When I met Jeff, he listened attentively and gave me his qualifications. His experience impressed me, and my concerns were minimized. I am so pleased with the results. Belle Chesser is a perfect example of customer service at its finest !! The original stylist I had scheduled with has naturally curly hair as do I. She had a sick child and was not able to be there. Very nice decor, very friendly staff. After a week of working with my haircut, I think $46 is overpriced. I paid $42 in Atlanta and the cut was so precision I only had to dry and spritz. I have never written a review before, but I felt like I needed to share. After a stressful week, I was ecstatic to get my hair done and to relax. I have gone to Arbor for many years and I have had many good experiences there. However, this time has changed everything. Due to the pandemic, I was given instructions on the new protocol. I support the safety measures and appreciate they are doing that. When I arrived to Arbor for my appointment, I realized I had forgotten my mask at home. So, I called the front desk and explained what happened and that I am happy to go get one before I come in. She said no it is okay we have some in here you can use. So then I received the okay to come in. Right when I walked in the door I was greeted angrily by the owner, Mike Kilpatrick. He was reprimanding me harshly for not already having a mask on, without knowing the whole situation. It was obvious that he was only speaking to me in this way because he is an older man and am a young woman, he felt like he had a right. He was disrespectful and demeaning. You should never treat a person this way, including someone who is planning to spend their money supporting your business. I 100% understand the seriousness of the health concerns, but I was doing what I was told was okay. It is unfortunate that I love my hair stylist there so much, she always is kind and does a great job. However, because of him Arbor Salon has lost my business. I had never been to Arbor Salon & Spa having lived in Athens for 10 years now. I love the atmosphere and the staff is wonderful, checking in to make sure I had everything I needed. Walking in, I was greeted by the receptionist Katie. She was lovely and very professional. I had booked an appointment online with Belle who walked up to the desk as I arrived. I found Belle very friendly and knowledgeable throughout my service of color low lights and haircut. It is obvious she loves color and she is very talented in that respect. When I go to a salon, it's me time. I don't go that often and really look forward to it when I do book an appointment. I was not disappointed and will return for future visits. I always work with Brittany, but I have yet to meet a staff member that didn't go out of their way to make me feel welcome. Over the past two years, I've had the opportunity to engage in several conversations with the owner, and I can tell you that he is extremely involved in the business and personally ensures that every customer is treated very well. Mike has built a culture around customer service and comfort that most businesses could learn from. The products and services are reasonable priced and the services are of excellent quality. I have never been unhappy with any service I've received, although I am sure it would be made right if I were. Arbor Salon is my favorite spa in town, with the absolute best skincare specialists in all of Athens. Beta and Corrie are both so amazing--they are so talented, professional and sweet. I could go on and on about how great they both are. THEY are the reason I will always return to Arbor...they are irreplaceable! So, why did I give only 3 stars? Because Arbor doesn't accept American Express! It is classified as "a full service elite salon and day spa", and in many ways they are...but, they don't accept AmEx because it takes too long to receive their money (according to their receptionist). It's hard to consider yourself high-end or elite if you don't accept AmEx. Many people, like myself, earn points on our spa and salon spending, and thus it is "wasteful" to go somewhere that doesn't accept it. I pay cash for a wax with Beta, or a manicure with Corrie, because they are SO worth it, but take the rest of my business to other spas in town, which do accept American Express. I've requested Arbor reconsider accepting AmEx many times, and sadly, they're just not into it. I would spend so much more $ there if they accepted it, AND I would rate them 5 stars! Love the spa and love their service, but its 2017--who doesn't accept AmEx? So strange! read more

I've been to a few salons around Athens, and I am finally settled in here at Arbor. They offer great hair at a reasonable price, and the keep a cold cup of Coke Zero in my lap the whole time. You can't beat it. You can find me there every few weeks for a cut and highlight. One of the biggest draws for me was the safe neighborhood. For some odd reason, I feel like all the good salon recommendations in Athens start with a sheepish excuse about the location--and to be sure to lock your car doors. Uh. No hair is worth feeling threatened when I pull in. Arbor is in a good part of town, in a lovely, modern building, with a private lot. I have people ask me all the time where I get my hair done. Was visiting Athens from out of town and decided to get a massage on the spur of the moment. I'd only ever received one massage and had a really bad experience (not at Arbor!). They were able to work us in and even offered to call in a therapist early if we couldn't make the time slot. My massage therapist was Micki and she was WONDERFUL. Very warm and personable and the massage was perfect. Strong enough to do some good, but not so strong that I felt like I was hit by a truck the next day. I am leaving an overview for all of my experiences at Arbor Salon and Spa. I went for a haircut in early June. I have curly hair and hadn't had a trim in a while. The first hair cut was nice. I was very happy with it. I attempted to make an appointment for a massage for myself and my mother in law, who was visiting, in early July. I called in and the girl that answered the phone said she didn't know if any of the packages offered on the website were being honored and she needed to check with the manager. She told me to call back the following Monday. I did. It was a waste of time because I was informed they were closed the Friday I wanted to make an appointment. So, I found a better spa, which I have had many appointments at over the last 3 months. Now, my most recent appointment, with the worst haircut I have had in 10 years. I told the stylist to only trim off 1/2 an inch and to leave my layers exactly how they were. Instead, I got 2 inches cut off of my layers and now I look like a big puff ball. (Curly hair shrinks up, so, 2 inches is a huge deal). I specifically said to leave my layers long because I need the weight on my hair to make my curls lay correctly and to keep my hair from getting huge. So, if you like big, frizzy messes and to have someone take off way more than you discussed - this is the place for you. Over all, I am not going to go back to this salon and I will find somewhere else to go. I would recommend this place to someone I don't like. read more

I had my first appointment with Jessica today for highlights and a cut. I've gone to a salon in Atlanta for several years and was looking for someone in Athens so I wouldn't have to drive so far. Jessica was awesome. I told her I was ready for a little change with my color and cut. I told her a couple of ideas that I had but told her I trusted her judgement. Was there for literally 5 minutes for a perm consultation and I doubt I'll ever return. Within 2 minutes of talking to the lady she told me how much she hates perms and how damaging they are and then proceeded to tell me she'd charge me $100+ an hour for the service. Yeah, right. I'm not paying that for a service that you hate doing. I doubt that would turn out well. Lost potential client here. read more

i've visited arbor two times so far: 1) Today I met with a Ukranian hair stylist named Inna for a bang and hair trim. She gives the BEST head/scalp massages (which comes with every shampoo + condition!) and clearly told me everything that she was doing before she did it in order to make sure that I was okay with what she was doing. She was also very meticulous and detailed about cutting my hair, which I really appreciated. 2) The first time I visited Arbor a few months ago, I met with Brittany for a pretty daunting task of ombre'ing my hair. A little bit of my hair history: I have naturally dark brown/black asian hair, but I had been dying my hair at home for the past four years, which was giving me that gold-blonde color so many asian people usually have. However, I was obviously tired with it and asked Brittany to ombre my hair so that my natural roots could come in and I could grow my dyed hair out as "natural" looking as possible. She did the BEST job! She missed a spot after she was done dying, shampooing, and conditioning my hair, yet she proceeded to re-dye and re-mix all of the dye in order to fix that one spot. I get SO many compliments on my ombre even a few months after the appointment! People tell me how "natural" my ombre is, when I'm really just growing my hair out. The process took a good few hours but Brittany was so sweet the entire time! A little warning though, this salon is more on the pricey side. For example, the 2 inches off of my hair + the bang trim with Inna was $51, plus another $10 tip for a total of $61. The ombre session with Brittany was about $150 but I had a coupon which made it a bit cheaper. However, you receive the best customer service and everyone is so sweet! PS: there's a cute cafe literally right next door to the salon - grab a drink before your appointment if you can! however, arbor also provides drinks upon arrival. read more

For the price of the nail services (46 for regular pedicure; 26 for regular manicure), I was expecting a better experience. The spa chair I was in was not anchored correctly, so with every movement I was jolted forward or backward. Not at all relaxing. This was one of the most disappointing manicures I have had. I have had such a positive experience here before today! I got my hair done here for prom back in 2010 and then came back for a haircut right before I gave birth to my baby girl. The hair cut was excellent and I was very impressed with the customer service I recieved. So the next time we came back my husband scheduled and appointment because he was so impressed. I also scheduled an appointment to get my hair colored and was under the assumption we would be going at different times since we now have a newborn. We came in and found out they scheduled us at the same time even though we said different times. Then my husband met his lady who cut his hair and then did my hair. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there and she argued with me the whole time saying I don't want to bleach your hair so let's do it this color. It wasn't the color I wanted but I thought she might just be having a bad day and left. Today we went in because I want my hair bleached blonde and apparently they scheduled me with this same lady. She didn't want to do my hair and said she didn't have time at first so we asked for another lady. Then she all of a sudden had the time and continuously argued with my husband for another 30 minutes while we waited for the owner. Overall this salon is great but this lady has lost all aspect of customer service and really messed up my view of this salon. I will probably never return because of this experience. read more
