But when the white lady in the office comes out ask and tell her something, she denied to give me my report and just gave me this paper without any information about the women who (Chinese women) hit me. CORRUPT. I was nearly hit on my drivers side by an officer who illegally cut into my lane at a sharp turn with no blinker or sirens in Crystal City. After beeping to alert him of my presence, he pulled me over and demanded me to get out my vehicle multiple times despite not being able to cite any laws or violations broken. He degraded and yelled at me for over 2 minutes despite knowing his fault. He only allowed me to leave once I asserted my rights. Complaint has been filed. Through my recent experience, I learned how important 911 operators are when someone is in panic mode. My situation also forced me to reach out to surrounding departments and their operators. Our Arlington 911 operators are kick a@$!!! If you are forced to call 911, the person that answers the phone is your lifeline. They make a huge difference! Arlington PD is professional and courteous. They show up in a reasonable timeframe when you have to call, and they take each call seriously and respectfully. They are not the friendliest police force around, but they do not seem to bother citizens unnecessarily and are responsive to calls for noise and car accidents. I had an experience with one aggressive officer years ago, but it worked out when he realized I was telling the truth about not putting on my headlights fast enough. He wasn't a bad person, he was just being cautious. I have not heard of any incidents of corruption. One time I approached two police officers on break to thank them for all that they do and they smiled warmly. When I filmed a short film they even allowed me to film at the front of their building and were quite supportive (without compromising any of the staff or citizens' privacy). The key is to be respectful and professional, and they seem to be easy to deal with. read more

I got harrassed by these goons over a 911 call that I didn't make. I told these idiots over and over I don't use my land line. The 911 call supposedly came from the land line. The first time it happened they were at my front door, shining a flashlight into the house. It almost turned into a gunfight. I thought it was a house invasion. My mother died and I'm trying to get her estate in order and I told these idiots this. Next time it's badge numbers and a call to my lawyer. I want them fired and their pensions revoked. I was also cyber hacked and identity stolen temporarily and he still was not going to waste his time . Apparently, my detective could not be bothered to help a victim of crime . read more

I used to live in Courthouse right by the police station 10 years and were very familiar with this group. I moved away but come back to Ballston frequently and notice these cops have generally become obnoxious and toxic. Maybe because they feel their main job now is meeting their parking ticket quota by day and arresting public drunks by night? Public servants generally represent the community they serve, so I wouldn't ever live in Arlington again. Try Tysons/McLean instead, where there's a very impressive police culture! read more

Woohoo! I'm a responsible parent (at least for this moment) and it's all thanks to Arlington County Police. Since our baby is due in only a few short weeks, I decided to make an appointment to get our car seat checked out just in case something happened. I went on the Arlington County website and was pleased to see that they had several dates already lined up for the month of October and instead of waiting in a long, tortuous line at the fire station like some of my friends in other counties have told me, I was able to choose my dates and book directly online. The carseat check was held in the public library parking garage right outside of the Ballston Mall and all of the instructions that they sent me to find them were clear as day. Officer Heather Hurlock was the one helping me out and she could not have been more enthusiastic and helpful. She also did not judge me when I pulled up with my uninstalled carseat (they request you try to make every attempt to install it before coming in but I gave up halfway through the instructional manual) and that I still had not vacuumed all of these champagne flavored jelly beans that I spilled in the back seat at my last work event (#YelpCMLIFE). The information she gave us was practical and hands on and she gave my husband and I adequate time to get used to our new carseat and practice by ourselves. She was easy to talk to and non-judgemental and you could tell she was passionate about her job. My friend had a baby premature a week ago and was unable to get her carseat checked yet -- she mentioned that she always had emergency spots for situations like this open at every event she held plus she was willing to stay late to accommodate her. Now that's service! Thank you Arlington County for helping me feel more prepared for my little one! read more

The guy on the non-emergency line took my report of a road hazard on Route 110 but his tone was very rude. If it was too much trouble to take the report, the guy should have just referred me. If he needs something more specific than "Paving/construction materials on Route 110 going toward Crystal City, after you take the exit from I-66," he needs to investigate it some other way. Not everyone is blessed with a photographic memory or is capable of supplying fine details. read more

I went here to get fingerprinted for a volunteer position and had a positive experience. They only do fingerprinting between 1:30-3:30 so make sure to check their schedule in advance. Everyone was nice and polite. The wait was around 15-20 minutes, but the fingerprinting took 5 minutes max. Tip: they don't allow phones in the building so make sure to leave yours in the car or in the lockers they provide. If you come here for fingerprinting make sure to bring 2 valid forms of ID! read more

Officers are lazy and on a power trip. Make their own parking spots and don't pay for parking when they do find a spot off fair fax drive. Lazy bums could not help a lady push a car to a spot so it would be out of the way because they don't want to be liable for damage. Reported them to their commanding offer and she said they lied. Overall they need to be reminded they are public servants not people with a badge that allows them to make rules as they go. I wil say they have some of the cutest female officers. Over respond to things like pot holes with great force. Actual emergencies often go "unsolved." Official job title should be "Babysitters of Drunk Working Professionals." Often target minorities for traffic violations in a predominantly Caucasian town. If you get pulled over you will be spoken to like a criminal. Tone will be condescending. Words will be aggressive. I am someone who has lived in several cities and cherishes the police, and I respect the officer's sacrifices for our well-being, but ACPD...come on do better. read more

Not useful, not helpful. I had property stolen from me while traveling (lost and stolen, not an either or), and instead of giving me a report to take with me for insurance proof, the officer said decided to focus on the "misplaced" portion of what I said and simply said, "sorry". Do they actually work in Arlington besides trying to find ways to build revenue? You came all the way out to help me and chose not to write a formal report because...? If my property is not in the place where I last left it, it's not misplaced. It's stolen. If the rest of the people who helped me were checking security cameras and calling institutions on my behalf to help, I'd expect the ACPD to at least TRY. No worries, though. I'll be getting what I need for a small fee instead of free (like it should be). At this point, it's just a matter of realizing that the ACPD was less helpful and less informed that the good people at the TSA who DID help me. Unreal. read more

In my recent experience with the Arlington County Police department, they were incredibly prompt, thorough, and professional. When I returned from a recent trip, I discovered that my car had been hit and no note had been left. I filed a police report with hopes that they would look into it but frankly thought they would assign a report number, give it a cursory look, and forget about it. Instead, they've actively pursued the case and given it real time and consideration. I almost couldn't believe it when Detective Whalin called me on a federal holiday to let me know he was actively pursuing the case. Detective Whalin has taken a careful look at the report, followed a number of leads, and updated me on where things stand. I'm not sure if things will ultimately get resolved, but it's very heartening to know that the Arlington County Police department and officers like Detective Whalin are tenacious in pursuing these crimes and go the extra mile to look into every case. I had to go here to get fingerprinted for my job, but I wasn't aware that cell phones aren't permitted in the building. I'm perfectly okay with that, but since I didn't know, I still had my phone upon entering the building. Instead of telling me calmly that I couldn't have my phone and that I could check out a locker, instead, the security yelled at me and told me to leave. When I asked where the lockers were he gestured vaguely through the window, and then said to get out until I found a place to put my phone. He was so rude, and the rest of the security guards just laughed at me. However, the only reason I'm giving 3 stars, instead of one, is because of how helpful the desk workers are, as well as the man who did my fingerprints! They were so respectful and helpful - completely different from the security guards. read more

I've been victimized by an Arlington County police officer that has chosen to abuse their power. I'm writing this on Yelp because I don't have many, if any, options to have this heard outside of a controlled court room. And chances are I won't get to make this statement in when I am in court. I was wrongfully issued a parking citation for $35 ($60 if late). I had parked in a multi space paid parking area. I paid for two hours and placed the receipt face up on my dashboard and met my friend up for lunch. Upon arriving back to my car, I was shocked to find a parking ticket stuffed under my windshield wiper. I looked at the ticket and looked at my receipt sitting on the dash. It was issued 17min after I had parked. Clearly within my paid parking privilege. What really upset me was how close the ticket was placed to the proximity of my receipt. How could he not have seen it? I called the number on the back to contest. I told the police office my situation and said I had clearly displayed my receipt on the dashboard. I also still have the receipt in my possession and asked if they would accept that as proof to which they denied because my violation was for not displaying my receipt. They said to call back after the officer had returned and submitted their photo evidence of my violation. When I called they said the photos do not show my ticket on display. I looked at the photos and was outraged that the officer took two photos. Each photo was taken at an angle that obscured my receipt from view. When I told her this, she argued that the photo was not doctored. I did not claim it was doctored. The officer had taken the photo at an angle that would have my car's inspection sticker blocking the receipt on the dash. Because the photos did not clear me. I now have to fight this in court. Which means I will have to take time off from work to fight this and there's still a chance they will not find me not guilty. If found guilty I'd have to pay court fees ($66) and the fine according to their FAQ on the site. If found not guilty...well the FAQ doesn't address that. I know it's a relatively small fine. But am I supposed to just pay it out of convenience? Why is my integrity under question? Will I have a chance to accuse the officer of misconduct? Probably not. And over a $35 dispute, who would expect anyone to cause such a stir? My point isn't to say all ACPD officers are abusing their power. But I know for sure one of them is. I feel the officer should be reprimanded for abusing the power that they have been given. I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't the only victim of this officer's misconduct. I'm welcome to any ideas to bring this to light. read more

I hate to do it, but I have to give you all 2 stars. There are 2 incidents that have reduced your rating with me. One evening in July, I was driving down Glebe Road (about 6:15, so it wasn't quite dark yet) and I see cop cars speeding down the opposite side. I thought, "Yes! Get the criminal!" and I continued to listen to my Miley Cyrus. Then, I noticed, the cops' lights were closer, as they had turned around and were going my direction now. "Oh!, " I thought "duty must be calling in the opposite direction! I'll get out of their way." So I get over to get out of their way, but I'm still driving and jamming, "She's just being Miley, hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmmm." I notice, while I'm rocking out, that the police don't seem to be going around me. I hear, "Freeze!" I do. Was I being arrested for bad music? This is no way I wanted to go down, for sure. Frozen, I look in my mirrors to see several police cars. Then, what makes this whole experience SO MUCH FUN is that 2 officers come to either side of the car, with a third behind -- guns drawn. I screamed and somehow turned off the car and rolled down the windows and realized that bad music could have very well been a crime and repented for my sins. With hands as high as they could go, I looked at the gun furthest from me. The officer looks at me for a few seconds and says, "You can go!" Needless to say, I had to stay there for a second to get my life together. It was only later and through posting the incident on Facebook that I found out that they were looking for someone in a Red SUV that robbed the Best Western. I guess they realized, when they got me, that no one in plaid and pearls listening to Miley Cyrus was capable of committing such a crime. Why 2 stars? I mean, they were just doing their job, right? Yeah, but the officer could have said, "Sorry." The next incident was about 11 pm sometime in October. I went to Wendy's and was on my way back. I saw that there was an accident on the street I was traveling down. Officers seemed to have most of the mess cleaned up, but I didn't want to disturb their groove, so I tried to get their attention to see if it was ok to pass, since no one else was there, so I couldn't tell. After 5 minutes of flicking my lights, waving, and yelling, I tooted my horn. Well, an officer finally paid attention. He comes to my window and I said, "Hi, I see something just happened here, and I don't want to be in the way. Should I turn around or can I pass through?" He ignores my question and goes off on some rant about how its wrong to blow your horn at an officer and how I could be given a ticket for that and how annoying it is. Look, buddy, I call myself being considerate of what YOU have going on. Zip your lip and just tell me if I can pass through. Ugh! He was so unbelievably rude to me. I hope he's the only one like that on the force. At least he didn't pull a gun *shrug* read more

Arlington PD is among the worst police forces in the country. They are brutes that dont look to solve problems. They are not peace officers. They use brutality and rudeness in nearly every encounter I have had. They assault residents. Their rate for solving cases is terrible. If you are in trouble, you are better off seeking the assistance of citizens than the police. They will only make the problem worse. read more

Officer Ames of Arlington County PD charged me with something I didn't do which resulted in a conviction of something I didn't do. In my life's entirety he has never met me face to face or spoken with me personally. He used heresay to produce the charge against me. And never spoke to me about it or asked me any questions. Can you say corrupt??? Find some real crimes to solve and charge people with, not heresay petty matters that are a waste of taxpayer dollars to be taken to court and negatively interfere with a law abiding citizen's life. read more

My car has been vandalized twice in 10 days. I called ACPD both times. The second time they told me if it happens a third time they will send someone out. A I get pulled over by Arlington police for making a right turn on yellow, the reason the officer first said to me it was because I made the right turn sharp and speeding on red light, when I asked him how fast was I going and the fact that I had full control of my truck he changed the story to running a red light. In court he said I told him that j was speeding and run a full red light, not true but like in Virginia all judges will take the officers word, why do police have to lie in court just be honest officers. I lost trust in the police officers. Next time when it turns yellow I will just slam on my breaks because I don't want a ticket and if I get hit from behind then the police department has to pay for it. It's shame that the police department has to generate money over safety of the people. God knows the truth and my faith it's his hands, what goes around comes around. Drove my friend to work on Quincy st at 9:00 Am, 11/16/2017. Officer driving in a cruiser numbered 6519. White officer, short hair. He blocked the intersection while waiting for the red light to turn right to 7/11 across the street. Making a Navy blue, old model corolla having to wait longer than I did to make her left turn. I had to wait for a good 2 min to make my left turn to my friend's work place. He gave me a mean look and said something seemed inappropriate since both our windows were up. He seemed like he had a short temper when he looked over and said something with anger and the look of anger when you're yelling at somebody. Look away after and shook his head. The nerve not to move so traffic can move more easily. No, just stayed there arrogantly and ignorantly. I'm posting this on here so maybe Internal Affairs can make due corrections with our law enforcers. Seeing that officer shown that expression, aimed it toward me and broke a law is very disrespectful and injustice. I wanna make this clear, I have respect for what they do but not for how he acted. They profile out of state cars for phony tickets so that you can't get to court...VISITORS BEWARE. I called the court and they told me to write a letter with my plea. The court date was changed by the officer, the letter never got to the court and I got charged additional fees for not paying while I was trying to appeal. There is no real way to get a fair trial if you aren't local. All phone calls and letters are ignored. While you're trying to exert your rights for a fair trial they garnish your wages at a 25% rate. The Constitution doesn't apply to Arlington County. read more

I have had multiple encounters with Arlington police and all of them have been awful. I am a young girl and I was driving with my friend who was also a female and an older Spanish guy had been following us for some time after he made gestures at us while at a red light. We kept driving to make sure he really was following us but seeing as how he ran multiple lights, tailed us, and proceeded to go in circles/back track we knew for sure he was. My friend and I were pulled up at a red light next to a cop, we got the female cops attention and told her what was happening she then told us that she was on her way to something and couldn't help. We then went to the police station as my mom advised us to and he then went his separate way. When we tried to file a complaint (we had his license plate and the company he worked for which was on his car) and they turned us away. Another experience I had was at a party at my home. We got a noise complaint and the police showed up. Our German shepherd was outside on his lead at the time and was barking alerting us that someone was there keep in mind he is on a lead and can't go very far.. you can even walk up the stairs to the front door without him near you. The police yelled multiple times they were going to shoot our dog for no apparent reason whatsoever. When we went to talk to them no charges were pressed on anyone and they left. Another time we encountered the police, they proceeded to bother and make remarks about one of my family members weight. read more
