I moved to Astoria couple of years ago. A little before the pandemic started. It has been hard to find therapy everywhere is either booked for few months or they don't take my insurance. thankfully I found Aristotles. I called here to make an appointment for in person therapy but they told me that they are fully booked for at least a month. However the front desk was very accommodating by offering me a sooner appointment via Telehealth for the time being. They also put me on their waitlist for in-person therapy. I have been talking to a therapist over the phone for about a month and I do feel like my anxiety has gotten a lot better. Just the other day someone from the front desk called me to inform me that there is an open spot for in person and asked if I was still interested in coming in person. read more

I ll be very honest because I rarely leave bad reviews anywhere. I ve been here on and off for 5 years now and no complaints about the therapists I have had. I ve learned to deal with some unprofessional s front desk in the past (young or inexperienced)but this time it really went on a different level. I ve called to make an appointment for a new therapist few weeks ago where I precisely ask if the one that I would have tried had some experience. I ve been told over the phone by this guy named ALDO , he is usually seats at the first corner of the desk, that absolutely yes, she was coming from another place and she had experience. (I did not ask him to disclose any infos about this person, only if she had experience as therapist ) and he reassured me that yes she did. Come to the appointment and the therapist just told me that this was her first job, fresh out of school. Now: It's not only the lie I ve been told but also the time I wasted,since I specifically made sure of that in my request. Otherwise I would have picked another therapist to begin with. I confronted ALDO and he denied. From then on, he keeps doesn't acknowledge me when I get there, he doesn't call the therapist when I get there, which is so unprofessional in many ways. Today I had my appointment at noon and he called the therapist at 12.15 to let her know I was there. That was confirmed by my therapist who said he never let her know that I was there at noon and she was waiting for me since I was her first appointment of the day. I recorded the conversation and time I got there (noon) and he said he told her (not true) After 15 minutes,while I was still there waiting,my therapist got his call for the first time. Its all documented so in case he wants to deny it again.(for personal purpose and protect myself) In a place where we should find peace we can't deal with this type of behavior. I believe that who responds to the reviews is the front desk itself so the reply doesn't really matter..only helps making people aware of the situation and person they might encounter at the front. I m trying to get in contact with Vaia (the owner) personally and the manager Sharon to see if this behavior can stop because it's ridiculous now, since I do go in once a week and love my therapist and I need to escalate this to them. read more

She seemed okay at first but soon I realized that my therapy would consist of filling out a paper for 20 minutes about how I felt and then the remaining 10 minutes talking about what I can do to fix my anxiety. This place is horrible. Do not go here. During a time of acute mental health crisis, I was faced with a horribly run business where it was impossible to actually speak to the psychiatrist. She was never available. I went in for adhd testing, and I was forced to do additional testing to get the results. I was not told originally I would need to do this extra testing to be able to speak to the psychiatrist. When I finally received a call from Dr. Vaia on the phone (months after my testing was completed) and expressed my concerns for the extremely unhelpful front desk /inability to schedule appointments or speak to anyone, she started complaining to ME about her staff and talking about her own mental health and how hard it is. It was extremely unprofessional. It is scary that places like this exist and are out there "helping" people with such horrible management. I do not even trust that these tests were legitimate after experiencing how this place is run/not run. During a time I really needed mental health/psychological support, instead this place added on substantial extra stress due to their incompetence. I had to follow up incessantly to get results or speak to the doctor. Multiple times, my appointment was rescheduled with 0 communication and when I tried to call for information, I could not get through. It truly was a horrible experience that worsened my mental health at the time. People go here because it is one of the few neuropsych testing places covered by medicaid. It is unfortunate that there are so few options for people who cannot afford $1000 + testing. read more

I went for talk therapy services. The staff are idiots. The therapist was very unprofessional and PSYCHO! BEWARE!

A horrid experience! Don't go down the same path I've traveled! The text of my email to Aristotle Psychological describes the experience: I was set for a virtual appointment on Tuesday, August 31st. I took a day off so that I could make time for the appointment. From there, it goes terribly wrong... I never received a Zoom link. At 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment, I called and was told that you weren't sure if the therapist was seeing patients that day, but that you would call me back. I never received a call from you. Three or fours days later, I tried again. You gave me an appointment for1PM on Labor Day. I was happy with this appointment because it meant no time away from work. Labor Day arrives and 30 minutes before my appointment I didn't have a Zoom link. I emailed and I called you but your voice mail says that you are closed. The Labor Day time slot came and went. I've never experienced such an egregiously low level of organization and customer service. Thanks for providing nothing more than a stressful experience. read more

This is the worst place to schedule any type of treatment or evaluation. The staff is unorganized and unprofessional. The staff is oblivious about their job functions or what takes place on a daily basis. Good luck trying to get in touch with anyone when you need to schedule an appointment. I was placed on hold without being told. I ended up hanging up to try to schedule an appointment elsewhere. Unfortunately, I couldn't get through. I called back to schedule a new appointment for clearance. The receptionist was a ball of confusion. I asked to book an appointment for clearance on the following Saturday, October 27th. The receptionist said, "You mean October 20th?" I thought to myself what part of "following" was misunderstood? I clarified what day I wanted once more. Be careful when scheduling appointments because they love to say one thing and then switch it to another day and time. I specifically made my appointment for 11:45am on Saturday 10/27/18. I received a call on Thursday 10/25/18 to confirm my appointment for 1pm on Saturday 10/27/18. The receptionist found out rather quickly that I'm not one to fall for the b.s. There are numerous reviews about switching initial booked appointments to another date/time. I told the receptionist there is no way I'm coming in for 1pm when I booked the appointment for 11:45am a week ago. She cut me off immediately and stated, "Oh looks like there's a cancellation for 10:45am can you make it?" You know damn well I can. The doctor gave me specific directions which I provided to the receptionist. Upon finishing my sentence she looked at me with the most baffled look which made me mimic the same face she made. Unsure of why she questioned me about what the doctor told me, I simply asked her do you want to call the doctor? She said oh no he's with a patient. Lazy office. No one knows what they are doing at this office. A very unprofessional office. They never pick up the phone and when they do they have an attitude on the phone, like you're bothering them. It's uncomfortable. They overbook appts and call you several times to change /make appts. It's a hot mess! The services themselves are amateur. They served me no resolution or nothing to help manage my ADD/ADHD. This office Oh and if you ask for a copy of the session reports or to send over records to the dr. get ready to wait 10 days. During the pandemic it was really hard to find a in person mental health counseling for my younger brother. Aristotle was very responsive to my inquiry on their hours of operations and their services. My brother really likes his counselor and sees him regularly. He is improving and getting better and we have been recommending Aristotles to all our family and friends. Overall our experience was great and we also had a great experience with also their management who are always very accommodating. read more

Dr Vaia Delidimitropulu is an incompetent doctor. While I understand this is a business , they don't care about the patients . They just want money and will try to diagnose you with anything to keep coming back . I am a medical student and I am very aware of what's going on and the terminology. This place is a complete scam . While I was there for a little anxiety I was having , they kept pushing for more tests and kept trying to diagnose me with other illnesses so they can make more money . I give this place another year before they go out of complete business. This was a complete waste of my time, and the audacity to try disrespect my intelligence as a Medical student . I've been to this facility a few years back for therapy and recently needed some paperwork, regarding my past therapy sessions, filled out for employment purposes. My employer required me to send over the paperwork for them to fill out, sign and fax out to my employer. The paper CLEARLY stated that NO EVALUATION WAS REQUIRED and only information on past sessions were needed. I initially spoke with the supervisor Sharon who informed me I would have to come in for a session with my former LMHC. I was a little confused considering the questions were all stated in the past tense. I mentioned that the psychologist who evaluated me said this was not necessary. She insisted and said they wouldn't be able to fill it out without a session so I agreed to a session apprehensively. After answering several questions during the session she let me know she would have to speak with the office about the paperwork. Two weeks went by and I contacted them with no resolve. She still hadn't spoken to the office and I was running out of time. Sharon finally called me to let me know I would need several more sessions for them to fax out the papers. I tried to contact the psychologist who interviewed me but he didn't get back to me in time. Her and I couldn't find a solution over the phone, so I decided to go to the office to discuss it with her because I was furious at this point. She wouldn't even come down to speak with me about the issue, still ignoring the fact that I didn't need to be evaluated while still trying to enforce some bs policy. Instead, she sent her pet Anthony back and forth to reverberate this same information instead of coming down to speak with me in person like a professional. Finally, they suddenly "changed their mind" about sending out the paperwork and told me they would email me a fax confirmation just to get me out of the office. Paperwork was never sent. I also didn't appreciate the fact that this "policy" claim was most likely an opportunity to squeeze money out of me. There is a possibility that I lost my employment opportunity because of this. I can't imagine how they would treat a single mother in need of employment. Absolutely disgraceful. read more

THIS FACILITY IS NOTHING MORE THAN A MEDICAID AND MEDICARE MERRY-GO-ROUND. I speak only from my own personal experience, having made an attempt for more than a few years to get the care that I needed only to have a person I started with leave because of the below standard wages and bad treatment by the owner of the facility who cares only about making money. The owner of this facility is defensive, argumentative and never has accepted responsibility for anything that goes wrong in the facility, something that happens quite often. This owner takes advantage of the fact that most people who come to this facility are non-white, Hispanic or other nationalities, individuals who are on Medicaid and need help and are afraid to speak up for fear of consequences when they are left waiting for their therapist to show up sometimes 1 to 2 hours late or to arrive or not have them show up at all and no one has bothered to call to let them know. This has also been my personal experience. Regarding the actual care, my first therapist spent more time talking about her problems than mine and most of the time was 45 minutes late, making excuses each time. When I finally did switch therapists and got someone that actually cared about me, just as we were getting to the point where I felt like I was making progress she wound up leaving because she was able to do much better elsewhere. I had since found out after she left because the therapists at this facility get paid $20 an hour for their time. I make more than that walking dogs. Against this all comes back to the owner who cares about nothing, except the money. There is much I can share with all of you readers out there, but here is the most important bottom line to remember. If you are in need of good care for yourself or a loved one, don't go to this facility. You will be sadly disappointed! read more

This is the Worst experience in all my life. I don't even know where to begin they kept calling me at the very last minute to reschedule my appointment saying the doctor is busy. I really needed to see a doctor and I traveled over a hour for them to call me 5 minutes before my appointment. This happened 3 times and they didn't even try to get me in anytime soon when they knew it was urgent. When I finally did get an appointment I waited in the waiting area for 3 hours when I asked if everything was okay after waiting so long they became extremely rude and started shouting that I'm not the only patient in the world. When I finally got to see the doctor it was like she didn't want to be there she kept answering her cellphone and didn't even excuse herself she just started screaming at her lover on the phone as if I wasn't even there. After seeing that I realized the doctor can't help me if she can't even help herself. I don't even know how Dr. Vaia even has a license to practice medicine. read more

My family had a very bad experience at Aristotle. My child really needed support and was in crisis. They gave her a student therapist and didn't even tell us they were not licensed or certified. The appointments would be canceled without warning and the time would be changed without any calls. We showed up after confirming appointments in advance only to see that there wasn't anything on the schedule and the "therapist" was booked for the entire month. The icing on the cake is when the student said without warning, that the final session was that day, then asked my stunned child for advice on how she can be a better therapist because she is just a student. Aristotle made no continuation of services plan and just left my child without any help. We ended up having to go to Urgent Care. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

I made an appointment online for today earlier in the week, confirmed it yesterday and received a text reminder at 10am for my 11:30am only to get to the center and be told they had no record of my appointment or my contact information because their system was down and no therapist available to see me like they are running a corner barber shop and not a psychological center. The most disrespectful situation ive been in a very long time. I also note that the name of the therapist you book the appointment online with (even through ZocDoc) is not the one you will actually see; I was told she is just the center's coordinator. I am in the process of getting bariatric surgery, and along with various physical tests, a psychiatric evaluation is also required. Aristotle's was one of the providers my bariatric surgeon recommended. So I scheduled an appointment. Upon arrival, I was presented with a large amount of paperwork to sign. One paper was so poorly photocopied that I did not sign it (the text was very faint). But the deal-breaker was an 8-page legal document/contract. I only expected to be here for one, maybe two sessions, so I did not see the necessity of such an extensive contract, and I refused to sign it. I was told I had to sign it. Instead, I wrote something to the effect of 'signed under protest - signed because I was told I had to - I don't have time to read this - I am not an attorney' and signed and dated that statement. They found that unacceptable, so I told them I would use the services of another provider. I asked them to give me my signed paperwork. Since I was not going to be a patient there, they had no need for it. But they refused to give it to me. They claimed the paperwork would be shredded. Because of the amount of paperwork they expected patients to sign, even for someone like me who only expected to be there once, maybe twice, I did not trust this facility, so I insisted on seeing my signed paperwork be shredded in front of me. After much hemming and hawing, someone finally brought down a portable shredder and shredded my paperwork in front of me as I watched. Obviously I am not in a position to evaluate the actual quality of the services provided. But, based on the tremendous amount of paperwork they expected new patients to sign - all of which, I'm sure, is written in such a manner as to benefit and protect them, especially that 8-page contract - I do not recommend Aristotle Psychological & BioFeedback. read more

I have to agree with the first reviewer, this establishment doesn't worth 1 star. - After an hour of evaluation by a so-called "therapist" (she was nice though) I thought she was about to give me a referral who would be the best psychologist in their establishment. Instead, I was asked to meet the receptionist because apparently she knows more than the rest (big huh?!) -$40 for evaluation (you don't meet a psychologist) they just collect information and you'd have to go to the receptionist to pick a psychologist - how convenient!!! - First visit with a therapist: They couldn't find the file and had to repeat information again - This establisment does not have therapists bio or anything of sort. You have to find it on your own. -Awful, awful service... please save your time, money and aggravation! read more

I was extremely skeptical about going here for a psych evaluation due to all of the negative reviews. I am glad that I went. Maybe they're under different management Y this point, and that's why my experience was so amazing. Every receptionist that I interacted with was extremely professional as well as helpful. I saw Dr. Melissa, and she was also amazing and made me feel very comfortable. She listened well, didn't make assumptions and didn't judge anything I had to say. Oh and it's not like other psych offices where you spend all day there just to be seen for ten minutes. They go by the actual appointment time that was set for you, so I loveddddd that! this is the worst place if you need help. I had an appt. for march 10th and its a good thing i called. I was told Jan Tang would not be in that day. I was then giving an appt. for march 17th. I received a call on my phone telling me that that appt. was also cancelled. When I called back before 4pm no-one answered even though the message said they are open to 5pm. I will never go there again. I should have known as the first visit I saw a therapist who didn't do much as she was leaving the practice. So I wasted $100.00 dollars on nothing. If I could give 0 stars I would Aristotle is the perfect example of why mental health is stigmatized in our society.  If you are experiencing emotional distress, I would not seek services here;  there is a very high chance they will only add to your emotional distress,  both the therapists and staff. The people who answer the calls can be rude and belittling. In one example, I told the woman who answered the phone that I was following up about completing paperwork so I could take disability leave. Not only did she refuse to help me, but she implied that I was trying to commit fraud by requesting that my disability paperwork be updated. Even after I began crying on the phone and explained why the paperwork was so important, she was not empathetic. Another example is how they handled switching therapists. Aristotle has a policy where you have to meet with a therapist  five times before the therapist can complete paperwork on your behalf. I was meeting with one therapist who was amazing and the only person at Aristotle I had a good experience with. Unfortunately she left Aristotle after I had five sessions with her. They assigned another therapist to me and required that I have another five sessions before the second therapist could update my paperwork. This put me at risk of losing my job. I felt like I was being punished for something that was completely out of my control (first therapist leaving). Thankfully my job was patient and  understood, but what about for people whose jobs are not patient? This could really have a negative impact on someone's life. And the policy is completely nonsensical. If one therapist has already documented your mental health challenges over five sessions, why can't another therapist refer to those notes and assessments? Then, as if this were not bad enough, the second therapist they assigned to me was completely unethical. She made a negative remark about where my sister lives and would consistently tell me unhelpful platitudes (e.g., "you just need to work hard and be happy). If only it were that easy! Needless to say I stopped going to Aristotle and that was the best decision I could have made. I found a new therapist who is  compassionate, patient, knowledgeable, introspective and has been key in improving my mental and emotional health. So if you do have a bad experience with Aristotle don't take it personally, understand they failed you and just keep pushing and looking, there is a therapist out there for you. The biggest thing I took away from my experience at Aristotle:  In this world you have to fight for yourself because people (like the ones at Aristotle) aren't guaranteed to have compassion and warmth, no matter what job or title they have. read more

This is the worst center ever. My daughter is 11 years old and has started treatment there for depression. Seems that when you m not there they decide to cut short her appointments and from a full 45 minutes to less than 10. Meanwhile the therapist is putzing around getting food and everything delaying my daughter's appointment. My insurance only a few therapy sessions and my co pay is 50 dollars meanwhile the session is 200. Not bad making 200 for 10 minutes. My daughter was upset more than she was going in saying that she hates that place and started crying. Seems that their modo is in and out. Many of the therapists left. Some were very good. Beware where you choose this place. Its your choice and you decide if this is a good place for you. If you really want help look elsewhere. read more

Basically I went to Dr. Lynn for 7 months for emotional problems. Around the end, which is month 7, she suggested that I not be a prude and find a fuck buddy from an app.exact quote. So , I made a tinder knowing well enough about myself that I have emotional problems and I am not able to do this successfully. Um, after I met a stranger from the internet which could of even been dangerous and I was provided no guidance or strategies on doing this safely, I went back to ask what is up. This advice was terrible. So she then told me to look specifically for a married fuck buddy. Wow I thought the last session was bad, there was no way I could take this doctor serious anymore. Yes, some advice was life changing and good. And some advice was so bad and potentially dangerous. So go at your own risk , I'll be seeing someone else. read more

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Let me state that I work in healthcare as well -- and when I witnessed the front desk become unprofessional and stay that way -- I should've gotten up and gone home. These girls were busy complaining and LOUDLY about what is going on in another coworker's personal life in front of all of us in the waiting room for at least TEN MINUTES. I shouldn't and nor do I want to know what is going on in someone's life in that much detail who I only just saw for the first time ten minutes ago. Okay, fine, they're young -- whatever. I'll see what my intake is like (which is what I was there for). Rolando comes down with the elevator to get me and when we sat together in the room -- his questions were so discombobulated that I didn't understand what was happening. I came here to get help with my anxiety and panic attacks that I have had all of my life. I came here because when I was SEVEN I tried to first kill myself. I realize I don't need to say these things publicly but I swear there is a reason. He proceeded to continuously try to blame my sister's death that happened in 2011 for my "emotional problems" currently and he doesn't believe that depression, anxiety, and panic attacks are a psychological disorder/chemical imbalance and that it's actually a lie the pharmaceutical companies made up to sell drugs. As I mentioned before: I work in healthcare. I work in a pharmacy. I left the office upset but more so angry that I was subjected to subpar care. I went straight to my primary care -- and this same bullshit was sent there to him (blaming my anxiety and panic on my sister's death) when he's been treating me for these issues since 2009!!!!! I was very surprised to read the other reviews for this place-- I have always felt that everyone here was very friendly and accommodating. I never felt like anyone was looking down on me. I will say that this is not a place to go when you need a psychiatrist ( it's better to find a different one)--- but I was told that straight out at the intake. In regards to not being referred to a therapist in an intake, I am assuming that the person just had a poor intake specialist-- my intake person suggested someone to see that was within my parameters. I had and continue to have really great experiences here-- for a place that takes Medicaid, it is incredibly professional, attentive, and a very clean place. I highly recommend it. read more

After being charged and paying a co- pay for 2 visits, I was informed by my insurance company that a co-pay should not be charged. This was not the place to go for the type of therapy that I wanted/needed, I was really looking to do some sort of cognitive behavioral therapy. The place itself is fine. The ladies at the front desk were cordial, but I got a vibe that this is sort of a grim clinic. I had thought the intake appointment was meant to assess which therapist would be best suited for your needs, but it seemed that I was speaking with a "therapist". This person was nice, and well-intentioned, but just gave general feedback that I know would not be helpful to me. I was disappointed. If your insurance will cover a proper psychologist, I would highly recommend going that route. read more

I just got off the phone with their nasty receptionist and I honestly want to cry. I have been coming here for some time now and I have seen many clients be treated horribly by the receptionists there. Some are so nice but others... well I called to reschedule my appointment that is tomorrow because they did not call to remind me like they usually do. I have the Iwatch so I can assure you, they did not call. I asked to reschedule my appointment to next week and she spoke in Greek at first which I do not understand, and when I asked to repeat it she said "NAME? WHAT IS YOUR NAME?" After telling her, she said that I cancelled less than 24 hours from the scheduled appointment so I will be charged a $55 fee. I told her that I never received a call, like they normally do and she said "oh well I'll pass it to a manager but it says here that we called and your voicemail was full" which is a huge lie since I always keep my voicemail empty!!! If anything, I would have at least received the missed call notification from them like I have before. Than she continued to schedule me for next week and I just said never mind I'll call when I'm ready. I loved my therapist but I'm not coming back.... I'm so sad but the way they treat people is absolutely horrible. I don't understand how they can talk to people who are clearly going for emotional distress or other issues! There should be a no star option, as that is what this place deserves. Listen to the reviews on this one, this place should be avoided at all costs. I've tried this place on and off for the last few years, as they are one of the only places that takes my insurance. High turnover on therapists, no surprise since this place is awful. I arrived for an appointment and asked if my son was next.. The older Greek lady tells me yes, go wait on the second floor. An hour goes by and I go back down to ask what the hold up is.. She says there are 5 people in front of us. What? I asked her if we were next. She says can't you see the 5 lines in front of your name (they are covered by privacy tape)? I'm Astoria born and bred, I'm not Greek but I sure do know Greek curse words. I let her finish her call, she processes my refund and I say "what's your name"? She's like "what's my name"?? I'm not telling you.. Really? I'm asking your name in case I have to ask about my refund... She says "Mary". I say Mary, (yeah right), I'm done with this place and guess what... I understand Greek. Very frustrating experience; poorly managed. Information filled out on online form was not given to intake; then the time and money spent on intake session was a waste since none of the information or history was read by therapist so everything had to be repeated; therapist took two calls during session and appeared to nod off; session ended abruptly while in the middle of talking; Place seems poorly manage and overall care feels less than professional and insensitive to the needs of the psychologically challenged clients they propose to be serving. While I can appreciate the administrative challenges of running a business in mental health, that is their problem and should not flow over into patient care while they address those issues. If you need help and this is your only option, then get the care you need, but if you have other places to choose from, you might want to explore them first. read more
