At this restaurant, things never get better. From waiting 30 minutes for the first drink (5 bartenders, 7 customers); to some food never arriving, despite repeated requests; to the wrong bill, 3 times! The managers would make excuses, then disappear, never to be seen again. After the first 30 minutes, our server disappeared, never to be seen again. And the food (the ordered items that we actually did get) was absolutely horrible: Steak salted within an inch of its life; flaccid vegetables; disgusting guacamole. These folks managed the trifecta of terrible food, even worse service, and indifferent staff and management. If you go here, you will regret it. With so many other, good restaurants in Mérida, don't waste your time or your money here. After more than 300 meals out in 2022, this place earns the award for Worst Restaurant of the Year.

Case in point: Hubbers is very familiar with the area, and we still ended up making a wrong turn (we turned early when it was actually next door. Heh...) But it was part of our day's tour, so we were gonna end up here one way or another. If you're interested in Merida's history, this place is full of so much information. There are murals on every wall, each explaining what the pictures are depicting. We took our time reading through those as we walked through all the corridors. Next was the museum which contained tons of paintings, and like the murals, also with stories behind them. We were done in about an hour, hour and a half tops, and that's without rushing. We learned tons of interesting historical facts! The building has been around over 130 years, but there are still active/working government offices in continued use today. And the best part of this visit? IT'S FREE. A definite must stop for tourists who are interested in learning about how Merida came about. Highly recommending.

If you can understand basic Spanish, then this tour might be for you…read more Needless to say, it wasn't great for me who can only understand very minimal Spanish. Hubbers and I deliberately made time to experience this tour just so I can learn more about his family's hometown. And because I couldn't understand most of what was being said, didn't really learn much. Party of three, we met up with the host and was told the next bus run wasn't going to be for another half hour, so the three of us killed time by cooling off with sorbets at the dulceria nearby. We came back and we ended up waiting another 20 minutes. I'm guessing they were hoping for more passengers. Hubbers and his cousin decided to take the tour upstairs - under the sun. That was a no-no for me since it was way too hot for me to hangout there for an hour, so I stayed put downstairs. I searched for headphones to plug in their translation outlets: nothing. Them outlets didn't even look like they were working. But just for curiosity, I asked the driver if there were headphones. He told me, "NO." So, I had to put a quick thought in this: should I join Hubbers and cuzzo upstairs and maybe he can translate for me but suffer the blistering sun, or just stay downstairs and be more comfy? I went for the latter. So, yes, disappointing. I also need to mention the windows were open, so this is not an AC'd one-and-a-half-hour ride. I did enjoy seeing some structures, I understood a bit of description of some of them (but not enough to learn about them). We made one stop - just to pick up more passengers, and we were back in front of the cathedral in no time. Not recommending for non-Spanish speakers. I can't remember how much it was but wasn't worth it for me. One-and-done.

Unless you speak Spanish, do not take this tour unless you just want to drive around the city for an hour and a quarter (which was also shorter than the website claimed). Also, it is not a hop on and hop off ride like it says on the bus and on the website. The bus never stopped. I am giving it to stars because it was nice to see the city and one of us spoke Spanish and they understood the history. We took the barrios tour.

I was on the fence because I haven't…read moregone biking in a long time, but when I realized most of them were going, I thought, "why not." It was a delight to learn that most of the streets in this entire area (and then some!) are closed to regular traffic on Sundays 'til noon exclusively for people who might want to go bike riding! They set up paths so you can see some sights and landmarks - tons of streets vendors come out, got to map out a few eateries and stores I wanted to check out later in the week, the church and the cathedral, etc. We got to the bike rental areas and didn't waste any time. I followed the closed off track and let wherever my paddling feet took me. There truly was a lot of discoveries other thanwhat I already mentioned. I'm limited in terms of Merida's history, but I felt it just by simply riding the bike through this entire town. TIP: Bike ride or otherwise, wear a hat, wear sunscreen. That blaring sun can get vicious! There are a lot of vendors who will try to get a sale even while you're in the middle of a meal. There are also lots of tour guides doing the same thing. They're mostly not pushy, and they leave almost immeidately once you nicely turn them down. Merida is a very safe town - there are no gun stores anywhere. Strict rules if you are interested in buying one, you'll have to go through lots of steps that it doesn't seem worth it. I loved my visit here, truly. I'm looking forward to my next visit!
