THOSE stickers are actual stickers. They are an enormous pain to get off. It took me over an hour to scrape, peel, razor and spray my previous two off. So enter Lombard. You know what Lombard's vehicle stickers are? Vinyl cling. No adhesive, no mess. BRILLIANT. I love it. It's such a small thing, and yet, I am so grateful. For I know as long as we live in Lombard, I will not have to peel and scrape endless stickers off my windshield each year. (Oh, and the police and public works departments are pretty helpful, as previously noted. They listen to my suggestions. They take my stolen GPS report without calling me an idiot. They CALL me to explain why there's no crosswalk at Highland and Majestic. Rock and roll.)

Then staff review your documents before assigning you to a queue. They processed my information quickly and I was in and out in about 30 minutes. It was only that long because of their system. I received a paper temporary id and the mailed ID in 9 business days.

The group using the room prior to them left half-eaten sushi in the trash can, causing the room to smell strongly of fish. To help with the odor, my daughter's tutor, who is also a Glen Ellyn resident, placed the trash can partially in the doorway to keep the door slightly open for ventilation. An employee described as taller with dark hair approached them and stated that it was "policy" that the trash cans had to remain inside the room with the door closed. When the tutor explained the odor issue, the employee returned with a bottle of Febreze and sprayed it directly in their direction inside the enclosed study room, then placed the sushi-filled trash can back inside the room and shut the door again while reiterating that the door had to remain closed. My daughter became physically ill after the session and vomited when she got home. Regardless of intent, spraying a scented chemical irritant into a small enclosed space without asking the occupants was inappropriate and unprofessional. More concerning is that the obvious solution -- simply removing or emptying the trash containing rotting food -- was ignored in favor of masking the smell with spray fragrance. This situation demonstrated poor judgment, lack of customer care, and an unnecessary escalation of a simple sanitation issue.

Also, I went there this morning to get a $50 stamp for refinancing my home. This is our second refinance, yet this time, we have to get a sewer inspection. I have no idea why, we're not building, nothing is changing hands, we're just trying to get a lower rate. They only schedule these inspections on certain days during certain hours (plumb job, huh?). I voiced my annoyance with this hoop I had to jump through after four months of trying to refinance and the woman at the finance counter snottily told me "All the information is on our Web site." I told her, rightfully so, that the Web site is archaic and hard to navigate. I couldn't even find the hours that the village is open on the Web site and had to check the village's Facebook page. I hope that the several hours of inconvenience the village is creating for me is really worth the $50 they're charging me for this stamp. I am positive that the $50 will not offset the cost of a city employee coming to my house to inspect my sewers.
