I recently transitioned to a new company which required me to update my headshots. It had been a while since I have had headshots done and all I told John was that I needed to look corporate and executive. I notified him of the color scheme my company needed in advance. He made recommendations regarding the colors I should wear and bring and he allowed me to bring multiple outfits to test out which looked best. I am generally a stiff and tense individual and "relaxing" for pictures does not come naturally to me. Not only was John incredibly flexible and understanding of everything, he had this great way of coaching me through the entire experience in a lighthearted, fun and extremely enjoyable way...so much so that nothing about me screamed "tense" or "stiff" in the final headshot. John has a way of connecting to you as a human being, leveraging the few things he knows about you to bring out joy and confidence in your eyes and basically create a masterpiece out of a rock (me, I am the rock). Aside from being so incredibly talented, John is also incredibly patient. I am pretty picky when it comes to my headshots (I always hyperfocus on the smallest details about my appearance which deter me from pictures that may be amazing but from my perspective are lacking or off). I wasn't sure what I would be picky about as it had been a while since I had obtained headshots, so after every few pictures, John would pause and review them with me. He would allow me to express what I liked and didn't like, while also supplying his professional input. We would then take more photos, pause, and repeat. While I was more focused on how random folds in my outfit looked or how certain features of my face looked (my nose has a little curve that is very normal, but throws me off so I am particular RE the angles in which photos are taken of me), John was focused on ensuring he was capturing small details to fit into the big picture. He was not only focusing on the details I was telling him I was picky on, he was also incorporating additional details to make sure every aspect of the picture was ideal. What I appreciated most is the educational component that went into the process - he would guide me through his thoughts and supply recommendations...but would take it one step further and show me the results once I would incorporate a recommendation (instant gratification = fulfilled). Another bonus is that during no part of the process did I feel that John was in a rush or annoyed by my pickiness. I can confidently say this is the first time I have encountered such a photographer when it comes to headshots. Hands down the best way to end 2021 was having John complete my headshots. I will definitely be heading in 2022 with a confident, but approachable, picture to display to the corporate world. Oh, and I will also be recommending John to every family member, friend, colleague, etc that I have who may need headshots updated...he was THAT good.
