STAY AWAY! I keep giving this business the benefit of the doubt - but its gotten worse and worse. First - they re-use cottonballs to soak off gel/dip on your nails. Second - IF they let you soak (vs. using a reused cottonball) in a bowl of acetone, they dump the liquid back into the acetone bottle (to use again)! This last visit was the final straw - the man doing my nails pulled out a pair of scissors and proceeded to dig each of his toenails out with them, then went back to doing my manicure with NO gloves. I couldn't wash my hands fast enough. AVOID!!!!! read more

These guys are one of the only salons in the county. That is why they get any service. I last went in June 2023. They refused to give a girl service because they said she was mean last time, so that girl got so mad and the police were called. I was genuinely scared. Then now in Jan 2025 again they have a fight with a girl who said her pedicure from a few days ago was messed up. Again I was scared. How could this happen the last 2 times I go, with over a year in between! The nail tech agreed to do the girls pedicure after she finished with me but she was nervous and rushed and she cut me all over with the drill. Worst dip I've ever had. Went in for a new set of gel nails, the lady told me she could make my old set work. She didn't understand anything I asked for, and my nails didn't turn out the way I wanted them to look at all. They are thick and clumpy and uneven. She didn't shave down my natural nails from the fill-in (main reason why I wanted a new set). When I mentioned it to her she ignored me and said I was done, then charged me new set price. Will definitely not go back and will not recommend to anyone. read more

This was clearly a mistake getting my my hand and feeds done. The guy was nice and the salon is nice. How ever i was cut several times during the manicure. He knew he cut me to. He used nail polish remover and proceed to look at my face to see if I was going to react to the BURNING PAIN he knew he would cause by doing this. I didn't say anything but I will never go back. First and foremost, it's apparent that all of these 5 star ratings are automated and/or posted by the staff of April's nails. I have used this location twice. Both times I've dealt with aggressive employees. I had gotten my a gel/acrylic manicure at another shop. I came to April's for a fill in & cut down and had to convince the tech to fill in my nails as she said the gel/acrylic was different from what they had and they couldn't do anything with it. After back and forth she filled my nails in. This was the first red flag. I should've left when she gave me such a hard time. I heard the staff say they had an appointment for a pedicure coming in. A woman came in for her appointment and was seated and they proceeded to give her a pedicure without lining the tub! Ew! A black gentleman came in and asked for a pedicure. They turned him away. About 3 mins later a white women came in and asked for a pedicure. When asked if she had an appointment she told then she did not and was immediately taken in and served. I was appalled. I asked my tech why that man was turned away, she said they had appointments and the male tech that was available didn't like giving a pedicure to men... sexist and racist? I took her word for their incoming appointment but I feel guilty for not walking out at that exact moment. I care for a little baby and my nails started to lift, I couldn't get into any shops in town so I went back about 2 weeks later to get my nails removed. I asked for them to be soaked off. The male tech that served me did start by soaking my nails but then proceeded to drill/file the rest of the acrylic off. He sanded my natural nails paper thin. When I pulled away from the heat that caused intense pain, he laughed and says "it's hot" he continued to hurt me and anytime I said "ow" or pulled away he laughed! Because my nails were so thin I told him I no longer wanted a new set. He began to become very aggressive and have a negative attitude. He then started to speak in his language but I kept hearing "full set" which made me feel like he was complaining about me. He called another employee over, while still speaking in his language and when she came over she started looking down at me and my nails which confirmed in my mind, that he was indeed talking about me. Which is fine, complain and talk all you want but at least do decent work. My natural nails are now paper thin and hurt from all the shaving down he did. I asked for a clear coat and left. So yes, he listened to what I wanted but didn't seem happy or professional about doing so. The drive into town is worth it to avoid such a hostile, unsanitary environment. read more

If I could give a zero, I would. Look what happened getting eyebrows done. The wax was too hot and it took off skin. So the owner was looking around in a drawer and found this old nasty tube of ointment but I would not allow him to apply it. Come to find out it was the massage therapist doing eyebrows. What the @&$#! No one ever said sorry and the owner rushed us out like WE did something wrong. Was charged $29 for a fill in an tips are mandatory if you pay with credit card. Update: I see I'm not alone with bad service. The only reason they are still open is because so many don't want to drive to Charlottesville. Take a look at my attached photos. I was greeted by a nice young lady when I entered. I picked out my color and was taken to my chair. My nail tech was also very friendly. He was gentle and did a great job! The guy doing my nails didn't do lotion, cuticle cream, massage, nothing and still charged me the full price of a manicure. They were completely chipped off by Sunday!! So disappointed. Three of us came in for pedicures. All sat right away to soak... cool. One gentleman started on 1 pedicure a few minutes after we sat but the other two weren't started for another 10 minutes. Not a big deal but a heads up would've been nice. We asked for the "spa pedicures" which advertise for an "extra 10 minutes".... WRONG! The massage was 4 minutes total and the exfoliation was less than a minute. The pedicure itself was a joke. No nail buffing, no filing, and no hot towels despite the description. This place is definitely an in-and-out type "salon" and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for quality nail service. read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. I got dip powder. The guy hurt my fingers several times when prepping them due to rushing and not paying attention. The shape of the powder looks like it's been dipped in mud and not evened out. It doesn't cover my whole nails and it's all over my skin which they tried to scrape off with their fingernails then gave up. This was the worst experience I've ever had a nail salon, both in service and quality of work. I was there two days ago, I had an appointment with 2 other ladies to get our nails done for a wedding, and we had an appointment. We weren't even seen for 15 minutes, and it took almost 20 for me to be seen. When I sat down I asked for the basic manicure. First-the man doing my nails was incredibly rushed and cut me twice while cutting my cuticles, and kept switching off between me and another client. He asked twice what I wanted and I repeated I wanted the basic manicure, and he started talking about a new top coat they had that was really shiny and stopped chipping, and I said I that was fine IF it was included in the basic manicure. After a pretty terrible manicure I went up front to pay and the price was a 3rd higher than expected and I said-no, I got the basic manicure, and they argued with me saying it was higher because he used a shellac top coat, after I had specified THREE TIMES, I only wanted the basic manicure. I would have argued more if it wasn't a wedding party and I didn't want the others to be unhappy. And almost the worst part, was that after all that, within hours my right thumb nail was smeared and dented, and by the end of the night almost off of the polish had peeled off. And now only two days later every single other nail is chipping. Again, it was a terrible experience, and it is the worst quality of manicure I've ever gotten. read more

Me and my daughters went there for my daughters wedding. Took forever, I had my feet in water close to a hr when a RUDE technician came over and did nothing but make me feel horrible. She kept saying how gross my feet were and nvr talked and insulted me. I was so appalled I didn't know what to say but kept my mouth shut because my daughter was getting hers done for her big day. My mom and I had mani-pedis here, and our experiences differed greatly based on the technicians providing our services. My mom's technician was Regina, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. She spent a lot of time with my mom and really did a nice job on her nails. I, on the other hand, had two separate technicians, the first of whom shorted me by 10-15 minutes on the sloppy pedi she gave me. The mani was okay, except for the fact that not enough coats of color were applied. The worst part, though? The first tech who worked with me asked me to walk BAREFOOT across a floor that obviously needed to be swept in order to get from the pedi chair to the mani counter. She didn't offer me the disposable flip-flops, which to me are a must for hygiene. I was disappointed with my service, but really pleased with my mom's. In short: this place has potential, but be careful which technician you get. Ask for Regina, and don't be afraid to demand the sanitary flip-flops... or the full amount of time you're paying for. read more
