After walking around the park and checking out the museum area, it was time for some food and a pint. Stopped in here for a Guinness and a bite. Ended up grabbing a sandwich, which was served on baguette. I got a Dutch cheese and mustard sandwich and friend took a goat cheese sandwich. You don't get fries or anything on the side, you need to order those separate. They also have breakfast all day, which was cool. I thought about it, but didn't make sense with a beer. Service was slow, but to be fair there were only 3 folks working and it was getting progressively busier between 13:00 to 15:00. We stopped here on our way to the centre for a quick snack. The service was extremely fast and the views of the canals outside made for a perfect place to people-watch and enjoy the weather. The food and drink menu was pretty limited. But, this was one of the first spots that offered Pepsi! We tried the croquettes which were just okay. Fun Irish pub, good beer and good food. Service can be erratic but that seems normal for Amsterdam. My friends and I were there for a good 3 hours, we drank lots of beer but the food was super slow or missing on coming. Stopped here for lunch and had a pint of the Irish red beer with a cheese burger. Food and drink were good and the location was great for people watching. It was very crowded and the waitstaff did take awhile to get around to us. As well they make you pay your bill before you get the food which I thought was different. typical tourist bar. nothing special. tea was €3,50 for a teabag. expect minimum and a not so interested attitude from the staff. they are used to one visit tourists. no charm or Irish crak. They got the location just next to Hard Rock Cafe so I guess they feel that they don't have to do anything else than that. My friend and I sat at the bar and were waiting to be served while other people were trying to be served as well and we watched the servers make jokes about not seeing anyone. I got a guinness (damn good pour I can admit) and the soup of the day (broccoli cheddar) and fries. The soup was no exaggeration the worst broccoli soup I've ever had. Tasted like water and broccoli. The fries tasted like they had been left under a heater for hours and had no seasoning. It's like the place lacked not only soul and service, but also salt. At this point we just wanted to leave and we were trying to grab the server's attention and watched some servers act oddly around the cash register looking over their shoulder all suspicious and what not. We asked them to remove the food from our bill because it was not edible and surprise surprise they said they couldn't. Can't afford proper service when your employees are stealing from you! Went there twice for some coffee. The coffee is fine but the service is poor. Took a lot of effort to get someone to wait our table on both occasions. The second time the waiter was close to being rude. Also, there was glass right outside the outside terrace and the staff didn't bother to clean/remove for the last two days. Loved eating here by the water, great ambience and entrees, we got the fish and chips and salmon fillet, the salmon was by far the best. 4 stars instead of five because the fries were very bland, they don't make cocktails and very smoky on the outside patio. Awesome place to grab some food and drink beer. This place was close to my hotel when I stayed in Amsterdam and it was a nice spot after a long day of walking to relax and people watch. It's also not pricey and the staff is quick to serve you. Their chicken skewers with the peanut sauce were really good, this became my favorite go to dish in Amsterdam. Aran Pub is in a great location, we stopped in here just wanting to grab a quick drink, but ended up staying a little longer. The view is great, you can look out over the canal. Everything is averaged price, the atmosphere is pretty typical pub atmosphere, perfect for what we were looking for today. This bar is in a good location by a canal, close to the casino. We weren't looking for something to eat, only drinks and decided to call in here as it wasn't far from our hotel. We sat inside though there was seating available outside as well. As with most Irish bars, there was a very lively atmosphere and the bar staff were quick and efficient. Worst place ever. We were just there. Brought out the wrong beer. Overcharged us on the wrong beer. Was completely rude when we asked them for the correct beer. Asked for the ticket and it took them 20 minutes. No apology for forgetting about our ticket or bringing out the wrong beer. Aran is one of my favorite places to grab a pint when I am in Amsterdam. It has a traditional pub vibe but is located right on the canal in one of the busiest and safest areas of Amsterdam. They have a big outdoor covered seating area where you can eat and drink while watching the canal boats drift by. I could easily lose track of time and spend all day here for this very reason. They also offer a very good selection of pub style food (I recommend the burger!). Service is always excellent and the servers are very friendly and knowledgable about the city. This place doesn't even need a review. It's located in such a central area, that people are bound to stop by to watch parts of a soccer game, grab a beer, and just chat. We sat here, and time just FLEW by...it could have been about 4 hours. The first time we went for drinks only, and the second time we went was to eat breakfast. The service is very quick and the crowd is just excited to be there. The bartender was nice enough to charge my iphone for me. The only thing I didnt care for? Having to pay 50P to use the loo. Quite a standard pub really. The central location makes for a convenient meeting point or rest stop and you could do worse than to come here. The beer choice is good, food is served all day, sports (mostly football) is often shown on their many TVs and they have a nice view over a canal - but where doesn't round here? I've visited Amsterdam 4 times now, and this pub is by far the most welcoming place I've visited. The breakfast is amazing and the staff are so happy, great table service. We've been here before but haven't written a review, but after our last visit the rating went down a little. We did the misstake to visit them on Kings-day. First we tried to order a club-sandwich and got the rude response from the waitress that "we don't serve that", and then she just stood there staring at us, we then ask, "well what do you serve?", and she responded "Anything else". Well ok, then you don't need our money, so we decided to just get a drink instead. When we where going to pay I asked if she pinned, she said no.... I know that they pin, we have been there before... I asked "why?" and she said, "its kings day".... After I paid, cash, and we've drank our beers, I went to bring the glasses back to the bar (statie-geld due to kings-day, 1€ / glass), I waited at the bar to get the money back, I saw how they pinned people at the bar.
