This place is huge! I got lost looking for the drink. I was in the area so I decided to check the pool out. Pretty sizable, its weird how half the pools in this city are tiny and the others are gigantic. I mistook the hot tub for a pool at first. Bad vision without my specs. Hot tub wasn't too hot but it might've been the day. Theres 3 pools I think. Kids, lanes and a diving area. This place has a slide and a lot more. In the swimming lanes, someone had an under water radio, which was weird but cool! Couldn't hear it above water, only below. I didn't see a sauna but there is a steam room. Every 40 seconds it was blasting heat into the room pshhh! Pshhh! I found it a bit tricky to find the shower by the steam but its probably just my bad eyes again. read more

I love the meadows. Over any other rec center in thecity. Its my personal go to and i feel very comfortable there.

Overall, I really love the Meadows Rec Centre and I've been going here for years. The staff at the front desk are really kind, patient, and friendly. Although I've typically had great experiences at this rec centre, there's one point I'd like to share. I run the track and weight train multiple days per week up in the fitness center and one of the staff members continues harassing me and making me feel uncomfortable. I see him conversing with many women and girls in inappropriate ways. Personally, I don't think it's appropriate for 40+ year old men to be building lengthy conversations with young girls; this makes me feel unsafe and as if I constantly need to avoid this person at the gym. I don't think people like this should be able to work in a place where there are young people. All parents of minors and young women, I'd strongly advise you to be cautious in the fitness center and be watchful if you see a staff member named "Dug". He may seem innocent but he's creepy. place is great also in great condition. pools are fairly warm, there are many food places like booster juice and dairy queen. And reasonable prices, big place great parking highly suggest taking a swim, playing hockey, going to the library. read more

I have been going to the Meadows every Sunday to workout and swim. The workout gym is beautiful. There are so many machines. I rarely have to wait at all except for some specific ones. It's nice using such new machines. You're also able to connect them with your phone so that it can track or you can listen to music with. There's also a running track and a smaller room that has weights. I have not attended but they also have spin classes and other aerobic, yoga, fitness classes you can attend as well. The pool is salt water which I really like. I normally use it only for laps so it is perfect for that. I have taken my niece and nephew before and I honestly wasn't a big fan. They divide the pools up into very small sections as they offer lots of classes. Besides a tiny area and a slide, there was not much room for everyone. The hot tub is quite nice to finish any swim off with! They do have the library, hockey rinks Dairy Queen, and a gym that you can play basketball/volleyball/badminton/etc. Some of the time the gym is fully open and it seems like a bit of a mad house. I haven't used it as there seems to be too much going on. I like the facility for what I use it for. I find it quite clean and the staff are friendly. I would recommend it! read more

I used to go the Rundle park ACT centre for swimming lessons as a child... the city of Edmonton recreation centers have much improved since then. Swimming pools are larger with more features, facilities are larger & more modern. Memberships include full facility access (there's a 2 week free trial period offer until November 30, 2016). Drop-in classes have a lot of choices including strollercize or mom & baby barre for new moms among other fun classes like Zumba and bollyrobics. There are a couple of drop in classes strictly for women, but otherwise it's a co-ed facility except for change rooms. Staff is approachable and the facility clean, although a little warm for a workout space. Disposable disinfectant wipes dispenser make cleaning up after yourself a no-brainer after using equipment. Renting rooms is operated by a central city contact rather than the site itself, but it's easy to do & prices are reasonable. They also book parties for kids or fitness parties at the facility; but for additional costs. read more

With a City of Edmonton Recreation Center pass, one can visit any of the city-owned facilities to get their sweat on. To beat the winter blues I traveled away from my home base of Terwillegar to try out the Meadows, and I was pretty impressed by my visit. The facility is large and quite new, with an EPL branch location right in the rec center. There's a lot of general seating to hang out and wait, and there is a Dairy Queen inside as well (which is kind of confusing because you can see the Dairy Queen across the street while at the one inside the rec center, but whatever!). The fitness facilities include a pool (didn't look too closely), an Olympic lifting area, a large weight machine area, gymnasiums and a running track. The gymnasiums are open to the fitness area above, so on a Friday afternoon when I visited there were tons of teens playing and quite a bit of noise. I liked the track, as it doesn't meander around like the one at Terwillegar does, and the windows around it make running in circles more pleasant. The women's dry locker room was a little bit small, and only offered half lockers. It was tough to squeeze my huge winter coat and boots into a half locker with gym bag and purse. If this is a concern for you, I'd recommend bringing two locks. The locker room is also quite open and didn't offer much privacy for changing. No facility is ever going to be perfect, but this one is pretty good. It's a bit out of the way for me, but I'll be returning. read more

Just opened in November 2014, The Meadows is a really nice and clean community rec centre with a great set of amenities. The fitness centre is always busy, but there is still enough equipment and machines to go around. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a great variety of fitness and aquatic classes for all ages. A nice touch is the EPL branch on site. Great facilities for all ages and at a good price point in terms of daily passes and longer term memberships. read more

A HUGE recreation facility! It includes a pool, gym, the usual studios, and even an EPL library. There's a large amount of parking outside, but the lots are labelled weird and I'm never quite sure whether I'm allowed to be parking where I park... Luckily I've yet to get a ticket or anything. I mostly use the rec centres for their gym space and the gym here is huge! Usually there's a partition set up in the middle to separate the basketball and badminton folk, which is awesome. Watch out for the floors though -- they are super slippery. read more

(without a photo) See below: We are writing to let you know that we elected to remove your photo of The Meadows Community Recreation Centre from Yelp because it reflects more of a unique personal experience instead of being broadly representative of the business. I went to this gym the first time and noticed VERY FEW people wiping off the equipment after they used it. It also smelled funky because no one was wearing deodorant or seemed to shower. The day after I went to this gym I developed a rash on my upper chest from the dumbells touching my shirt. It became very itchy and bubbly (looked very disgusting.) So I went to the doctor and he determined it was Contact Dermatitis - caused from bacteria IE. dirty people using the equipment and not cleaning it after. He ended up giving me a prescription the make it go away -costing me more money. I want to let everyone know so they don't contract any diseases from this disgusting gym. Don't get me wrong - it's a nice facility but people need to clean the equipment to prevent diseases. I will NEVER be going to this DIRTY GYM again - save yourself the disgust and doctor visits - GO TO ANOTHER GYM!! read more

Very disappointed in our trip swimming recently. Myself and 4 well-behaved children(ages 9, 8, 5 and 4) went for a swim. The 4 and 5 year old stayed with me in the shallow children area with life jackets and the 2 older children wanted to play in the middle section to play basketball, no life jackets as they can swim just fine on their own. They were instructed (by me)to stay in that area or back to the childrens area or they could go to the water slide. Anyways, once we got there one of my boys were given the wrong wristband because everytime he moved the lifeguards were on him to "stay within arms reach" of me. Then they wanted to drag all 5 of us back out to the front desk to change one wristband. Then the 2 youngest children who were with me, barely up to their waist in water, were not allowd to leave my side...2 ft away and the lifeguards kept coming back. One would move to obviously get a toy and the LG would come back again, even though i am clearly watching where he is going, which was up to his knees in water to get a little boat. My GOD! Ive never been so harassed just by going swimming in my entire life! Seriously, the lifeguards came over to us at least 10 times in the first 30mins of being there. $30 i paid only to leave within the hour we were there because all of us, even the children, were really fed up. The 2 oldest boys couldnt play, they wanted to go to the water slide but then i had to drag the 2 youngest with me because apparently i had to be waiting at the bottom for a 9yo and 8yo!!!! Their are FAR TOO MANY areas to swim and it just makes for more confusing rules. The lifeguards have sticks up their asses. And quite honestly by the end of it, the last time the LG came back i rudely said "would you like me to chain them all together?" So Fed Up by this point. I was made to feel that my parenting skills were inadequate even though i kept constant watch and the 2 youngest were always near me. The 2 oldest even tried to make friends with 2 other boys around the same age but again, "go back to your mom" The worst part about all of this is that i felt targeted because their were 2 other children with their dad who were going up and down the water slide nearly the whole time we were there, but get this, those 2 children were wearing happy face wristbands(7 and under) and should have also had a parent waiting at the bottom of the slide but he was down in the whirlpool !! What the Heck?! The pool and facility itself is quite nice, its just a shame that we were not able to enjoy it. Thise lifequards need to lighten up, even just a little. People go there to enjoy themselves especially with kids. We will not be returning if this is what we have to face. read more

Absolutely love this facility for the drop in recreation programs. They have a great variety of different low to high intensity classes such as barre, tabatta and circuit training all at different convenient times. It can get quite crowded and parking can be a pain depending if you go peak hours. The pool can also be crowded with a lot of families/younger kids; so if lane swimming is your thing, might be a bit hectic. Great fascility for community events and sports. Attached EPL library. I was there for a Volleyball tournement. Staff were friendly and then have a big fascility with a lot of community programs. Friendly staff from entry to gym. It was pretty organized as they had community open gym with multiple sports going on at the same time and right at the time out Volleyball game was to occur, gym staff were already organized and ready to send away those that werent part of Volleyball and provide set up in Timely manner. Gym lockers are available on the outside of the gym and in the locker rooms, clean. The one thing that some community members who go and use the fascility on a daily basis is that they wish there was an internal coffee shop or some place for parents to sit while kids are in class :) Hours are 530-1030pm at the gym. it is meant for the community and be aware, there is a large lot in the beginning for staff parking and in public lot, quite a few Carpool spots. Dont park in those if your solo :) read more

The meadows rec centre is nice and cleAn. However, most of the Life guards were NOT so friendly.

While at the pool area in the men's change room there was people spitting all over the floor in the shower area and change room!!! Also the doors were broken for the change stalls and smelt like urine it was so disgusting!!!! I left this city facility feeling sick to my stomach as this is one of the newer facilities in the city and for it to have issues like this is absolutely horrible and a shame for the city read more

Love the free indoor outdoor skating... Free spray park in the summer. Friendly staff. Great library.. And they even have massage and physiotherapy .. Worth checking out. I recommend;) read more

Includes an Edmonton Public library. A good workaround for students, lots of study space available while you wait for the library to open. Rec center is open early & closed late adding flexibility to your schedule. The library is a new, attractive space with functional design; and has a fireplace which is great for Edmonton winters. read more

The facility is in ruin before it is a year old. Throughout the fall various sections have been shut down, the pool is a disaster and in not expected to be open till 2016-sometime. The annual pass I paid for was $649 and $400 for my grandson. I use it 3 times a week, i use the track and he enjoys the playground. We also used the pool when it was functioning. I was going to renew but I was told the pass was extended 3 months because of the mess the facility was in. That was fair I thought. So the next time I go I am denied access because my my pass expired. Apparently if you used the facility in the summer June, July,August you get an extension. although I paid for those three months I was not granted the extension. Why I was given wrong information The excuse" it is hard to train all the staff so they know what is going on" so as a result the staff are not trained very well and customer service is not their mandate. Rules are rules. Be sure to ask questions and clarify or you and your grand child will find yourself in the same disappointed situation. Sadly played Edmonton parks and recreation. read more
