I've been going to Larson's for 10 years to buy my family's ski equipment and get annual rentals for my kids because I like that they're family owned and local (even if the prices aren't always the best). However, each time I visit, give them a few hundred bucks, and leave the store, I'll sit in my car and reflect at how bad the staff's attitude is and how poorly I was treated after showing them nothing but kindness and respect. I've always ignored it, but last week after leaving the store, my kid asked me "daddy why were they in such a bad mood?" and I responded "I don't know; they always are". That interaction with my kid made me angry enough to finally write this review. Larson's, I get that the pre-season ski rush is busy, and I get that rich ski people probably routinely treat you poorly, but you need to treat customers better. Even the staff at Epic Mountain Gear are kind to their customers, and they work for VAIL; let that sink in. This culture needs to change and it starts from the top (John Marriott, I'm looking at you). Do better. read more

This place has the best customer service around. Even if the store is packed, an associate will spend a lot of time with you. As a newer skier I have been a handful of times to the store and never once felt ashamed of being uneducated on the gear I needed. These guys will steer you in the right direction! Rental Packages: If you are renting gear for the entire season, I believe I paid $129 (or $149) for the ski, poles and boot package. Plus, if you plan on keeping them for next season, all u have to do is email then and they will charge your credit card on file so super easy. read more

Everyone in here is so incredibly helpful. I went in for a new toe and heel replacement for my ski boot, although they didn't have it, the girl helped me order new ones online since another shop didn't have them either. They fit perfectly. A week later went in because one of the screws had a bolt stuck in it and I couldn't get it out, they took it out and even put the new heel on for me. Highly recommend this place they are so nice and helpful! read more

I purchased expensive boots but was having a lot of pain even though they were heat molded and I had a lot of ride time in them. I called Larson's after I landed in Denver and they told me to get there first thing in the morning when they opened without needing some crazy expensive appointment. After looking around, I was seeing the average price of custom insoles being over $150 and with a $400 boot, I felt that was absolutely fair in lieu of replacing a whole boot just to have the same problems. I worked with two employees, although I can not remember the name of the younger gentleman I worked with, I do remember Nick. We had some really great conversation about disabled veterans and his passion for helping adaptive riders and it was amazing. I was not upsold, I was not told to buy a new boot, we adjusted what I had and I was out the door for under $50. I could not ask for a better experience and they were super awesome with my service dog. I would recommend them to anybody that wants to skip a large commercial shop and get that small hometown feel with employees that actually care. read more

First let me start with I really like supporting local businesses especially during this troubling time of the pandemic and labor shortage. I recently rented a pair of skis for a first time skier that we had visiting us. When we showed up the line out the door for the building was crazy long and wrapped around the building. That in my opinion is To Be Expected; it's winter time here in Colorado and we just had a very large storm cycle. When we were assisted it was clear that the staff was really stressed and tired, the young lady (might be one of the owners daughters as I've seen her in the store frequently and she almost always had a ski company branded t-shirt on) that assisted us really could have been a little nicer given right out of the gate we shared this was a first time skier and he hasn't EVER put his foot into a ski boot. She was extremely short and snappy, when the young man asked for some help understanding how to get his foot in to the boot and buckled. We made it though that process and at the end I was VERY specific to say thank you and let her know that we appreciated her help even though they were swamped. That positive comment fell on deaf ears. Fast forward a day later when I returned the gear first thing in the AM, no line nothing crazy. I walked in with the gear was greeted by another staff person who was friendly and asked if we enjoyed our selves. A+ and simply the only reason this review isn't 1 star. However, things again turned down when I asked about two pairs of skis I'd like to get a full tune on, before the girl working with me even had time to respond the same young lady over heard and snapped we're booked out until the 16th. I then said, ok sorry I'm not sure what today is what day of the week is that? Again before the girl who was directly helping me had a moment to respond. It's SUNDAY! I simply just said thank you and walked out. Drove over to Golden to Powder7 which is a little farther for me but was treated with respect and positive attitude, and a 72 hour full ski tune turn around. Look if you want to make it as an independent I get you won't always have the best price, but you have to support the people bringing you business with a little bit of positivity. As for the other comments, even with current spikes in pandemic numbers, none of the staff have masks on and there is NO limits on who can come into the shop. Really disappointed as I've been coming into this store for 12+ years and honestly have very little desire to continue and just keep driving to Golden at this point. Really said to see the customer service take such a hit, you are truly rolling the dice when you enter the door here, if you get one of the more senior members of the staff you more than likely will have a good experience. Heaven forbid you get the young lady that I had the chance to work with (even when I wasn't). read more

You better be a mechanically-inclined audacious snow sport fanatic to rent from here. Sure, they're cheap but you get what you pay for. Multiple times the boots snapped out of the skis while making turns down the mountain, which should have been my portentous indicator to get them swapped. One tenebrous day, at Copper, the eldritch boots snapped out of the skis as I made a sharp left. Per usual. While a cadre of skiers and boarders buzzed around me, I was struggling to re-snap in the boot. I shuffled carefully down the hill. On my way slipping down the mountain, I fell into an ankle-deep booby trap of snow. I managed to escape from the confines and get to a catwalk juncture. Ski patrol observed my challenge and tried to assist. They were just as abhored by the ski quality as I was. With 5 people failing to manipulate the boots into the skis, they finally advised me to not utilize the skis, as it would pose a significant danger. Only about 1 minute down the mountain, I had to enter the Sled of Shame. With my fate in the hands of a teenage ski patrol, I lost all dignity sitting behind him in the sleigh. Snow suffusing over my face and into my jacket, I rode down the perilous mountain in a recumbent position. Several employees attempted to fix the binding to no avail. So, I relocated to a terraform environment inside the overpriced food court and waited until the rest of my group was done for the day. Now, I await, wasting away my Friday while listening to Fortunate Son and consuming $8 fries with tepid ranch. read more

Worst boot fitting ever, and now we're stuck with boots that don't fit and are too soft. My wife has issues with ski boots, as she has a titanium rod in one leg due to a skiing accident. Another shop in town recommended a boot for my wife, however since they didn't carry the boot the other store recommended we try Larson's, as they stock the boot. We told the fitter at Larson's why we were there, my wife's issues, and which boot we were recommended to try. The Larson's fitter said she may have other solutions, and fitted my wife in a different, softer boot, that was too big for her. The fitter told my wife to ski with the new boots and, if she had problems, to come back because they could fix any issues she may have with the boots. With boots too loose and too soft, after a horrible morning of skiing we returned to Larson's. The original fitter wasn't in. When my wife explained the issues she was having with the new boots, the male fitter on duty said my wife must have requested comfortable boots over performance, and you have to tighten your boots even if your fingers get cold. We told him which boots we came for, and that she was persuaded to purchase the other boot. The fitter was condescending, saying you can't make a loose boot tighter and you can't return a used boot. However when he measured my wife's foot he said the boot they sold her was too big for her foot, he would never have sold her a boot that size, and replaced it with the same boot, one size smaller. The same boot, smaller now, but just as soft. After a week of skiing in Utah, this pair of boots packed out dramatically, is too big, and too soft for my wife's skiing ability. $700 wasted. Just because you can sell ski boots, it doesn't mean you can fit them properly. A poor experience with two of the "fitters" here speaks volumes about the poor quality of boot fitting at Larson's. They should stick to their sweet spot - ski rentals - and leave boot fitting to the pros. Poor fitted boots are dangerous (and expensive). Larson's is endangering skiers. Go elsewhere and be safe. read more

This place is awesome, we did not get the support or service that we wanted from the big box ski store near our house. We drove all the way to Larson's even though it was a 15 minute drive. The customer service was wonderful, they really helped us out with our Bindings and skis and getting them all ready for us, highly recommend this business! read more

Went to Larson's to get season rentals. They have a $279 package for new skis / new boots, which is pretty cool. However when they realized they didn't have a 180 length in new skis, I had to resort to a used ski, no big deal, they were in good shape! So I get to the register and the new/used package has gone up to $400! When I asked why, particularly since I had been fine with the used skis, the lady (who was very nice otherwise) had no explanation - it's just how our packages work... So I'd just say be careful if you go here. Definitely felt like a bait and switch! Happy skiing... read more

I went in thinking I needed to rent new boots because the ones I currently own were hurting my feet. The staff is the best part about this place - they're super knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly chill. Even when the place is stir crazy, they keep their cool and take their time to explain things about the gear. They don't show any impatience with trying on different gear. This is the cheapest rentals I've been able to find in Colorado. I always take visitors here and have been renting seasonally from them for the past 3 years since I'm a beginner and don't really know what I'm doing/what I want. They're great about switching out boards and boots for a season rental and they do tune ups and waxing for free on their rentals. They even offer pants, jacket, and helmets for rent. Parking lot is easy, they often have a sale going on. Location is on the way to and from the mountains. What a perfect business. read more

Visited here for the first time to drop off my skis to get tuned. They were busy but the staff seemed efficient and friendly. They also offered to help make one of my boots more comfortable which was appreciative. When I picked up my skis and boot, I received the same great friendly service. I'm somewhat new to skiing (was a snowboarder for many years) and a nice gentleman gave me some great advice after we started taking about the fit of my boots (purchased elsewhere). I was told that this is what is wrong with my generation (I'm in my early 40's and have a good job. No clue?). I then asked if he was the owner and he said he was! I could not believe my ears.
