Firstly, admission is free which is always welcome. The building is a mixture of new and old - you enter through an amazing old brick chimney, but inside you find a modern gallery (shared with the local library). There are exhibits on the history of glass making in the area as well as displays of art work. There's a well stocked shop, and a cafe too. A connecting bridge over the canal takes you to the museum part of the site, based in old glassworks which have been partially restored. The real highlight though was the glassblowing workshop. You do have to pay to watch these, but it was well worth it. When we went, we were the only two people present so effectively got a personal demonstration. Absolutely fabulous and highly recommended.

The newsagents is very small and if its busy inside here you will feel squashed up. Dhorats has got some odd opening times and they often close with out giving any notice to customers to. I feel Dhorats prices for their items are good you can find some frozen food on sale to at good prices. At summer times Dhorats is very popular with the kids and teenagers as they come often here to buy their lollies. Dhorats also sells fireworks at good prices each year. Dhorats has always been an good newagents to come to.

It does get very busy in here and wouldn't be suitable for wheelchair users as you can hardly move has it is. There is lots of changing rooms in this shop but there has to be as like i said it gets very busy. They do a really nice selection of clothes for young teenagers and they do a good selection of underwear and shoes as well. Now, in Manchester you have to shop around for these things. Poundland or Poundstretcher for the sugar-free fizzy Vimto, Tesco for the fondant pencils, Home Bargain for the cheap Maynards and so on and so on. This newsagent is crammed to bursting with retro stuff, pick n' mix, the widest variety of soft drinks I've ever seen and tons more, including, obviously, printed news and magazines. I'm a huge fan of it and the shopkeepers are mighty friendly too. Definitely check it out if you're shopping in Southport.
