I can't believe I am making this review. But after reading the horrific responses here from others who came to this hospital for help and were treated so inhumanely, I felt compelled to share my story. I was born at this hospital just over 58 years ago. I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy a couple of years after I was born. My father maintains the story that the birthing doctor that did the Caesarian Section was inebriated while performing the procedure. There were several complications during the birth. I was put back in repeatedly because the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck. But the procedure was botched on several levels. My father said I should have been put into an incubator / oxygen tent (born 2 - 3 weeks prematurely). But the doctor said that was not necessary and that I should be fine. No Lawsuit ever transpired as probably should have. My Health Care costs were over $700,000 growing up and continue today as related to my disability Shortly after birth, I was diagnosed as a spastic Cerebral Palsy quadriplegic severely affecting both legs and my right arm. I had 8 surgeries before the time I was 16 years old, including my last 4 at Duke University. It took years of Physical Therapy and Operations for me to finally walk and get out of a wheelchair and let go of leg braces and arm crutches. I have spent a life of fighting Cerebral Palsy only to walk with a noticeable limp 1 - 2 decades later. Today, I am back using arm crutches and deal with a myriad of health and physical complications related directly and indirectly to CP. My life has been pure drudgery and frustration that may have been directly related to the incompetence of the birthing doctor and staff. I imagine there are many, many more like me. But if you sue the Hospital / Doctor and receive any form of settlement, you sign an NDA stating that you will never talk about your personal experience or incompetence of Doctor / Staff / Hospital in any way. I / my parents never signed such a document. No settlement. No NDA. This is my TRUE and CORRECT Statement of my (and my parent's) experience with the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. While I cannot state with 100% certainty that this Hospital "caused" my Cerebral Palsy, we have no reason to believe that they should have not taken more precautions during and after my birth. My father maintained till his death that the Doctor, Staff and Hospital should have and could have done more. When I was finally properly diagnosed, there was little doubt that my Developmental Disability led back to the day(s) of my birth. Stay away from this Hospital. It appears it has not improved since I was born there in 1967!! How appalling!! Reading some of these reviews, you would have better Health Care given at an Auto Center served by a competent Certified Auto Mechanic!! Americans deserve better Health Care. There is NO EXCUSE for Overpriced / Unaffordable Health Care with under-served, abysmal, low-quality care in 2026!! After all of this time, with this many complaints and concerns, this Hospital should just shut down!! It appears to be far more of a Public Liability than a TRUE Health Care Facility!! read more

Second visit here with a broken back and was left sitting again today for 6 hours in the waiting area after my Xray they took patients that came in hours after me and were all checked out as I sat there in pain. I wouldn't take my dog here much less anyone I cared about. They treat everyone like a drug addict when they're looking at your X-rays and can see all your prescription history and still leave you to suffer it's ridiculous. read more

Drive to Charleston if you need medical care and DO NOT come here. Dr. Rahim is absolutely terrible. Does rounds at 4am so that family members aren't there to "bother" him and is impossibly difficult to communicate with. His bedside manner is poor. He truly only cares about making money. The poor nurses working with him know just how terrible he is and they are stuck dealing with upset patients that aren't getting proper care or communication. RUN from this place. read more

Took my daughter in to get checked down because she was abused by her father to have an x-ray and an MRI that was signed off by her pediatrician. We had to tell a story four different times which I was completely fine with. And they were no longer going to Bill for the MRI unless it's an urgent request and the staff members that explained it to me were very nice and helpful. But we ended up leaving because Night Shift came in Dr. Stephens he knew the story because everyone else said, let him in on it and he was very rude and very abrupt. You made my daughter jump she shut down immediately and would not tell him the and I had to tell him a story then he kept interrupting me numerous times wouldn't let me finish what I was trying to say, and I had to keep starting over to be more upset that her pediatrician had sent us in for an MRI. He did a quick exam on my and then told me he was only going to x-ray from the last incident, even though my daughter had been physically abused for the past three years by her father, he was x-ray the left elbow, which already been x-rayed my daughter who is eight years old shut down mentally I asked her after he left what was wrong? She said he scared me. I asked her if she wanted him to do the x-ray and read it. She said no she needs to leave so we did. I explained to the Night Shift nurse Riley what happened and he was very nice and apologetic. He understood my daughter was physically abused for the past three years by the man that she should've trusted the most for this man to come in and scare the way he talk to her and me both was completely unacceptable, especially being in the fact that he's a man and he should've had a little bit more courtesy. He didn't even apologize when we were leaving. I will take my daughter this weekend to Raleigh General Hospital to get checked out had to MRI and x-ray. I won't be back. The man was very rude and he should not be around children. read more

drove 1 1/2 hours to my sons MRI appointment . 2 hours past my sons appointment time, a nurse comes out and tells up the tech is on her way back to the hospital if we want to stay and wait, like we had a choice at this point. other than my son waiting another wk + to get help! This probably the worst place to come in an emergency or to just visit a patient. No sign for check-in and once you do find it you better know why you are hear. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Everyone has a bitch attitude. read more

My mother was released from this hospital in such a bad state of health, she had to be taken to another medical facility in less than 24 hours of being released. I pray that my mother never has to return to this hospital. read more

When arriving at the hospital to check my mother-in-law in there was a man who immediately said sign in and wait. So we did. There was 4 people that were already in the waiting room when we arrived. By the way we checked in a 630 pm. After 5 hours sitting in the waiting room we finally get called back for a room. When trying to explain to the doctor what all was going on the doctor interrupted me stating that all she needed was medicine and he was going to send her home after explaining that she was mentally ill and needed help. She was urinating all over herself, not sleeping at all due to fears, standing so long that her feet would swell because of not being able to sit down due to her ocd which is so bad that she can not touch anything at all except what clothing is on her. She is sleeping in her apartment with the door open. This is just a few things she does. He is wanting to send her home. When she and I am asking for help, her asking for mental help that only a hospital can give her or recommend for her to be admitted. Now it is 1230 am. We still have not heard anything from this doctor. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone who is in need of desperate attention. read more

This review is dedicated to Dr. Z's fabulous Physician Assistant, Chanda Hale. My mother was admitted and Chanda was one of the providers on staff. She is very professional and her interaction with my family and answering our questions were well appreciated. She is a very bright individual, and has a smile that is infectious! She helped ease our stress and was there whenever we had any questions, big or small. I wish she would be my provider, honestly! Why can't there be more of her?
