This place is very cozy and has a casual atmosphere with a local vibe. Not your typical tourist trap. They have a decent selection of beer, wine and cocktails, and a somewhat limited menu as far as options, but sometimes less is more. It's nice to see so many new / recent Yelp reviews about this cafe and in general in Amsterdam lately. During the pandemic, there were very few of us here. It's good to have you all back. With that said, this is a classic brown bar with food on The Prinsengracht in Jordaan. It's near the Westerkerk which happens to be next to the Anne Frans museum. There is an outdoor area in nicer weather. Tip your server since they have to dodge cyclist and cars on the road to get to your table. I feel it's a bit touristy but better than most. The food is good and I'd eat or drink here. The prices are a bit more but the service is good and location is excellent. read more

Cafe was cute and quaint. The two eggs with mushroom, bacon and cheese was quite a savory treat that was unexpectedly delicious. Perhaps it was the cheese - but I never though a simple egg breakfast could be so good. The perfect balance of salty. The dog was a customer's pet and added to the overall neighborhood-laid back vibe. Service was a bit slow and needing gentle reminding. Nice place to grab a beer if you are in the area around Anne Frank Museum. Expect the prices to be on the higher side given its touristy location. Cozy cafe and bar with friendly staff and good views! Popped in for a quick cafe while I was in the city for work and this place was definitely worth stopping in. I ordered a latte macchiato and sat outside. Even though it was a little chilly outside, the coffee and views were definitely worth it. Cafe de Prins gives all the feels of a neighborhood bar. We enjoyed it so much we went back twice. They are located right by the Anne Frank museum and next to a canal. There is seating inside and also plenty of outdoor seating. It's a great spot to grab a drink and people watch. They have a beer selection and also liquor available. The menu also has plenty of good finds. We had their fries, cheeseburger, caesar salad, cheese sticks and samosas. Everything really did taste great. The service was wonderful as well. I always make a point of hitting this increadibly awesome cafe when ever I am in the great city of Amsterdam. Like an old friend, this place hardly changes and is always a comfort to greet. This laid back brown cafe offers fresh, inventive, and inexpensive gastro-stryle grub situated in a warm homey environment. Service is friendly and inviting. I could linger here drinking beer after beer all day long -- and I do! On a recent visit, I had the pleasure of ordering their insanely delicious Gruyere fondue which was a steal because, at 13 Euro, it easily feeds two people. But really, all the food I've ever had here is outstanding. They use only fresh local ingredients and the menu tends to lean towards a vegitarian-friendly crowd -- although, I've had a mean steak there as well. A cute pub/cafe along the canals of Amsterdam and within walking distance of the Anne Frank House! There's both an indoor pub area and an outdoor sitting area next to the canal. Their menu seems pretty basic, so I ordered their daily specials - seafood linguini and nasi goreng. Both were pretty good! The bitterballen were like hot deep fried balls of gravy and made for a good appetizer. Service is a little slow, but friendly. read more

I've tried 2 dishes at Cafe De Prins. The meatball with bread was surprisingly flavorful and tasty. The smoked salmon and asparagus was soggy and hard to finish. Both had great presentation and the service was excellent. The server and owner came out to check on us during our visit. We also noticed a lot of locals eating here and even coming by just to say hello. My husband and I enjoyed our 1 and half hour dinner on the patio eating where the locals ate. I would stay away from the salads and try their other items. Since I've only tried 2 things, I can only give a 3.5 out of 5 since the 1st dish was delicious, while 2nd dish wasn't satisfactory. However, when I do return to Amsterdam, I would go back and try other items on the menu. The prices are affordable, the view is beautiful and the people are wonderful. read more

Cafe de Prins is a very easygoing place to go for a drink or dinner. They serve a selection of dishes and vary their menu on a daily and weekly basis with a 'daghap' (daily dish) for always 10 euro, and a 'week special'. Don't expect too fancy food, but good food for a fair price in a friendly atmosphere. Here you can have the real dutch Snert (pea soup) or a good steak. The pasta with pumpkin was not the best I ever had, but the fries I stole from my friend were very nice. The waiters are very authentic and prompt. The public is quite diverse, which makes this place also fun for people-watching. A good place to go with some friends, probably not the best place for a first date, except maybe when you are a student ;-). read more

Came here on our food tour as the last stop and I must say, the poffertjes here is a MUST! They are like egg puffs but Dutch version. This is a bad hit they had this awesome puffers served here. Not too sweet but such amazing texture. My friends also liked their Heineken, which tastes a lot more bitter back in the states so it was well received here. I had an orange juice and surprised it was fresh squeezed! Yum! Lots of seating and has two restrooms downstairs. read more

What the heck, Yelp?!! I've been traveling through Eueope, totally missing the advice of Yelpers worldwide (we were in Luxembourg and discovered Yelp doesn't even recognize it as a country...), so when we finally got to Amsterdam, I was excited to finally have others' experiences to read about. Get to the Netherlands and do as we've been doing, just following the guidance of people we encounter along the way, and so make our way to le Prins. Best food, drink, and service we've had in 4 countries! We had the shrimp croquettes served with a super tasty dipping sauce. Perfectly fried, hot, gooey, deliciousness. Beef salad with cilantro pesto was simple yet amazing - we vowed we'll try and recreate the recipe at home. Cheese fondue was also spot-on and very good, I only wish it came with heartier veggies for dipping like broccoli & cauliflower as opposed to the provided blanched (why??) carrot and celery sticks. Anyone who's been here knows there's no shortage of places to eat and drink; but I'd easily come back to le Prins any time I'm in the Netherlands. Amazing staff (bartenders & the cook) really took the time to chat with us and give some fantastic recommendations. The ambiance/vibe was also really cozy, warm, and inviting. I walked inside and was told we could sit at any table. We sat down and waited for a menu, but it never came. My husband had to get up and ask for a menu and the waitress finally came over asked what we wanted to drink. My husband ordered a beer and I ordered a glass of Syrah (it was on the menu). She didn't know what Syrah was and I had to point out it was wine. We got our drinks, waited 20 minutes to order food, and finally got back up to order at the bar. 30 minutes later, the appetizer had not come to our table, so we got up to leave. When given the check, we noticed the food on our bill and we said that we weren't paying for it. She asked if we didn't like the food and we told her we never got it. Her response, "Oh. Okay." If the staff spent more time waiting on their customers instead of hanging out with friends, they would probably be better off. But, it turned out they had a few specials and one of them was the grilled pork chop with mustard potato salad. That was amazingly good! A lovely cafe with outdoor seating right by the canal. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the coffee was good and it was just nice to sit outside and watch passerby or locals bustling about their business. The location is not that far from Anne Frank House, but I feel that I am getting more local vibe here than bunch of tourists hoarding seats in a cafe. Serendipitous lunchtime discovery! Recommended by our MacBike tourguide as having a decent beer selection (it does), the food was also hearty and delicious! Our trio split the lamb goulash, the daily special (white asparagus, ham, baked potato wedges and hollandaise), and the hot bar snacks platter. PLENTY of food for three people. Also, pretty sure the springroll-esque fried cheese should be illegal. Absolutely too good to be true. Also, AWESOME wait staff. In particular the bar staff, who were quick to recommend different beers on tap as per our preferences. One (the manager, perhaps?) not only served us our drinks as we waited on a table, but took our orders and conversed with us in our respective languages (Italian, German and English). a very local joint on the beautiful Prinsengracht filled with typical dutch entrees. we were all in the mood for fondue which comes with a small salad. one of us also had the beef stroganoff. I enjoyed it all! Fondue was cheesy smooth and winey as it should be. Stroganoff was tender, moist and flavorful. Our waiter was very friendly and all were quite attentive to our table. I'm not a huge beer drinker but saw they had a nice selection on tap. Decor is straight forward with no fluff and good honest Dutch food. Even though it is in a pretty touristy location, De Prins is not a tourist spot. dinner is great and packed with Amsterdamers. A good range of options including some typical Dutch (beef on a bed of potatoes and endive, and the best bitterballen we've found) dishes. Our son (18) reported the bacon cheeseburger was fantastic. De Prins - like many an Amsterdam Winkel - is staffed by warm, helpful, charming humans. They have canal side seating too. Their's is on the north side (further from Westerkerk and the Anne Frank House) of the Leliegracht bridge. We only came by twice. Once for coffee and then another evening for dinner. We wish we had discovered it sooner We will certainly be regulars at De Prins on our next trip to Amsterdam. read more
