. Do not book a reservation for a party venue here. While the contract tells you that you have until there are 180 days to your event to cancel, the contract is incredibly vague about its fees for such cancellations. I had to reach out to the Better Business Bureau and state agencies to get some resolution for this contract. Not to mention correspondence once you pay the venue deposit is spotty. Stick with larger more reputable places, you will get a likely better experience. read more

Just to clear up some false statements and misinformation in some of these reviews. I play here a couple/three times a week, and I have seen some issues, yes, but they are not the norm I've seen in the past three years I've been playing here. Average rounds are 4:20. some longer, some much shorter, but it's a beginner/older type course and you have to learn sometime. No, they don't send people out in 5 minuet intervals. Tee times are 9 minutes apart. If there were a long frost delay, times might be squeezed to 8 minutes. No they don't close down well before sunset. On special occasions when the driving range has to be hand picked, it will close 1/2 early. The course is open sun up to sun down, meaning when the sun sets, pick up your ball and come in. The course isn't open in the dark. Some tee boxes were subpar, a couple very crowned, but those 6 tee boxed were rebuilt in 2022, with more to be rebuilt in 2023. The irrigation pump broke and the replacement failed at the beginning of 2022, but that was temporary. The course feeds the Coors water supply, so no chemicals are allowed. I agree the cart paths are getting pretty bad in spots. Yes, if you are acting like a drunk teenager, you will be asked (asked, not checked) if you have outside alcohol. (it's a liquor license thing, not just Applewood.) Yes, you might have a slow group like anywhere. Call the pro-shop and the new marshals WILL take care of it. There are idiots everywhere, and slow golfers everywhere, and people who nitpick everything they can to feel superior everywhere. Don't believe everything you see on a review from someone's single experience. If you are expecting a world caliber PGA major course, this isn't it. so don't rate it against one. It's a little slower than some, grass is mostly ok for a natural, no chemical course, and many, many people enjoy playing daily on this fine little course. read more

I played 9 holes at a twilight rate walking ($20). Looking at the scorecard, I understood what I was paying for and what kind of experience the course should deliver. Applewood is a short and easy course. The slope rating from the tips is sub 120, and the price is fair. On paper this should be a good course for beginners, or a player of any caliber to get out and play a relaxing, ego-boosting round. On paper, this should be the kind of course that we've all played before, a "get what you pay for"kind of track that makes you fall in love with the game. Unfortunately, that is not the experience Applewood delivers. Let's start with the scheduling - they send groups out in ~5 minute increments. This is aggressive, and the course backed up on us even though it was far from busy and we were in the twilight hours. Maintenance - this course is in nearly unplayable shape. The tee boxes are sloped and at least 50% sand. The worse tee box (6th tee) was about 90% sand. The fairways are baked out and seemingly unirrigated. At any other course of any caliber at least 60% of Applewood's "fairways" would be roped off as a drop zone for ground under repair. Applewood can't do this because the issue is so pervasive. There were many fairways that I would deem almost wholly unplayable. The greens were actually not in terrible shape, but pocked with unrepaired pitch marks. I can't levy the blame 100% for this on course management, but it is an issue nonetheless. Why am I writing this review? I think it's because I'm a bit confused. Applewood has a gorgeous location. It's in a good area. The design and play of the course would draw me back if it was maintained. I am a golfer who will play just about any course, from basic munis and par 3s to championship level courses. I actively play with beginners to introduce them to the game, so I wish Applewood was a venue to which I could return, but I won't. Bottom line - I don't really know who the market for this course is. If you're looking for a friendly course to cut your teeth or play a relaxing round, I can give you the name of about 10 courses within 30 minutes of Applewood that are actually maintained, and in parity with Applewood's difficulty level and price. You can't learn to play golf here in its current state. It's a shame. I'm not sure if this course's management is suffering from resource or financial issues, or simply apathy, but it could be so much better. Save your money. If you want an affordable round and a 10x better experience, play Lake Arbor, Willis Case, Indian Tree, West Woods, etc. The list goes on. read more

This was by far my worst golfing experience do to how rude the employees were. While I was in the bathroom a worker approached my friend asking her to search my backpack. She refused stating that the backpack didn't belong to her and she didn't feel comfortable allowing permission for that. When I returned from the bathroom I also refused him searching my backpack. He continued to harass us and yell that we were liars. All the while standing about 3 feet away maskless. My friend and I asked him to please put his mask on which he ignored. The interaction felt very targeting toward us being women in a male dominated setting. All the while there were carts around us with blatant coolers. This man ruined our of golf and I will not be returning to this course. Applewood please hire people who can do their job while maintaining peoples dignity. read more

I just go for the driving range cause it's cheaper than any other local courses. Never played it so I can't speak on that behalf. But the staff in the pro shop is very hospitable and friendly so that says something. read more

Golfing is bad for you and is the major cause of stress related illness. Ok, hopefully that scared the rookies off. Applewood is a remarkably rookie friendly course. By that, I mean that it is forgiving. I find it tough to shoot over 80 here. I am so good. So, seriously, it is a great value, and a tough course to get into too much trouble on. This course has the worse tee boxes in the state of Colorado. They are so crowned you either have the ball above your feet or below. The fairways have sunken areas where irrigation lines have been laid. It's obvious whoever owns/manages the course has no experience in maintaining a quality course. Perfect, 5 star rating for multiple, company annual golf tournament. Our 5th annual golf tournament was in 2015 and the tournament was ran so well, we have been back every year and already have our 10th annual tournament, 2020 tournament locked in. Rob and Ashley make this 144 golfer event look so easy. The follow up before, during and after the tournament is impeccable. Applewood has been our new go to golf course. Although the conditions started out rough, we have seen improvements every week we have gone. They are currently re doing many of the tee boxes. We love the staff and the lessons have been great. Everyone from the pro shop to the bar to the maintenance crew are all great! Will definitely be getting a twilight membership next year. read more

Why does Applewood ("Crapplewood") get such a bad rap in the golfing community? Is it because you can usually get a tee time and get right on, perhaps it's because they'll let you play "9" on the weekends, or is it the fact renting a pull cart is cheaper than their Bloody Mary? I hope so, that way all you other weekend hackers, who's expectations far outweigh your abilities, will go jam up some other course. Highlights: Our 4th slept in (err, never showed, got up or never found his way home), which means I only had to buy 3 Red Beers (Bonus)! Rained like crazy...for only thirty seconds...just long enough for me to open my umbrella and realize it was now a wasp mobile home. (No stings, Bonus #2, shaken out umbrella, wasp free, Bonus #2a.). Watched an incredible lightning show, like we had front row seats. (Never got struck and had the last three holes all to ourselves, Bonus #3). Never lost a ball, although I did tee off with a Nike and hit a Dunlop (place any brand here) on my second shot (a few times...). Golf is an honest man's game, had to come clean. Great breathtaking views throughout the course. If you stay in the fairway, there's nothing too terribly challenging. But, the wild native stuff bordering the fairways will suck up a ball faster than waist deep ice water. read more

Not a fan of this course at all. Not kept in good condition, very boring and monotone layout, and the amenities here are about on par with a tipped over port-o-john in Juarez. Stacked tee-times mean you'll be waiting ALOT on this course...pace of play is slow and the Marshalls are utterly useless. The only good thing here is the price, but even that isn't enough to bring me back. I suppose it would be a good beginner course, short holes, pretty straightforward, but just play one of the Denver Muni's instead. read more

Another one of Press Maxwell's designs, this one opened in 1961. Mr. Maxwell has designed several courses in Colorado. I really enjoyed the course, there is a little up and down in the terrain and some water in play. The greens are small enough to present a challenge and some slope to many of them which makes putting also a challenge. For this time of year (early April) the course is in good condition, fairways have enough grass to support a ball and provide a consistent surface. Although the course is rather short, 5992 yards from the back tees with a par 71, it is fun and enjoyable for all skill levels. For the big hitters, the par 5's are reachable in 2, so you can have those Eagle putt chances. Good course for walking, practice facilities are good with a large range, nice practice green, clubhouse is typical ranch style. Green fees are very reasonable with plenty of discounts for seniors, Denver Golf, and a Players Club that allows for discounted play. All in all an enjoyable day and a course I will go back to. read more

Played here recently with a friend and both of us liked the experience along with the price. Not a long corse, but course requires keeping the ball in the fairway. Had no real issues with pace of play on a Friday afternoon when it was pretty busy. Would actually give it closer to 4 stars than three. Would go back in a heart beat if I lived in Denver. read more

I went golfing at Applewood golf course yesterday for the first time. It's hard to give an accurate year-round review, but I'll update it when I return next spring and summer. My friends and I usually golf at a few other local golf courses, but we weren't able to get a tee time elsewhere before the Broncos game yesterday. So we decided to try out Applewood golf course. We were really happy with the experience. The prices were really reasonable and a bucket of balls for the range (we had to warm up since we were golfing in November lol) were the cheapest in town. All of the staff was friendly and we didn't have to wait at all- we teed off at exactly our tee time. It's hard to judge the upkeep of the course on a year-round perspective. But considering it was November it was really nice. The grass and greens were well maintained, and the leaves must have been raked pretty consistently because there weren't too many to lose your ball in. It's not a super difficult course, so I would recommend it to beginners. I'm really happy with my experience there! read more
