I recommend parking and exploring the murals by foot since there's a lot of detail in each. While you're nearby, I recommend stopping in the Amtrak station as well to see the free exhibit in the foyer about the Underground Railroad. Some information in the exhibit ties back to these murals. If you have more time, I highly recommend exploring the museum too ($10).

We started at a local pizza fav, and after having some I the pizza its easy to see why it's a fav. People come back to Buffalo and drive to this pizza joint for a slice. We walked down 18th and 19th streets and saw some of the good and bad. Once a thriving family area as people moved away some of the homes fell into disrepair. Then some stores closed etc. It does seem to be coming back a little here and there. A freshly painted home. A new storefront. An inviting restaurant for a bite. Thanks Nicole for showing us a side of Niagara Falls we may not otherwise have visited.

I'm not sure when this went up. I noticed it the other day walking by. Then I heard a piece about…read moreit on WBFO. It's another public art mural by the Albright Knox. This one honors John Brent. John Brent was Buffalo's first African-American architect and a notable civic leader. He was very active with the Buffalo zoo and designed much of the space here. According to the placard outside the mural he was also Buffalo's first president of the Buffalo branch of the NAACP and later a founding member of what is now the New York State division of human rights. The man is honored with a mural for a very notable career. The artist is James Cooper III.
