This is an iconic kosher food place in the heart of the jewish krakow. Listen, it isn't perfect but it is unique and has a special quality. Near the old temple with a cute interior and staff that is reasonably helpful. They could be a bit more attentive. Maybe this deserves three stars, but the unique cuisine won me over. I had a comfort food Jewish meal. Matzah ball soup that was tasty and authentic. Gefilte fish that was the real deal and wonderful chopped liver with egg. I would definitely make this a visit if in krakow. read more

The worst meal we ever had!!! We ordered what our server recommended as the "most popular" dishes and it was truly disgusting. I had the chicken liver stuffed in goose necks. I was trying to be open minded and he insisted this is the most popular dish. I could not even swallow one bite.. the taste and smell were horrific. Food was meh. We traveled with a group and had a shabbat dinner after services. The challah was incredible, but the rest of the meal was just okay. They did not season any of the food and the brisket? Was flavorless and the salmon was a bit overcooked. I'm not sure if it would be different if we werent in a large group. read more

I had a fun dinner experience at Ariel :) The highlight of the night would be the live band performance during our dessert session. Service was great. VEGGIE TOMATO SOUP (3/5) Good mix of broth and veggie portion. Could be less salty. GRILLED CHICKEN, POTATO & SAUERKRAUT (3.5/5) The chicken was surprisingly very juicy! Would've preferred it more if they added more sauce because the potatoes were kind of dry. I thought the portion was too little at first, but filled us up after we kept eating haha. APPLE PIE (3.5/5) It would be nice if this came warm. It was cold! But the taste is great. + stars goes to the live performance we had during desserts. I haven't eaten at another Jewish restaurant so I have no comparison except to other restaurants I've eaten at and I am a foodie so there have been a lot. Our Uber driver suggested Ariel, we had no idea what to expect. The waiter was so nice and seated us right away. He told us Ariel is the oldest Jewish restaurant in the ghetto area. The table decorations were so pretty and I noticed quite a few local Jews were dining here so I figured it must be ok. I ordered the beef with vegetables soup that is made with honey & cinnamon - the flavor was so delicious!! My friend got the matza ball soup, I tried it and found it to be bland. I ordered the lamb with vegetables and my friend got the chicken stuffed liver in goose neck. Both dishes were very well made. My friend tried the apple crepes and I tried the apple cake, both were very good! I don't know if this is a touristy place or not but I enjoyed my meal. The decorations were so cute! The waiter was very personable until the end as he slowed down once it got busy. We tried an Israel wine that was pretty good. read more

Stopped for dinner in the Jewish District. We were drawn in by the spacious outside dining area. Started with the Jewish dumpling, not bad, interesting. Next soup, matzah. Typically prepared and exactly what I was expecting. For dinner we had the braised beef and jewish stew. Not very impressed with either. Potato pancakes recommended by the server, were nothing special Maybe this is how it should be? We expected the stew to be "stewy", i.e. with some actual liquid. The beef was tender but dry. Didn't stay for dessert. Service was excellent and accomodating. The venue perfect. Wish the food was more satisfying. read more

This place is really good. We went to Auschwitz today and decided to keep the theme going by heading Karzimierz. We found this gem of a restaurant. We sat outside under the umbrellas. We were immediately greeted by a friendly waiter. We ordered golumpki (stuffed cabbage), salads and potato pancakes.. and of course beer. Meal was great. For everyrhing it was 110pln. We went to Ariel for dinner on our first nite in Poland - and wow - we were surprised!!! Some of us had been a little concerned that we would not have the taste for Polish cuisine - but were we wrong!!! The food we had was delicious. Our waiter was very friendly, and encouraged us to try all of the Polish names/pronunciations/social language. Unfortunately, because we didn't book - we had to make do with a table inside rather than in the beautiful gardens. So I suggest you do book (even if earlier that same day) - as the atmosphere outdoors is better than indoors! It is one of the more expensive restaurants in the city - but well worth it! read more

On 06April I visited Krakow from LA. When I was a little girl my both parents use to take me to this "lovely" place both my parents past away and I wanted to honor their memory in this restaurant and show my husband when I lived etc just a nostalgia,many people knew my dad very well in jewish community in Poland. That day I was so excited to go there after 15 years not leaving in Poland. It was raining day,this guy"burak" standing at the door and said to my polish friend it full come avk tomorrow it was 1930.. he was so rude blocking the door wont let us even see it...my friend ask if we can seat outside. He said, yelling sure with anger took all the stuff from the table. My husband got so upset and didn't want to stay just because of his behavior, everywhere we went in Kazimierz, people are outside inviting guests to dine with them and at Ariel pushing us away. I was very sad evening after 15 years I had a chance to visit Poland and honor my parents and now I have bad memories. Not sure who is the owner now,but I recommend you to hire people who are customer oriented and even it will be a good idea that they will tolerate jewish people!!!! read more

I thought this was a good restaurant. The decor is beautiful, very much like a traditional Jewish home, very "old world." the art on the wall is very Jewish, and so is the music, so they've got the atmosphere just right. BUT note well, Ariel is NOT kosher, just Jewish style. A kosher restaurant would not serve both meat and dairy. The waiter sold me on the Zupa Berdyczowska (Berdytchov soup) which contains beef, vegetables, honey, and cinnamon. It was really great. The meat was very tender, like in a good pot roast. This could be your main meal and you could get latkes or something else on the side. I then had the cholent, which was also excellent and recommendable. As an American I expect bread and table water. These are not apparently included in Poland, so maybe it's wrong of me to expect them. Here, you order water and they serve it to you in a bottle and charge you for it. That's the way it is, get used to it. I did not want dessert after such a filling meal but I did want an after dinner drink. I mentioned what I wanted and was offered what I was told was an herbal liqueur. What it was was krupnik, a spiced honey brandy or vodka. It was really good and I recommend it too. What I didn't like was feeling that they were pushing or selling me on entering and ordering. Then, when I wanted to finish up and leave no one was there and I had to walk up to the front and ask for my bill. I waited a pretty long time. I'd say the service is inattentive once they have your business. I will say that the waiter did make good suggestions and he (or someone else) promptly admitted when asked that the restaurant was not kosher. (The fact that I figured that out impressed another diner.) The prices could be on the high side, I don't know, this is a pretty classy place, and the food is good. All in all, I recommend it, especially for a couple or a group wanting a leisurely meal and traditional old world Jewish food in a place with an appropriate atmosphere. I would return. read more

I had my 1.5 year old daughter with me with wife and grandparents. The service was a bit slow and they had no high chair for my daughter. However the turkey steak(it was seasoned extremely well)was amazing. It was also kosher and didn't have to worry about any pork etc... everyone at the table gave raving reviews about the goose over cherries, turkey over cranberries (it was quite soft), the fish soup was also great.
