Nowhere near authentic but on a lively night it can be good knockabout fun for a group.

My expectations were not high but I was pleasantly surprised by my meal of chicken fajitas that came with sour cream, guacamole, salsa and flour tortillas. The fajitas had onion and peppers and was nicely seasoned. The flour tortillas were not great but ok and the rest was very good. For a starter we had the macaroni bites that came with a pepper jam that was delicious. my daughter thought the nachos were great. Her husband had steak with peppercorn sauce that he really liked. All in all a pleasant and unexpected surprise. Though I wouldn't see a need to go again this trip, was glad to have tried it.

Mexican food, drink and decor all add up to make this one great place to eat. They sell the usual fajitas and enchalades too. The whole restaurant is themed , in great bright colours of reds and yellows to make it authentic. They also have mexican music, mainly by the Gypsy Kings. One night when i went here we had sangria and were listening to the music when we realised it was hotel california. When you hear this with a mexican twist it is not only hillarious but somewhat cool at the same time!! the service we recieved was second to none absolutely great. The food was also brilliant could not fault either of them. Then we have the prices , which again are great for the amount of food you get. The whole experience was amazing, i would go back as much as i could if lived closer. Its just soo nice! If you stay in looe or visit , make a trip to this restaurant, it wasnt packed when we went in, but there were people in there, a great little hidden gem!

Let's start with something very important to a review of a Mexican (strictly burrito) place in the…read moreUK; I'm American with about fifteen years in the food industry on the perpetual hunt for great food. Taco Macho is a hidden gem, and it shouldn't be surprising that it's the #1 place to eat in Exeter on TripAdvisor. Although I've constantly complained to him about how long it takes to make a burrito, it's also my fault because we're both talkers. He makes all his ingredients fresh, and hand picks all his ingredients because (we've discussed this) he'd rather pay more for supplies that are of a better quality which means he needs to do his shopping instead of going through a supplier. For about £7 you get a burrito that is the best you're going to find (I'll have another review of the taco place in London later) in the UK, I've searched. They're American sized burritos, and absolutely DESTROY the other "Mexican" place across the river, and is the third best burrito I've ever had; the two others are no longer in business and were toward Columbia MD, and the other was in York PA. The flavor is very well balanced and have a nice combination of spice and occasionally citrus notes. Many of the Brits have turned up their nose, and the only reason I've been able to put together is because they're not used to an abundance of flavor in their food - That's not a jab a British food, but an observation from living there for about two years. There are beef, chicken, and sometimes vegan/vegetarian options but that may change in the future; I've never asked about veggie options. Overall, the hours are short (about 1100-1600 Tuesday-Saturday, but that may have changed), so call ahead and hopefully the number provided is both accurate and if it's accurate hopefully he'll pick up; check Facebook for up-to-date hours. If you go in, you could probably tell him the Gringo that was always in flannel sent you, and you won't regret it. However, if you find a better burrito in the UK, somebody needs to tell me because I don't think it's going to happen. Hopefully that was helpful. Keep on eating.

It claims to be a "Spanish restaurant" but even serves Mexican food(quesadillas and nachos, which were both sub-par by the way), French food(cassoulet), Italian(Ciabatta sandwich, pizza), and to top it all off, even Thai food (Thai chicken) and Japanese food (tempura) too!! Quéeeee???? Huh?? I think they should focus on just Latin food at least instead of being so ambitious. Overall, the food can be summarized as anglicized Latin food, but fortunately (or unfortunately) the local clients(almost 100% white English people) seem to love it....I guess it suits their palate...Sobre gusto no hay nada escrito de verdad, no? Bottom line: The hype and ambiance outweigh the quality of the confused food. But hey, you might like it .... at least the Plymouth locals do!

Clientele mixed and you never feel out of place there. It might be "ladies that lunch" or hip young things (even slightly worn old blokes like me). Reasonable drinks on offer. Well worth a visit, my favourite time is early evening or mid afternoon to chill out, eat and read my book.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Mexican food here at the Mexican Cantina. I ordered the shredded pork chimichanga with refried beans. The pork was pretty awesome but the refried beans were none existent in a scientist point of view, "there was a trace" of refried beans. I got guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream but no salsa. Where is the salsa? I told the waiter I would have liked hot sauce with my chimichanga, and that I never had Mexican food without salsa before. He offered salsa to go on its own. What am I supposed to do with a salsa to go?!!! The perks? Amazing and awesome chili tequila. Best tequila I've ever had in my life! I had four shots. It is quite spicy and the spiciness crept in minute after minute after the shot was consumed but I didn't care, I wanted more. Will frequent again. Loved the chimichanga and the chili tequila. I will demand salsa in my next adventure to Mexican Cantina. To those that gave this place three stars, I'm from California and lived two hours away from Mexico. I know Mexican food, hands down this place is a solid four stars. Now if I said it was best Mexican food ever I'd be lying but it is for sure a four, this place actually gets Mexican cuisine right!

The food was really tasty and there was a good choice on the menu. There was also a great choice of cocktails and we all enjoyed a couple, the staff even made up a couple especially for the hen which were both very tasty and it was nice to get her something different!!

Yet extraordinarily we were the only people to be in the establishment. Our food came swift and staff were all around quite chirpy and easy to talk to. The menu was interesting with a variety of foods yet we selected off of the rather bland and basic lunch menu (as we were having late lunch) the starters of chicken wings and nachos - not a pair two individual dishes: were rather hopeful, the wings were succulent and not drowned but not quite lathered in sauce 3 very small chicken wings at £2.85 a sweet deal for some... however, in comparison for the same price of £2.85 a very extreme bowl of nachos with what can only be said as a varied delightful set of topping which were licked clean! The disappointment was still to come. The mains were a tragic display of an underwhelmed chef , who simply slopped one enchilada onto a sea of what can be described as putrid, grainy black beans. The cheese on top remained unmelted just sprinkled on from the bag , not freshly grated , no bother to stick it under a broiler to melt the cheese and combine it into a surprisingly tasty enchilada. But we not only eat with our mouths and my eyes were severely devastated by the catastrophic mess that lay before me. Overall I give 3 stars would not visit again.

That will tell you everything about this over-priced, loud, arrogant, over-sized bar that pretends to be a restaurant. After being "allowed" to sit at the sticky, cramped table, we ordered drinks ($21 USD for 2 unremarkable martinis) and pondered the menu. We saw no sign of our server for a long time and after trying to hear each other over the high volume of chatter in the place, we decided to save ourselves the time and money clearly not valued by this establishment and spend it on a restaurant around the corner whose service and atmosphere were welcoming and professional. There are many fantastic, high-quality places to spend an evening for dinner in Royal William Yard, so do not waste your time in this one.
