The restaurant is underneath the main shop, but it feels cosy rather than basement-y, with white walls and plush blue velvet curtains. We had some french people stay with us once, and they really wanted to try proper fish and chips, so we brought them here. They weren't disappointed - who could be with light, crispy battered haddock and fluffy golden chips on offer, with proper mushy peas and gravy that tastes like it's been made for a roast dinner? Ommmm.

The line-up on a Monday night was out the door. A sure sign this is a popular place with the locals! I highly recommend Ambridges for a fresh tasty traditional paper wrapped fish and chip feast!

I am told all the produce is sourced locally. The restaurant is very much you get what you pay for; a little more expensive but soooo worth it. The fish and chips takes some getting through. The only downside for the take away is its popularity. At peak times the queue can be quite long but well worth the wait.

Some guy I've never seen behind the counter before helped us and he was in really good spirits. In fact it was nice to be entertained until our food was ready. I have to say, if I ordered the small fish and chips... I'm not sure what the regular size looks like! The small would've been enough for two people. I can finally say that I have had the fish and I will say that it is the best fish and chip shop in town!
