The tour of the house was guided and it was just two of us and the guide. The guide had a wealth of knowledge and we appreciated what she had to say about the house and the Sharp family. One interesting and impressive fact, their well was inside the house. This way they didn't have to go out in Michigan winters to get their water. My daughter is a big fan of old homes especially Victorian style homes. While it's a Victorian style house it also had Italian influences in the structure. The art gallery had a World War I exhibit (100 year anniversary), sculptures and a quilt exhibit.

Art from the local Jackson County Artist Association is prominently displayed (boy, do they have some great artists here!). I've had many pieces of art framed here as well and the work is always 5 star. The owner is always ready to help and has an eye for making your piece look its best and remain within your budget. My sister, who lives 1200 miles away, solely uses I've Been Framed for her custom framing as she is unable to find a local framer who can compare. I live nearby and have been driving by here for YEARS but it was always at night well after they're…read moreclosed (it's on our drive home from the Emagine movies in Saline). Everytime we passed their big red barn I would say, "I gotta go there and check it out!" And then I'd forget until the next time we drove by. I just always went by too late in the evening to do anything about it! BUT I finally found myself there during the day and now that I've actually been I'm so mad at myself for all the amazing things I've been missing! Upon my arrival I was greeted by a gorgeous horse and two shaved alpacas in a pen by the parking area. Upon further inspection I also saw several goats (including some youngins) and two very cute donkeys. All of them were so friendly and curious. Getting to pet cute animals? It was already a five star fave and I hadn't even gone inside! Eventually I pulled myself away from the cuties and went inside. There I found a wonderfully curated selection of locally made pantry goods for sale (some baked goods, jams, honey, snack foods, candy, coffee, pastas, etc) a few standing coolers of refrigerated and frozen goods like locally sourced eggs, dairy, ice cream, quiche, pierogi, dips and spreads, and more. And of course, the star of the show, their own selection of pasture raised and house butchered cuts of beef, pork, and chicken (alongside more processed offerings like sausages, brats, etc). It doesn't get much fresher, local, and sustainable than this, folks! And they have a massive selection to choose from, too. We had just started our recent heatwave and I had errands to run so I didn't want to buy a lot but I did get a frozen quiche, a package of whitefish dip, granola, a couple of small ice cream bars (might have eaten those in the car!), and some cheese curds. Luckily they had cooler bags so I added one of those to the order to help the frozen goods keep everything else cold. I plan on visiting again soon to pick up some steaks or ribs to throw on the grill, too. I can't wait to try their other offerings! Thrilled to have finally made it here and it will definitely now be part of our regular grocery rotation!

Local, natural, ethical, sustainable. Easy to spot the big red barn off Wagner and easy parking on site. They also offer bundle boxes and online ordering on their site!

Earlier this year, Washington Street Gallery moved to S. Main, and they're now abbreviating the…read moregallery to WSG, which I guess makes sense seeing as they're not on Washington anymore. The space is bright and clean, with white walls, hardwood floors and lots of light. They offer a mix of paintings, sketches and prints as well as three-dimensional art, ranging from geometric abstracts to landscapes to whimsical metal people sculptures made from appliances. All are made by regional artists. I'm not really their target audience since I can't really afford hundreds of dollars for original art, but they did have some nice smaller prints at prices the little people could afford. I was tempted by a few smaller pieces that were under $40.
