Friendly & polite with a convenient location in Newport Beach. Prescriptions are filled in a timely manner & forwarded to your pharmacy. I see NP Sharma & Dr. Ardeshana every 3 months for a for a physical check-up & laboratory work. My laboratory results are always e-mailed to me the next day to discuss with NP Sharma & Dr. Ardeshana. This review is way past overdue. Arogya med care exceeded all my expectations. From the check in process to meeting the providers, who were very attentive to detail, knowledgeable and listened to everything I had to say. I was checked in quickly from the front desk who were very warm and receptive. The waiting room was full the day I went but I was checked in rather quickly. I saw both the nurse practitioner, Sahil and Dr. Ardeshana. They do blood work in office which is great. I had my orders, prescription sent to my pharmacy and out the door in 35 min!! I can not even begin to describe how kind, caring, compassionate, smart, and hardworking Dr Andrews is. I moved to Newport and needed a doctor ASAP and he took me under his wing immediately. Most doctors will not accept new patients so willingly. Well Dr Andrews immediately went above and beyond for me. He even called me after hours with my lab results. He works non stop and cares about his patients so much. I swear I have never met anyone like this doctor. He's smart and so patient. I would wait 10 hours if he was busy just to see him over any other doctor. He really wants to help his patients get better. Now a days you see doctors who are like robots and just want to type on their iPads the whole time and not really care about what's going on. Had a really bad experience here. Went for a simple annual exam, which is clearly covered under my insurance and was the only reason I visited a doctor: because it was free and recommended. I conveyed this to the front desk prior to being seen. As you would expect, after not having been to a doctor's office for a check-up in many years, things still have not changed within the medical establishment. The staff and the Doctor both think that the doctor is some sort of demigod whose time and importance trumps mine. I was prompt and on time, yet I had to wait quite some time to be seen. The walls are so thin here that I could hear the Doctor's appointment next door (probably some sort of HIPAA violation there, as I shouldn't be able to hear the sensitivities of another patient's issues). The Doctor is old, and I could hear that the patient was also old; so, it seemed like those two had a good rapport. By the time the doctor got to me, however, I immediately felt the disconnect. This guy has done annual exams so many times prior that he just whizzed through everything at a hare's pace, and I hardly knew what was going on. Supposedly, annual exams are now primarily just questions/answers checked off on a computer application. I felt rushed and ill-informed about what was going on. Felt like just another easy $1000 for the Doctor to pocket off of my insurance. Took some blood tests and left. The only redeeming quality of this office is that the doctor does take the time to call you to discuss your tests. I, however, am a very busy person, and I am unapologetically a product of the 21st century; so, I prefer texts and emails over phone calls. Additionally, I ended up receiving two bills from Quest Diagnostics lab. Perplexed, I emailed the doctor's office to inquire why I'm being billed for any part of an exam which is covered under my insurance. Unexpectedly, but not surprisingly, I receive no response, and I had to call the office. I spoke to an extremely rude front desk person who first suggested that I had to call Quest. First, why should I have to call the lab that the office has contracted out for their blood work? My interaction is with the doctor's office and no one else. So, I told them that I will do no such thing, and they need to figure it out. Second, I told them that I had received several voice mails from the doctor while I'm at work and that I prefer emails over phone calls due to my busy week schedule. The front desk person scoffed at such a notion, and proceeded to inform me that the Doctor will do no such thing. I said, excuse me? That wasn't a request; that was a demand. These are not the times of noblemen and peasants. I don't care what status you think a doctor has in today's society, but to me they are on a much lower rung than most other people tend to place them. Their time is no more or less important than mine, and, as a patient, I get to call the shots in terms of communication. The only exception here would be if it's because there's some sort of privacy issue, which there isn't because they sent me my results via email, so they can also communicate via email, especially when it's non-sensitive. In short, I can describe this place as barely status quo. I received the same ill-informed, conventional medical "wisdom" that you receive from any general practitioner. Nothing new in science or health to offer. The Doctor was not up to date on burgeoning ideas on gastroenterology and potential causes of GERD. He offered nothing to improve my life. Just today, I received yet another bill from Quest, so I now I have to deal with these guys again to get another billing problem resolved because, in the end, we all know that the health industry is not about our health; rather, it's about keeping the medical establishment status quo and money flowing between the pharmaceutical companies, laboratory facilities, and medical facilities. The amount of money this office made off of me from my insurance is criminal. The benefit I received from the visit was almost non-existent, yet they're raking in the money. Outrageous. read more

I began seeing Dr. Andrews in 2013 after moving out to California. Receiving a referral to his practice back then has proven to be the best piece of advice any doctor has ever given me! I've found Dr. Andrews to be very personable. He engages patients well, despite our living in the age of electronic medical records, where other doctors all too often hide behind a computer monitor and barely make eye contact with their patients. I thoroughly enjoy our conversation and feel as though he's gotten to know me a bit, even though I'm a more recent patient who only comes in every once in a while. However, the best thing about Dr. Andrews may be his follow up efforts. It's clear he goes above and beyond to connect with patients at the end of his long work day. He'll answer questions and calls back quickly compared to other doctors I've had over the years. Importantly, his office staff are very attentive and kind, along with the nurses and techs who are part of Dr. Andrews' team. They always process patients efficiently and cheerfully while doing an excellent job. Getting blood drawn in his office or receiving an x-ray on site is not the pain it can be at other practices, where inexperienced staff too often fumble such basics. The office facility itself is inviting, with ample waiting room space and several exam rooms to keep things moving. If you have an appointment, the wait time is usually brief, and making that appointment is easy with openings often available within days. Walk-ins might take a bit longer (unless you can time it just right), but the fact that Dr. Andrews will accommodate them is a definite plus! I'd much rather see him than go to an urgent care where you could get a crumby doctor that doesn't seem to listen or care. The truth is physicians like Dr. Andrews are a rare breed in today's healthcare system. He harkens back to a time when doctors were deservedly held in high esteem because they delivered actual, individualized care instead of the volume-driven, corporatized/industrial model of medicine that pervades today. The world needs more general practitioners like Dr. Andrews, and it's sad to realize just how few remain. read more

When I first moved to the area, I asked a friend of mine who is a nurse if she had any suggestions for a Primary Doctor. She unhesitatingly recommended Dr. Andrews, and I've been extremely happy with him, and here's why: THIS GUY IS THOROUGH - Though at times I've had to wait a little longer than I would like to, once I get in with him I understand why - Anytime I go in there with a problem, I get that problem and 5 other problems taken care of all at once. THIS GUY IS VERY NICE - Dr. Andrews's personality really sells it for me. Even with some of the more sensitive of health issues, I feel very comfortable talking with him about them. THIS GUY IS WICKED SMART - Over the past 3 years this guy has displayed an excellent amount of professional knowledge, expertise, and research skills. He is also aware of the quality of other doctors in the area. In the event that he has needed to refer me to one of them (and they've always been top knotch), he has made the appointment right on the spot - and he's got all of their telephone numbers MEMORIZED. I came in ten minutes early to a less than friendly staff. I filled out some paper work and sat down. After about 55 minutes, the person before me exclaimed they had been waiting for over an hour and a half and still hadn't seen the doctor. After that I got up and told them I can't wait that long and left. Aside from that, the office was outdated, pictures on the walls were crooked and there was no sense of pride or promptness anywhere within the office and staff. Anyone who values their time I would not recommend they come here. I didn't get to see the doctor and after an hour of waiting, I wasn't at all interested in finding out what he was like. When I moved to southern California, I needed a primary care doctor. My Aunt referred me to Dr. Andrews and he has been the best doctor I have ever seen. He is very thorough, is up on the latest research, and actually cares about his patients. About 2 years I got really, scary sick and he called me at my office just to check on me. His personality is great, and I think he is hilarious. He does talk fast, but I think that the one sour review above has it all wrong. If you don't get something you actually have to ask questions...he is a doctor not a psychic. I now live in the SF Valley and still drive all the way to Newport to see him - he is that good! He is also in on an occasional Saturday for those of us that work a 60 hour week. He really gets the stressed out hard working professional thing which is great! read more

I'm giving Dr. Andrews 1-star because I feel like he does the bare minimum of care. I originally went to Dr. Andrews because he's close to my work/home, but he also had high feedback here on yelp. However, after being his patient for 2+ years, I'm embarrassed I didn't try and find another primary care doctor sooner. There are four main issues I have with Dr. Andrew's and his office. First, it's almost a guarantee that you'll be waiting in their waiting room for at least an extra 45 minutes on top of the time of your appointment. Second, once you get your vitals and taken back to an exam room, you'll be waiting there for at least another 30+minutes before he, or anyone else, comes by to see you. Third, after all that waiting...he literally wants to rush through your appointment. Fourth, and the worst part, is that his care is basically ineffective. He never gives you a solid, or even halfway decent, diagnosis/treatment strategy and instead will just fire up Google, then bring up WebMed or another site that provides an overview of one of the five things he thinks it could be, reads it verbatim off the screen to you and then scribbles it on the back of the exam sheet for you to take with you and research them to see if any apply to you...Good Grief! It almost ended up making a hypochondriac because I would always leave with more concerns than when I got there. Over 2+ years, I probably had roughly 8 visits with Dr. Andrews and at least half of those were unnecessary follow up visits that could've been avoided if he actually took the appropriate amount of time to listen and attempt to diagnose what I later found out was very common ailments. Once I realized the issue wasn't my health, but Dr. Andrews quality of care, I made another appointment with a different primary care Dr right around the corner and it was almost an immediate improvement. read more

I found Dr. Andrews based on Yelpers' reviews & made an appointment. I've now been a patient for months & absolutely adore Dr. Andrews. He is one of the most personable, and thorough doctors I have ever seen. He asks good questions & follows up if something presents as a red flag to him. Because of Dr. Andrews's concern for my migraines & vertigo, I have been seen a few times at UCLA Neurology & we are treating the issues with supplements alone. No more migraines!! If Dr. Andrews tells you he's going to do something, he does it. In a world where it's rare to find someone being "their word", Dr. Andrews does just that. I've had him call me as late as 830 p, simply because he said he would call with additional info. He works LATE! If I had one critique, it would simply be that Dr. Andrews is a fast-talker. Whatever is on his mind comes right out of his mouth. I imagine that this may cause a little anxiety for some folks, but if you can understand that he is just that way, you will enjoy one of the most committed doctors in Orange County. read more

I've been seeing Dr Andrews for the past 9 years. I'm not one to go to the doctor often, maybe once or twice a year. Dr Andrews as a Person is a very nice man. He listens to me, treats me well and does everything one would ask of a physician. My issue with this office is the wait times. As others have voiced, there hasn't been a time where I've waited less than an hour with an appointment. My last two visits were roughly an hour and a half. I've always been patient and expected a 20-30 minute wait wait, but an hour and a half becomes a bit unprofessional. With people's busy lives, I don't think physicians should be expecting patients to wait that long. I hope things will change or I too, will be seeking another physician. read more

Dr. Andrews is fantastic. He has solid referrals and understands his scope of expertise very well, and has an amazing office and staff. The MA delivering vaccines is flawless; I did not even feel the needle going in. Their phlebotomist has never missed or botched my vein. Their staff is polite and always answers the phone, and Dr. Andrews is good about calling after hours to follow up with his patients. He is very straight forward in a practical and good way. When I switch Insurances, I am making sure to stay in network. As far as I know, for those looking into Covered California plans, the Blue Shield PPO is the only one he takes from Obamacare. A NOTE ON DR. REVIEWS ON YELP: It is not your doctor's fault if insurance would not cover a test. There are many different insurances with very different policies, and it is up to you to talk to insurance and see what they will cover. If you are not sure and it is a deal breaker, just hold off on the test till you call and check. If you EVER see a reviewer complain about bills or such, IT IS MOST LIKELY THE REVIEWERS FAULT FOR NOT KNOWING THEIR OWN INSURANCE PLAN. Rates are set by contract with each individual insurance plan. Doctors can legally only charge you what YOUR INSURANCE SET AS THE RATE! read more

My wife, daughter and I have been seeing Dr. Andrews for over 10 years. He is the greatest doctor I have ever had. Usually I do not take time to write reviews but I see people complaining about wait times. Yes, expect a bit of a wait. It is worth it. He is very comprehensive and is highly respected in his community. He has the all the top & best Drs localy to refer. Being a small business owner I understand the wait is caused by large amount of returning patients like myself. The poor guy works 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. His work ethic and fact that he truly cares for his patients drives him to work these hours. He follows up with calls in the evening unless it is an emergency. Dear Reader For decades I suffered the Gout. It was in the fingers, the elbows, the knees, and the feet -toes and heel. When I had the attach it would be in several areas; and that unrelenting attach would last for weeks before breaking. I went from one physician and then to another and another; over the years, these good people prescribed every drug available to treat the Gout. I went on special diets, did deep fasts, Reiki treatments and so on and nothing worked. It was an unbelievable nightmare that became increasingly discouraging. I was eventually referred to a pain specialist. High doses of Oxycodone had no effect reducing the agonizing pain. And finally by the Grace of God I signed on with another physician, Dr. Charles Andrews. By prescribing a very specific regime using a single a drug that inhibits uric acid formation within months the attacks were less in duration. Within a year all gout attacks ceased. And to note during the decades my uric acid levels were always above 18; after following Dr. Andrews very specific instruction, an Allopurinol regime so to speak, all gout attacks ceased and the uric acid level after decades above 18 were reduced to an acceptable lever - 6 avg. I needed to post here because I remember clearly the decades of unrelenting agony because of the beast Gout and how Dr. Charles Andrews was able to turn a life into days of normalcy. He USED to be the best doctor. My family had been seeing him for years and we loved his attentiveness and demeanor. This past year it all changed and now none of us see him anymore! Each time my wait was well over an hour WITH an APPT! Then he would order every test under the moon to get his moneys worth. Apparently, unbeknownst to me, all those tests he was ordering, my insurance would only cover a portion of them. Dr. Andrews office had a glitch in their system (that they admitted to) and never billed me for those small overages for over 2 years. All of a sudden they fixed that glitch and guess who is calling me everyday as a collections agent for that money? I was threatened by their office that if they didn't receive payment asap for those tests, the doctor would drop me as a patient. Literally in two weeks time, it went from everything was a-okay to you are going to be dropped as a patient because after two years time that we never notified you of any outstanding balances. F**k that! I refuse to be treated like that when I have been a patient of his for over 5 years, as well as my family! I quickly found a new doctor and couldn't be happier with that decision. Over 15 years ago I first had an appointment with Dr. Andrews, which led to the discovery of my kidney cancer. He immediately set me up with a specialist at UCLA, and due to the very early diagnosis, the surgery was minor with no after treatment necessary. He is very good at diagnostic practice and knows the best specialists to refer you to. Yes, the waits are usually 1/2 to 1-1/2 hours, but well worth the time.
