Due to capacity limits our friends were unable to join us and so we'll have to try again another time to go with friends but this first experience for a public swim was excellent! The toddler really loved the shark shaped flotation device to ride and the waterslide was a hit all around. The little kid slide was good too though it ended in deeper water than the toddler was used to... it was still enjoyable! The pool was very busy which was a bit overwhelming due to the pandemic. The other fitness areas looked good from afar. The family change room was great though the first locker we tried to use didn't work so we had to try another locker to secure our belongings. I liked the fact that the family change room had everyone change in change rooms which is great -- and it really wasn't a family change room but rather an all-gender/all-abilities change room for the pool which is a refreshing change! Having the lockers be free was great too! And the shower was okay. All in all the this changing facility seemed a bit too busy too but otherwise was just fine. I liked the hot tub and the slide. This facility is reasonably well situated for transit accessibility. Parking is tight but there's a great map for alternate areas if the lot is too busy. We'll be back for more community swims... and possibly for more eventually!

The in-water climbing wall is interesting, if a little odd. Pool is divided into kids' shallower pool with a few spray features and another for lane swimming, which is probably a good choice. The fitness equipment has moved upstairs, and the running track is suspended over the indoor soccer fields, which given the noise level there will mean runners will not be having any zen running experiences. Or their ipods will be cranked up high. There are a couple of multipurpose rooms right off the entrance area - one set up as toddler play room and another with tables and chairs which will undoubtedly host hundreds of birthday parties a year. The parking lot is quite small so when there are two soccer games on it will be crowded. All in all a very nice upgrade to the neighbourhood.

We also really like swim lessons here for the wee ones. The fact that the pool facility has so many different features is great! The one downside of course is that this facility can get REALLY busy and full on a regular basis. The fitness centre is good too, though it can be crowded. My kid adores the interactive art in the lobby. Transit is nearby and parking is ample though you may have to walk a fair bit once you've parked in the overflow lot.

There are always good classes going on here. There's a nook on the Northside of the running track with stationery bikes, a pulley machine, and kettle bells so I can do the majority of my workout in this section. They also have a ton of free weights, all the different cardio machines, weight machines, a running track, turf fields, racquet ball courts, basketball courts, and a beautiful pool. It really has everything I could ever need to stay fit. By far the prettiest and best stocked city facility.

Not as big as WEM but still super cool. Can be very crampt on weekends looks like. Lots of families there. They have a hot tub, sauna, steam room and a lazy river. They basically have it all. Lanes were closed for dropins. Its a big sports center, if I was in the park more often I woulf check it out. Definitely a gem to check out.

Little community league spray parks like this are a real gem! With playground equipment designed for toddlers and bigger kids AND a section of swings, this community league has got it all. There is a green shack here in the summer but I think the hours were 230-6PM Monday through Friday so we just missed them opening. Back behind the grassy knoll were great hills that just begged for bike riding fun or sledding in the winter! The park is fenced off with a couple entrances/exits but I REALLY appreciate limtied entries and exits when watching multiple kiddos 5 & under at a park! The water portion was small in comparison to the spray and splash parks listed on the city of Edmonton website but this is still a total gem! There was more than enough water features to keep the approximately 30 kids in the water entertained and the sandy toddler area also had toddler height sand/water tables for more fun play! There were washrooms available for our use and the Ottewell Community League playschool was also on site today. Man... If I lilved here, I would most DEFINITELY be having my kiddo's next birthday party here! There is a fairly large covered area with multiple picnic tables and quite a few shady spots and benches around the park. This particular visit was rather humorous because I had to rescue some screaming kidlets from squishing and stepping on poo that some kid left on the ground - YUCK! Thankfully, the washrooms came in handy so I could grab some paper towels and clean it up best I could for the kidlets! If you have toddler or little kids, then this park is worth the drive from anywhere around Edmonton! Or if you are shopping for a place to move and raise kids and want to be near Capillano, this may be just the neighbourhood for you!

People come from all other neighbourhoods to enjoy the park and spray park. There is a great Green Shack program for the older kids through out the summer. And through the winter the full size skating rink is amazing with a full size locker room for changing comfortably. It's always clean and there are great things for the kids to play with young and old. It's also a busy little Hall for events and bookings. With seating capacity up to 120, there is a electric fire place and a projector with a screen for all this slide shows. The best thing about the hall is the huge chef's kitchen. Tons of room with all the bells and whistles for catering your own events. It also has a nice bar with a huge fridge and serving area for that professional touch. Did I mention the commercial Ice Maker? Yeah one of those too! The rental rates are fantastic and even better if you a community league member!

We parked at the parking lot along 111 Avenue but the entrance is on the northwest side so we know for next time. The gym has space for 4 courts which could be booked for badminton or pickleball. We brought our own paddles but you can rent them there and they also provides us with 2 balls. Renters have to set up and take down their own nets but there's a storage space which made nets easy to find. There were bleachers and chairs to keep our water bottles. During our 2 hours, all the courts were booked. The locker room is nice which change rooms, showers, and the bathrooms. We just needed to bring our own locker. The space looked clean and not too busy in the rest of the centre. I will definitely be back if we're looking for a convenient space to play pickleball!

I went along to the Central Lions Centre last night to take part in some Scottish Country Dancing!…read moreIt was was harder than I remember from when I was a teenager haha But it was so much fun. As expected there were a lot of older ladies there but they were waaayyyyyy better dancers than me! The building is right off 111 Ave and has a parking lot out front with plenty of disabled parking spots too. It's really accessible which is perfect if there are a lot of elderly people visiting. Inside it's huge, with a large entrance way where everyone hangs out on comfy seats. It's clean and well lit. There are lots of rooms which split the class in to groups beginners, intermediate and advanced. They do lots of other activities including Zumba and the rooms are available to rent too!

Came to the Castle Downs Spray Park today as part of my Yelp quest to find the best of the best…read morespray and splash parks in and around Edmonton. Castle Downs comes in at a strong 4 out of 5 stars. Today was a jam packed Sunday afternoon with so very many options including multiple playgrounds, giant gazebo, skatepark, 2 food trucks - ice cream and a Poutine/burger/fry truck, and the city of Edmonton Green Shack peeps. The Spray park had several zones including a musical piano, spray cannons, and loops of water you can run through. PROS Multiple water and playground zones -something for everyone Washrooms Food trucks Green shacks Huge grass fields/hills surrounding park Ample parking lot City of Edmonton Staff Rubber ground for majority of spray park and playground Lots of swings CONS Too big! So big that it was easy to lose track of my toddler even while playing with him on the playground and in the spray park Zones are not fenced in so if you lose track of your child, they could go missing quickly or wander to the parking lot/road. Close proximity of townhomes attached to the backing grass, again not fenced off, would also make it easy for a child to wander to a residential area. Some people may be thinking, hey watch you kid(s) and yes BUT if you are here with several children (especially toddlers) we all know how fast one can run off while attending to another child. The water cannons shoot water hard enough to nearly knock my toddler off his feet - good for BIG kids but not so great for my toddler and kindergartner Lack of shade - lots of people set their chairs up against the washroom building to try and find shade Very few benches/picnic tables In summary, Castle Downs park has loads of amenities and lots of space but so much so that it felt overwhelming at times and difficult to keep track of little ones. If you have a big kid that doesn't require sight and sound supervision, this may be the park for you! But if you're like me with a toddler and little kid, this park was a little too much for us coupled with a lack of shade or fenced in areas resulting in a solid 4 out of 5 stars. PS - If you are planning on coming here with little ones under 5 - I'd recommend a 1:1 ratio of supervision to toddlers :-)

This was a great venue for the Corporate Challenge volleyball games. They could accommodate 9…read moregames at a time and there were many other gyms for kids' basketball games. They set up bleachers but only for the court closet to the walkway. The change room was large with lockers and private change room. They could have had more toilets though as I could see a line forming when the centre is busy. The only complaint I had was the room temperature was very warm but likely sweaty bodies would have contributed to that as well. It would be nice to also see additional food vendors but the Dairy Queen seemed very popular. Great access as there was ample free parking and close to the LRT as well.

The Edmonton Go Centre will be the new home for the University of Alberta Bears and Pandas team…read more Located directly beside the Saville centre, this new facility holds over 8 full sized basketball gyms and a couple of full length volley ball and badminton courts. The courts themselves are outstanding and the main gym itself will have spectacular hard wood floors as well as an indoor track along the upstairs. Drop in passes are comparable to the YMCA and they also offer summer camps as well as gymnastics classes. For those who wish to play some pick up, hit the birdie or spike some balls, definitely check out this new facility. An interesting note, every court also has electronic scoreboards!
