But still, if I'm looking for a burger and there's a DQ in the area, I'll go there more often than not. But, sadly, not this one. It's not actually bad, you understand. But it just kind of feels like they're phoning it in. I'd still take this DQ over, say, McDonald's. But it's just not as good as other DQs. (And, unfortunately, with Sheetz, Burger King, and Arby's all fairly close, it's just got too much competition for my taste buds.) I don't wish them ill, but they need to pull up their socks to get back in the game.

Ambiance: lotsa parking on site and there's a traffic light at the entrance of the group of stores and restaurants. This restaurant is off a heavily trafficked road, so you know the importance of a traffic light to small and local businesses. I wish the chain carried Thousand Island dressing, as I would have had a salad instead of my fries. I would have ordered regular lemonade instead of just drinking ice water. (They have fancy lemonade with cool flavors that my friends really enjoyed). Neither of those are deal breakers, though.

Sign taped to the glass out front said worker was solo and in the bathroom, soon to return. As my wife and I prepared to leave we saw two Subway workers sitting in the kitchen. We said we had been waiting for 15 minutes because of the sign and one worker said, "That is still there"? I responded, "Yes, if you two are in the kitchen, one of you should be watching for customers. We were leaving." The reply, "We have a buzzer that is supposed to go off." I said, "My wife and I and a cart full of groceries didn't trip your buzzer." Then, the sub we ordered to split between us...hard old bun and both told us they ran out of mayonnaise. One took off the top of the dispenser and dumped a large quantity of residual mayonnaise on half the sub. No service recovery. Two workers static in the kitchen while customers waited for 15 minutes, one sub, poor service, poor planning for mayonnaise, old hard bun....significant opportunities for leadership engagement, retraining, supply management improvement and fresh products. No service recovery offered or received.

Possibly, that's because it's the only fast food joint on, or even close to, Route 6. (Most of the other options are on Pennsylvania Avenue or Market Street.) Or possibly, it's because the food is really good. The kids were under the impression that they only sell drinks and ice cream. That may have been the case once, but now they offer hot food as well. My grilled chicken sandwich was superb and the broccoli and cheddar bits were a nice break from the usual fries, my sweetie enjoyed her fish sandwich and was delighted by the macaroni and cheese bites, Working Man enjoyed his cheeseburger, and the Cute Little Fluffy Kin raved about the hot dogs. (The hot dogs did smell really good, but I resisted the urge to try to steal some.) I suspect that they may figure out a way to get there even when we're not in town to take them. There is also a very wide selection of ice cream flavours. They take plastic, but charge a dollar more if you don't pay cash. (I don't know how they get away with that.) There are a few picnic tables scattered around, but no inside seating (or washrooms). Any time I've been by during their open season, there has been a lineup at the order windows, so clearly, the locals know that this is a good place to get some grub. It's not fine dining, but it's tasty and fun.
