Had to go to RGH a few times this year for ER. Check in, immediacy of care/ concern for medical issue was excellent, triage, labs taken and issue taken care of in a couple of hours. Reviews from 4-7 years ago are no longer valid. RGH Leadership has done much to bring the ER care up to a level that is much better than years ago.​​ IMO. read more

Experienc was so bad I have signed a DNR and have decieded I will never go to another hospital. Some of the nurses were good, but most that i had were sadistic liars. Would ghost you if you rang you bell and needed something too often. I was near the nurse station and they kept waking me up by taking too loud, but then coming in my room telling I need to sleep. when i said i could if the nurse station would keep it down, the nurse mockingly said I have no idea what you are talking about. I did not sleep for 3 days They spread lies on me and would with hold pain meds for 2.5 hours. they would yell at me angrily . ..if you report them the head nurse just agrees with them. an aid lied to her nurse about me and the nurse berated me wrongfully. Even on discharge the same nurse started angrily berating me again to the point i asked my husband if we could call the police. I was totally helpless in the situation; she kept accusing me and telling me off about the aid's lies , when i was totally innocent. It was horrible. my bld pressure was already too high. i kept begging her to stop and that seemed to fuel her wicked behavior toward me. read more

My husband is almost 80 years old. He has a heart condition. He had shortness of breath, chest pains, rapid heartbeat, etc. He went to the ER at Raleigh General Hospital and was 'cared' for by Jean Fernandez MD. He received decent care until the doctor was getting ready to release my husband. I asked the Dr if he would prescribe my husband a FEW Valium to help with his stress levels. He refused, and the way he refused was offensive. He instead prescribed my husband and antihistamine for his stress. This was a blatant disregard for my husband's wellbeing in my opinion. If you see this doctor I pray you don't need anything that is a controlled substance because you may have trouble getting any. It doesn't seem to matter to them if you really need them or not. read more

I am the daughter of Angelia Hardin. My name is Ashlea. My mother was recently transfered here from a rehabilitation center for respiratory issues (pneumonia). My mother was having difficulty breathing, and they completed an X-ray. She was there for two days and they discharged her. Prior to discharging her, they were supposed to complete another x-ray. When my mother got home, she was readmitted to her local hospital and was placed in ICU for a collapsed lung. With that being said, this tells me she was not medically stable to be discharged. The quality of care in the hills of West Virginia are a disgrace. She almost died. Thank you for not assessing your patients thoroughly. read more

I came to ER because of my side hurting, they did all tests fast, but never got to see a doctor after sitting for over 3 hours. I checked myself out and left with very high blood pressure due to my anger with doctor never showing and test results not back. I would not recommend this hospital at all. read more

I'm in the emergency room for a follow up. I only need my second rabies shot. I've been waiting over an hour and a half. It's a shot that they told me on my first visit would be a quick in and out. If 1 1/2 hours is quick, I'd hate to see what slow would be. I would avoid this place if at all possible. read more

I went to RGH after my doctor's office called and said that the blood test (D-Dimer) had come back elevated at a level of 1.9. This is an indication of possible blood clots. I was short of breath and on 2 liters of 02. The registration lady, nurses and doctor were really nice. I waited for hours for blood work and a CTA scan. I have never in my life had floor RN's draw blood! No one from the lab came to do these blood draws. When the blood work finally came through and I was taken for the scan the CT room was FILTHY! I was afraid to step from the wheelchair to the table the floor was so dirty. You could see where liquids had been spilt and never cleaned up, trash on the floor and generally dirty all over. It was a mess. The room that I was in in the ED was also dirty. Nothing looked like it had ever been cleaned or mopped. It was disgusting! I will never go to this hospital again. Do not go there if you are expecting a clean hospital or floor RN nurses that do blood draws instead of a lab tech. read more

I've been here 8 days and I can't begin to tell you how absolutely frustrated I am. Just to make this short. They told me they were releasing me today last night okay... it's 4:30 right now. I have had the okay to be released from all doctors at noon. I am waiting on the infectious disease doctor (who barely even talks anyway) since then. Why? Idk but he KNOWS I am trying to be released and I still have yet to see him. I have never in my life seen something so absolutely ridiculous. And this place is known for this kind of thing. I was recently hospitalized for Covid pneumonia for a week and I'm relatively sure that the care I received is equal or less than a third world country. Garbage was allowed to overflow, roommate potty chair not emptied for 2.5 days. 4th floor room with no AC. Which I found out has been broken 1year!!! Imagine trying to breathe in this atmosphere. Also was allowed to fall in ER and took almost 1 hr to get MYSELF up and into a chair!!!! Will return to this hospital when I am dead or unconscious!! read more

Last October I visited the ER and was admitted after over a 5 hour wait. It was during Covid so my 5 family members were waiting in the parking lot. They were given no information without asking. My first several days there was not an available bed for me. I was shuffled from cot to cot. Family and loved ones calling to check on me were given no access to speak to me. Repeatedly the nursing staff said I was all alone with no family, absolutely not the case. I had never been in a hospital so maybe my review is too critical but I felt neglected. I would ask to use a phone and was told no. When I needed a rest room I would alert the staff at least an hour in advance. Generally after an hour and a half, at the least, a nurse would come to help me. With the exception of two nurses everyone treated me as though I were annoying them. I have multiple scars from the IVs that were placed. Previously I have had IVs but was never scarred. My bed alarm was not working properly so every time I moved it went off. This also annoyed the staff, never mind me who needed sleep. For 2 days a neighboring patient cried, screamed, argued threatened to murder others plus themself and yelled day and night. It was very disconcerting as I was immobile and if this person could live up to their threats I was in grave danger. Despite the walls this person sounded as though they were next to me. This person did have 2 patient advocates as they referred to one person as Mom and the other by name. The staff yelled back at the person lots. I asked two separate nurses if the patient would be moved for our rest and safety but was told no. Never once did a Dr or nurse discuss any diagnosis, treatment or goals. Rarely the dry dry erase board was updated in my room. The goal section was always blank. The date and staff names were almost always wrong. My illness caused me to lose much control of my hands and feet. The staff was aware of this but would serve me food or drink without help. When I requested help cutting a piece of ham I was told to figure it out. I generally spilled everything I touched, mostly on myself. I would then get to sit for hours covered in food or beverage. I am very lactose intolerant and told anyone who crossed my path. Most of the food was with milk or cheese so if I could have picked it up and made it to my mouth I would have been sicker. At one point I was so hungry I slide a piece of bacon on my plate to the edge of the table and licked it into my mouth. As for PT/OT there was one therapist that attempted to help me. Unfortunately at that time my shoes were unavailable so they provided me with grip bottom socks. They were at least two sizes too large. Also the therapist did not use a gate belt or any device to aid my standing or walking. The socks fell off twice tripping me once while trying to walk. I was 84 pounds but the petite therapist could not get me up. I crawled to my bed before a nurse arrived to help the therapist. That was my only therapy session. Not that this is that big a deal but all the cash in my purse was gone when I received it to leave. Also two gift boxes of chocolate I had for a gift for someone were gone. I gladly would have given any of that for help with sips of water so no real loss except my care. In the event I am ever faced with entering a hospital I will fight it. I still have nightmares and panic attacks reliving the experience. If you are I'll in Beckley, WV go to Charleston for medical care. read more

In and out of the ER pretty quick, though my issue was minor. I would have went to MedExpress instead of bothering an already busy ER if they were open. All these people leaving negative reviews don't consider that they are severely understaffed, and doing the best with what they have. Despite the staffing issues they face, they still come in there every day and attempt to provide you all the best medical care possible. I know it's been especially stressful on them lately, considering COVID. Anyone complaining about the hospital policies on visitation during COVID, which have been lifted, are acting like children. read more

I wouldn't recommend going to this hospital. The Sherman Sizemore lawsuit is a big reason. Dr. Bruce Cannon failed to give anesthesia to Sherman Sizemore and for 16 minutes he was operated on without any pain medicine. After the doctor's realized Sherman was still awake, they quickly gave him pain medicine followed by Midazolam so Sherman would forget about the incident so he wouldn't sue. My mother was hospitalized with an acute issue that would ultimately need surgery for repair. When I arrived she was in the Emergency dept. Dr. Herbig, anesthesia, was at her bedside collecting her history. He was so personable, professional, and compassionate that my mom agreed to GI procedure that night, even though she knew there were risks with her airway. She felt very comfortable with him. Dr. Dolganiuc, GI, and Dr. O, surgery, also came to see her in the ED and discuss her plan of care. Once again, we felt so comfortable with their compassion and expertise, it was easy to make the decision to go ahead with the recommended procedure. After being moved to SICU, Dr. D. and Dr. O. came by frequently to check on her, make recommendations, and fill us in on what to expect. They were honest and informative and really put us all at ease. The SICU staff were amazing as well. Every nurse that cared for my mom was on top of his/her game. They were very welcoming to me, allowing me to stay late and wait for the procedure to be done. They went out of their way to make me as comfortable as they made her...even ordering dinner for us both one night. So thoughtful and kind. I will say the same for the OR and Endo teams. They took me with mom to the OR for her procedure and made sure any questions my mom or I had were answered. Dr. Herbig arrived and remembered us from hours ealier like we were old friends. It makes a difference. Ultimately my mom was not a candidate for surgery and would go home on hospice. The trasition from curative care to comfort care was seemless. The nursing staff and hospice nurse were so attentive until we got mom back to her assisted living where she wanted to be with her family and friends. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. Thank you to all who were a part of my mom's care team. We fee so fortunate to have had you there with us. read more

The Cath Lab responded quickly to save my husband's life. I want to thank Dr. Rashid for the great job he did and his communication with me. I have been trying to obtain my medical records for over 2 weeks now (wife tried for me for 1 week prior to this). No one will answer the phone or reply to numerous messages. I did have a Sarah return my 4th voicemail and she said she would email me the release form but still waiting and left another voicemail. I even tried contacting the ethics and compliance office. They are even better. The phone rings about 12 times and then it just hangs up on you. In my opinion, you are absolutely stupid to go to this hospital. They do not care about your needs. Maybe I should call and tell them I need to pay a bill. I bet I will get a return call then. read more

I came to RGH on Wednesday December 4th with high fever and severe chills. I sat in the waiting room for 4 1/4 hrs before getting triaged and another 2 1/2 before getting called to a room. They diagnosed a severe UTI admitted me for 2 days of antibiotics. I have a picc line so Thursday they said I needed a surgical consult to see if it needed changed. It's now 2 Monday afternoon and i have yet to see a sugical consult and theyre telling me thats all thsts keeping me here. It is ridiculous read more

This hospital is as slow as molasses in the winter! I went to ER by way of ambulance with chest pains at 1am. They decided to admit me, altho I wasn't informed of this until I set in an ER bed for over 4 hours with no communication or contact what so ever with any staff! I waited from around 2am until 6:45 am before a doctor or nurse even came in the room to check on me, speak to me or even walk by and look at me! When they did finally get me in a room it was after 8am!! I understand hospitals get busy and hectic but this is unacceptable! read more

This is the worst hospital. My elderly mother had to sit in the operating room waiting for 6 hours because the stupid hospital planned a surgery without the right tools. So they ordered the tool on the day of her surgery and she had to wait in the operating room all day without food, water or visitors. Following a very bad and traumatic car accident, misread my husband's xray (he had a broken fibula, they said he broke his TIBIA, huge difference folks), put him in the crappiest most unsupportive foot boot I've ever seen, and sent him on his way with ZERO pain control whatsoever. This was a head on collision, y'all. I had to take him to the ER in the town where we live the next morning because he ached all over. Pathetic standard of care! Appalling, really. And despite being told that he was stationed in another city but got in the accident while passing through Beckley, they scheduled all of his follow up care appointments in Beckley. Like we were gonna drive 3 hours for that. Foolish. read more

I went to the emergency room twice when I had my kidney stone. Both visits were great. They got me in quickly and diagnosed my stone. They gave me medicine for pain and nausea. I'm glad the emergency room staff was there when I needed them. read more

I had to have a procedure at Raleigh General this morning. My Stomach physician goes there. Jeannie was with me{my wife} so we both have problems with walking so I parked in the rear, 2 handicap spots were taken,I had parked in this space in the past and no problem. Parking sticker displayed. She has had trouble with Balance and walking and depends on me a lot to help her. I learned up on the conclusion of my procedure that Jeannie had to move the car out front in a open space. I was beyond pissed and thank full to the nurses on that floor seeing the problems see was having and took us out by wheelchair. Would the "administration get off their collective ass , put patient safety first and Profits second for a change. The security people are "simple". She had just fallen at Raleigh General and the nurses were wonderful. read more

This is the worst hospital i have ever been too they single handedly took my mother n laws life it was one bad surgery and one mess up after another until her recent visit where she went in and they said she had pneumonia in both lungs she was up until this point an 8 year survivor of breast cancer they wanted to test her lungs to make sure it wasnt cancer but told us no that it wouldnt matter because it was the same treatment for both which ive never heard of but instead of treating her for something they treated her for nothing and sent her home one oxygen 5 days later we have to rush her back because she cant breath cant eat cant stand nothing and was told her pneumonia had worsen to the point of no treatment can help and she passed away the next day and they we were told in a attempt to cover there butts that she had diseases that she never had or was mentioned until her death so if u want my review NEAVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL because they dont care who the kill read more
