We deserved it. Halo-halo is Tagalog for "mix-mix". It's a shaved ice treat with layers of ingredients mixed in. Different regions have their own different varieties. Razon's started in Guagua, which is an hour north from Manila. This location closed because they are demolishing Greenbelt 1 and redeveloping the space into a luxury mall. I don't know if Razon's will relocate, but they have other cafes in Manila. Not gonna lie... I was expecting something more "picturesque" with colorful ingredients like ube ice cream, jackfruit, nata de coco, kaong (sugar palm fruit), etc. Their rendition is on the simpler side: shaved ice, shredded macapuno (coconut), caramelized bananas, and slices of leche flan (caramel custard). But the components are used thoughtfully and they go well together, rather than a bunch of random items haphazardly mixed in. The consistency of the ice is soft, the cardava banana adds the right amount of sweetness, and the leche flan adds more creaminess. Not the biggest fan of coconut but it wasn't overly off putting. I also love their hot sauce and I must warn you, it's really spicy so stay away from this if you have a low tolerance for chili sauces.
