I love classic rock like the next guy, meaning you and the two guys who are on either side of you. I like to play air drums while driving, which endangers you and the other motorists. I especially enjoy playing air drums to "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin. That song causes a pile-up every time. But the Arrow is just lame. As a barometer of their lameness, you'll hear the Aerosmith version of "Come Together" more often than you'll hear the original version. I think two guys got together and went to a garage sale, where they bought ten albums apiece. On the way home, they decided to start a radio station. They lost three albums on the way home, but that didn't stop them. Some twenty-some years on, nobody's bought more albums. Two of the original albums purchased are by the Alan Parsons' Project. Dean and Rog are pretty lame too, but they are total genius compared to the two halfwitted bigots who do the morning show now. Walton and Johnson sound like they're broadcasting from the bait shop, drinking lousy coffee, spitting tobacco, and talking about how commies and coloreds are running their great country down, playing reliable warhorses like "Dust in the Wind" and "Bad to the Bone" between jeremiads. But if it's trenchant political commentary you're looking for, you can go to the left of the Arrow and listen to NPR; that is, if you have the tolerance for Balkan wedding music. The Arrow is Houston's signature "Classic Rock" station. If you go to their website, you can immediately grasp who their targeted audience is. Front and center is a link to "The Arrow Babe Pages" which is filled with hundreds of pictures of bikinis stretched over silicon-enhanced curves and guaranteed to get a rise out of the 35 to 50 year old male segment of our population who have nothing better to do than ogle 'em while listening to ZZ Top. Almost by definition, a classic rock station is going to have a limited play list. The Arrow takes this concept seriously which might explain their need to appeal to a market segment with an average IQ of 75 - after all, being bludgeoned by the same tunes daily over a period of decades could seriously threaten anyone's mental health. I love classic rock myself. It defines my generation. So I will listen to The Arrow if it's playing a song that reminds me of my youth. But sit through a morning of Dean and Rog? Their potty talk and teenage T&A mentality is incredibly tiresome. I'd rather lobotomize myself! (Perhap I would start enjoying them then). The other reason I'm doling out only two stars? After co-hosting a morning show at a smaller market classic rock radio station, The Arrow is a lot of the same old thing to me. I am not sure how, over the years, the play list from market to market hasn't expanded at least a little bit. When I tune in, I could probably tell you the run time on most of the songs they play because I spent years spinning the same tunes myself. I used to get tons of calls for things off the play list but it doesn't seem any of the less mainstream stuff ever makes it to the air, even now. You'd think this same rotation would be getting stale by now. And, the morning show - forget about it. I can't even turn on this station if my daughter is in the car. There is no way I could get her to school without her hearing something a child at elementary age should never hear from Dean and Rog. Sometimes this kind of banter can be funny but it is the same old thing day after day and it is about as predictable as the song they'll play after the station ID. For one of the biggest markets in the United States, this is really disappointing radio. It is only a matter of time before the repetition gets to be too much and they change formats. So Dante says the eighth level of Hell includes fraudulent rhetoric? Then I've found the eighth level of Hell...at 93.7FM. It's called the Walton and Johnson Show. I'll admit, I don't stick to any one station in the morning. I flit from one to the other, trying to find music or interesting topics of conversation, and failing that, I'll listen to CD's. But I did often settle on Dean and Rog because I really enjoyed The Birthday Scam and Dead Guy in the Envelope. When they weren't talking about Susie's underwear, they could be pretty funny. But Walton and Johnson? Gross overgeneralizations about current affairs, scapegoating illegal immigrants, and racist, homophobic "humor". I appreciate humor in all its forms: bawdy, inappropriate, straight, deadpan, slapstick, bizarre, British..............but Walton and Johnson AREN'T EVEN FUNNY. They seem to pander to a certain far right demographic, and I don't find fault with that, because I'm not one of those people who think you're stupid or misinformed just because your political views don't match mine. But honestly, most conservatives I know don't even find W&J funny. All I can say is thank God I still live in America (though W&J seem to think otherwise), where I am free to change the radio station whenever I choose. *waves American flag* read more

Long ago I had quit listening to most of FM radio in the morning because of the inane T&A teenie-bopper IQ level of DJ talk. Tuning around I found Walton and Johnson recently. These guys are clever and have brought with them a dissenting and critical view of politics and culture that is refreshing. I like that. Very funny and entertaining. I think many people are so accustomed to being told what to think, and having swallowed the politically correct pablum for so long, are afraid they are not supposed to like to listen to this stuff. I do not think it is funny to make fun of people only because they are different or peripheral to the "norm". But it may be funny to make fun of how some people expect such special treatment just because they consider themselves a member of some special group. And it is especially entertaining to hear hypocrisy pointed-out in a funny way. Having just found this program, I haven't heard much of it yet, but I have never heard anything from Walton & Johnson that was homophobic or racist yet, as one of the reviewers suggests exists. As our government is steering farther from what made this country great, and as more criminals become politicians in this age, we need more parody and dissent. The CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC etc news are all in lockstep speaking the "Pravda" line. I support those who are brave enough to speak truth (real truth not pravda-truth), whether through news or through entertainment. Walton & Johnson seem to me to be doing that. About 20 or so years ago, the Classic Rock format was first broadcast in Houston. It was an AM station and supposedly the first classic rock station in the country. That station has long since fallen by the wayside and been successively replaced by a handful of stations whose playlists have gotten more and more restricted. KKRW is just the latest example of this. This isn't "classic rock", it's "classic hits". The same hits. Over and over. And over. For classic ALBUM rock in the Houston, check out KACC 89.7. ALL radio stations need to broaden their line of music, I get tired of them all after a while. I'll take a break, then come back when I can stand their endless chatter and limited music choices. All the talent in the world (even right here in Texas) and they pick FIVE songs to play repeatedly. But I did thoroughly enjoy Dean, Rog & Susie - their humor was very often straight off the cuff, and they were very funny. To keep a live show going with such fresh, unexpected humor was always entertaining. For the lady that said it was for adults not children, umm....have you LISTENED to some of the other stations?? I am mortified by the music for the age group they are entertaining, let alone anything else they have on the air. It made Dean & Rog look family oriented, believe me. If I could give this station minus stars I would. Although I like the music (I'm in my early 40's), their morning show is beyond HORRIBLE! They are racist, chavanistic IDIOTS!!! As a woman, I found the show extremely degrading and the two dj's are extremely uninformed and simplistic in their views of life. Not much has changed in ten years. When I lived in Houston in about 2002 my dad used to play this lame ass station all the doo daw day in the truck while complaining that they do nothing but play five minute snippets of songs and ten minutes of commercials (or at least it seemed like it). Dad, all you gotta do is change the station genius! Anyway, even at age fifteen I could honestly say it was the worst classic rock station I'd ever come across. KPUS in Corpus, while not perfect, was definitely more tolerable. I listened to The Arrow the other day on iHeart to give it a chance, and sadly (and humorously) I felt jolted back to my adolescence. I listened for about five mintues... NOTHING BUT COMMERCIALS!!! I'm a regular station hopper on iHeart, and I can honestly say I have never, never, ever found a classic rock station (or any radio station for that matter) as shitty as The Arrow. I miss Dean and Rog terribly. Work night shift in a hospital, so always found them a nice switch for that hour drive home, I would giggle and laugh to myself all the way, birthday scams were hilarious. No its not a childs radio station, I wouldn't let my young child listen to them either, but I am very grown, and they were definitely good for a laugh. Will certainly follow them to new station in June, hope they keep up the laughs, in this day and time, we all need a good laugh every once in a while read more

You say the morning show is horrible. There must be a reason it stuck around as long as it has. Because it brings ratings and advertising dollars to Clear Channel. That's all these corporate radio people care about. If it were so offensive, yes it would've been gone a long time ago. But thats what these companies want.. push the envelope.. but not too far. W&J's show came to Houston on CC's KLOL, when it changed to Spanish, Cumulus picked them up for 97.5 and later 103.7, they landed back at CC at 950AM then moved to 93.7 because the demand is there. I'm hispanic and have never heard anything on their show that offended me. A lot of things they have said are true or have enlightened me in one way or another. Only the closed mined person would be offended to anything they say. And sometimes what they say is pure BS. W&J's approach is satire. You have to be able to see the humor as well... after all it is a morning show. They are now off of The Arrow because CC is looking to take the station in a new direction. They did well for their shift but the other dayparts.. not so much.. Rumor has it a format change is a possibility. Could go sports/talk.. only time will tell. Guess The Eagle is giving The Arrow quite a run for its money. Thats another problem with corporate radio in itself.. they will run a format into the ground if it works and there's no competition. They will let it get stale and excruciatingly repetitious, unimaginative and unentertaining and try to cash in on it with as little effort put into it as possible, because it's cheaper to run that way. More money in their wallets... but we allow it. Remember when radio was fun to listen to? Each station seemed to have a personality or feel all its own? They all seem to sound the same these days.. because it takes talent and imagination to build a station to that. That costs money.. no way is big corporate going to pay for that. i came across this thread on a google search. i don't live in houston. i live in new orleans. walton and johnson are played on a classic rock station that is owned by clear channel communications. so i will butt in and give my opinion. if walton and johnson are racist then so is chris rock. they poke fun at sterotypes, politics, and current events. i can't believe this is what this country has come to... a bunch of cry babies complaining over every little thing that they don't agree with. go write your congressman! read more
