I had a very disappointing experience at Argent Credit Union on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The address is 1901 Wal-Mart Way Midlothian, VA 23113. As a member of Call Federal Credit Union, I visited Argent because it operates as a service center. When I arrived, I asked the teller, Teresa, if they could cash a check, and she confirmed that they could. However, after she processed everything, she handed me a receipt showing that the check had been deposited and that the funds would not be available until May 30. I immediately asked why the check had been deposited instead of cashed, as I clearly stated I needed the funds immediately. Teresa simply looked at me and said, "Oh well," which I found extremely unprofessional, dismissive and very disrespectful. Another teller nearby witnessed the interaction but said nothing. The following day, I called to clarify the situation and was told that the check wouldn't be available until June 6--an even longer delay than originally stated. This miscommunication and lack of accountability were incredibly frustrating. To be honest, from the moment I walked in, I sensed an unwelcoming and racially charged atmosphere. As a Black customer, I did not feel treated with the same courtesy and respect that others seemed to receive. No one deserves to be dismissed or disrespected, especially in a professional financial setting. Because of this experience, I cannot recommend Argent Credit Union--particularly to people of color. I hope this review encourages the institution to re-evaluate their customer service approach and ensure all customers are treated fairly and respectfully. read more

I've been a member of Argent since they opened and was a member of DuPont Fiber Credit Union prior to that. (Argent was previously DuPont Fiber). The level of customer service has steadily declined over the past few years. I recently had an ATM card replaced. They sent the card and listed the wrong activation call number on it. When I called to speak with them about it, I was told they would have to issue another card (another 2 week wait) because a 3rd party service provider had placed a restriction on it. When I asked why the restriction was placed on it, no one in member services could answer my question. Unfortunately, I think Argent has lost its way. read more

I've been with this bank for quite a few years but have noticed in the last 5 years that the service continues to decline. There ATM's eat money and don't always calculate your deposited cash correctly. Their "fraud" department is awful! They continue to constantly freeze my account, cancel my debit card, claim there is a breech in security or decline my purchases when I have money in my account. They also charge an outrageous amount of overdraft fees where they shouldn't. The more I google, the more I see unhappy reviews and they continue to rank lower in lower in best credit unions to bank with. I'm taking my money elsewhere. read more

I've been a customer for 45 years, made a $3000 deposit and it magically disappeared, they have no recollection of where it went and aren't able to find a picture of me on that day, I feel as if they have some kind of conspiracy going on!!! read more

argent credit union is the worst bank you can get loans with. They always charge more money than they are supposed to. If you have a problem they will also take you money ane never reach out to you. Dont get any loans with them!! read more

I had an auto loan with Argent that was paid off by a dealership after I traded in the vehicle. The check wasn't received by Argent until after my 10 day grace period, so I had to make a payment of $655. Once the check was received, I was refunded $505.58 into my savings account. I attempted to transfer that amount to my primary credit union account (UVA Credit Union). The website would not allow me to do so, so I called the main phone number for help. The person I spoke with walked me through a process on the website that, I was assured, would result in the transfer of those funds to my UVA account from my Argent account via my debit card. Instead, this resulted in a $505.58 charge to my UVA debit card, not a refund. The person on the phone told me I must call UVA and have them stop payment, however UVA stated they could not stop payment on a debit card transaction. I called Argent back and that person (different from the one before) said she could not find the transaction and seemed to think it would be showing in my account, however it was taken out of my UVA account, not my argent account. She told me there was nothing she could do to refund my money, and only transferred me to the voicemail of her supervisor. Stay far away from this bank! Probably one of the more unprofessional institutions I've seen. Over the last 2 years I've had to call at least 3 times for issues with setting up my online accounts. I initially requested to have my account set up so that when my checking account was empty it would draw from my savings. I spoke with 3 different people about this and I ended up getting charged $180 in overdraft fees because the account was set up incorrectly. I tried to fight it as I had been under the impression that the accounts had been set up to prevent overdraft but I still had to pay $90. The last couple times I've been met with some incredibly rude staff. I spoke to someone in December and I was constantly interrupted while I tried to tell her what I needed help with. She was not at all helpful. Earlier today I tried calling several times and was hung up on several times (I'm not sure if this was a phone issue, the weather here was fine) before I was finally able to speak with another person. All the times I've called the representatives sound like they couldn't care less about their job. I've had enough of dealing with the lack of professionalism and help here. read more

If you want an financial institution that actually cares about their members when in a tough spot, stay away from Argent, esp the one on Walmart Way. I have been with them for over two years, have two forms of lending, and never late on anything. My pup is having some medical issues so I was trying to get funds from a car I had with equity to help pay for it. I had sold the car to Carmax, came in with the Carmax stub, and asked for as much as I could available. They said half in two days. I asked if I could at least get $1000 (not even a quarter of the check) to pay my vet bill the next day (even showed them the email for the appointment , AND the stub from Carmax). They said they couldn't give me anything because I didn't have higher balances (if I had larger balances I wouldn't need funds available). They were closer than my primary bank and I was on my lunch break so I came there. I pretty much just keep my lending there. I've worked in banking for 15 years. Both the big bank I worked at and especially the credit union I currently work for would release funds if they could verify the check. And trust me a CarMax check is easy to verify. And I was asked if I work in banking I should understand the check hold policy. I do, I understand that most credit unions are there to be there for their members. The check I bought in was rather large and trust I will not be keeping any of the funds at Argent after this. I also have a new car loan I was thinking of refinancing there since I had my other car... But nope!. Oh and I have a mortgage too..... Guess who wont be getting any of my future lending needs. read more

I've been banking with these guys for over 5 years and I'm consistently disappointed. Multiple times I've had money mysteriously disappear as well as appear into my account. Tellers count money incorrectly, aren't clear on bank policies, and seem to get really stressed out when multiple people are waiting in line. I literally had to save the member services number in my phone because I call so often to ask them questions about my account. Oftentimes, these customer service reps are attitude-y and rude. I would have given one star, but the employees are really nice so that makes up for everything else a little bit.
