From the staff to the food to their detox and naturopathic programs - it is all put in place for the patients to succeed and to give them an atmosphere to land on their feet, feel good in their body and take back their power. They have awesome group outings at least once a day, a beautiful big outdoor space (grass, pool, basketball court, gardens), they have art and music to access at all times. You'll meet local healers and you're being helped by other experienced humans who may know just what you're going through and how to navigate that realistically and healthy. Humaning can be a bit much and it affects us all differently especially as we transition and progress in our journey. ATMC was totally necessary for me on so many different levels, main one I believe was it distanced me from systems and relationships (people, substances, places) and gave me new routine, perspective and community. I encourage that if you have found ATMC to trust intuition and go for this opportunity! Sometimes we need to step back to go further. Healing is not linear and it takes time. I entered suffering with BIND ((Benzodiazepine Induced Neurological Dysfunction), the unfortunate result of taking routine anxiety medication for just a few short weeks in early October. It wrecked my brain and I was not functioning well in any capacity. Not sleeping, lost 30 lbs, very sick, pacing 14 hours a day. Thoughts every day of taking my life ATMC was the 3rd treatment center I tried, and they saved my life. In the end, the answer for me (and many others I met there) was a holistic combination of informed supplementation, rigorous detoxification protocols, exercise, sauna, individual CBT work, group therapy and top-notch nutrition. The grounds were clean and beautiful, accommodations homey, and the food delicious. I loved the optional daily nature outings and many sight-seeing trips around Sedona. I would recommend ATMC to anyone in medication withdrawals or poor health. I will never forget my time here, the passionate staff of skilled care providers, or the dear friends I made.

I was in treatment at "P" House for four months for issues with relationship, intimacy and sexual…read moreproblems. It is in fact a very community-based facility. That means living in a community with other men from all different walks of life, geographic areas, age differences, gender and/or sexual preferences. In reminds me somewhat of a military organization, in that people from all walks of life, economic positions, careers, etc. live together. This is in fact part of the treatment in learning how to become tolerant, share community responsibilities, self-govern (to a limited extent), and become a contributing member of a community. For some it is difficult, in that they have never had the experience or requirements to do so. It's about growth on an individual basis, in relational and interpersonal skills, in self-confidence, reliance on others, and examining the basis of your specific issue. Whether it's a substance or process addiction, there are many similar foundational actions, behaviors, traumas that contribute to our (clients) issues and helps build a bond between us (clients). One of the strengths of the organization is that nearly everyone of the staff, both support and therapists have been clients at Prescott House and are in recovery themselves. This gives them incredible "street creds", as they have been on the clients end and understand the issues the clients are dealing with. They also know how to get a client to look at themselves, take responsibility, learn how to change behaviors, thoughts, actions, and alternatives to the substance/process of choice. They are active in also working with the family of the clients, (those left to sit in the mess we left), and provide a space for family members to share the impact on them and integration back into the family, with boundaries, relapse prevention programs, relationship building plans. They also use whole person approach with using various outside practitioners, from spiritual advisors, fitness/health growth, life coaching/yoga, outside activities, meditation and mindfulness classes. These are things that helped me while a client and after when back home repairing relationships that have caused trauma of various levels, benefits of continuing individual treatment plans and Twelve Step programs. This also includes building support networks both with other clients here at P House and back in our own community. I have built some very close relationships here that will be in my life for a very long time. If you are really ready to do something about your addiction, the impact on your life and the life of countless others and do some hard work and return to have a meaningful life, and enjoy each day as a gift, then I recommend that you give serious consideration to seeking treatment at Prescott House. Can your life change? Yes. Will it be overnight? No, but each day you can continue to grow a little, enjoy life and be grateful. Bob G

A Haven of Healing: My Journey at Havenhealth of Cottonwood…read more There are moments in life when, what seems like misfortune, reveals itself as a true blessing. Breaking my ankle ultimately brought me to Havenhealth of Cottonwood Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility, where I discovered not just exceptional care, but a community that became family. From the moment you enter, you feel the difference. Executive Director Cody Nielsen leads with genuine compassion and professional leadership expertise, creating a culture where healing thrives. The administrative team--Afton, Donna, Taylor, Tyler, Annabelle, Angelina, Sophia, Mikhaela, Corina, and Rebecca--handles the complex admin duties of healthcare with warmth and efficiency that puts residents at ease. What makes Havenhealth extraordinary is how staff always go beyond their job descriptions. Transport Driver, Pam White, embodies this spirit, consistently going beyond logistics to deliver care and running errands (or accompanying patients at church services) that deeply touches hearts. Similarly, Maintenance Supervisor Cory quietly ensures every detail of the environment supports healing, taking on countless tasks with humility and quiet dedication. The nursing staff exemplifies professional excellence with personal connection. Unit Supervisor, Mel, coordinates care that addresses both medical needs and human dignity. Medication Nurses,Liz and Jolene, administer meds and treatments with precision and reassurance. Meanwhile, the CNAs work tirelessly through long shifts--Lily, Amber, Alexia, Chatom, Courtnie, Bobby, and numerous others, including students in their impressive training program--providing the hands-on care that makes daily life comfortable and dignified. Rehabilitation at Havenhealth truly transforms lives. Under Stacee Peltz's compassionate and impressive direction, therapists Shaeleen, Elaine, Susan, Karen, Johnathan, and Brian combine expertise with encouragement, celebrating each milestone in recovery. Their approach recognizes that healing involves a true holistic approach involving body, mind, and spirit. The Community Courtyard Therapy Gardens, created in loving memory of "Bill," offer a unique healing space where residents participate in gardening--planting, watering, and harvesting organic produce while earning occupational therapy credits. These gardens create a peaceful sanctuary where healing happens naturally among flowers and herbs. Even the supportive services shine with exceptional care. Michelle's full-service salon helps residents maintain dignity and self-image. The culinary team led by Dena, with Mike, Mary Lou, and Desiree, creates nourishing meals that comfort and sustain. Shannon's meticulous housekeeping ensures an environment where cleanliness contributes to healing and wellbeing. And Ginger, the Activity Director, and Tony, President of the Resident Council, ensure days are filled with meaning and community. What began as months of rehabilitation following a broken ankle became one of life's greatest gifts. Havenhealth of Cottonwood delivers a standard of care unmatched in the Verde Valley--not just in medical excellence, but in the human connection that truly heals. ALL employees function as part of a real humanitarian team...functioning beyond the basics to earn pay. Patients feel the attitudes of "giving back" and deeply-felt respect and gratitude for each person's special situations. I arrived as a patient and left with an extended family I might never have otherwise known. Thank you, Haven of Cottonwood, for showing me that sometimes our greatest wounds lead us to our most profound healing.

Then there was a patient who had his right side of his face black and purple. When somebody inquired, they said he did it to himself. No sense of remorse, has lied to that person's face and the patient was not able to speak for himself at that point. Then there was a patient that was removed to a dark and cluttered closet-like room because "she is going to die today anyway". The nurse said it right to a kin's face. Before she was in a room that at least have sunshine. They did not wait a single day so she can die in dignity. Then there was a patient who fell from the bed and it took around 2 hours until someone in the staff noticed. Then there was a patient who was transferred to a different faculty when it was winter and they did not send him his belongings for a month even after repeated requests from the patient's kin. When some of the things finally came one of his shoes were missing, and an expensive electronical device was missing. And the patient did not have any money to buy a new one although it was needed for daily life. Private things, coats, clothes went missing, or stolen all the time. A patient fell off a wheelchair causing serious harm. I have reported them to the police. If the police has not yet started an investigation of the whole place, I will not hesitate to report them again. The food was terrible and a patient stopped eating because the quality was so bad, hence hastening the patient's passing. It is heart breaking and a shameful place.

(skip to the last two concluding paragraphs if you're just here for the facts)…read more Be warned, I may sound a little biased but it's because this counselor has been the "Anne Sullivan" to my "Helen Keller". A "Miracle Worker", you ask quizzically. Did he just use the word quizzically, you may also ask. Let me try again... I have PTSD. It came from an incident at work and, despite that, I still work there. Events that trigger my symptoms are not uncommon. The medications that were supposed to help me back then compounded the damage that occurred during my traumatic event. During my recovery, I thought I was able to build up my mental fortitude by doing 'immersion' style exposures at home and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with another counselor but there were still muck in my mental waters. The garden of my mind had its soil overturned but the old weeds cluttered the forgotten corners had pollinated formerly healthy area. Using my works Employee Assistance Program again, I asked for help. They gave me Pamela Griggs (Counselor, LPC). And, after my first appointment, Pamela offered me a pamphlet on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I read the info she offered me, did my own research, and decided to go for it. In overly simplified terms, EMDR therapy is like mentally-focused, consciously aware 'talk' therapy. Walls, like ego, skepticism, and self-loathing that patients tend to use on their counselors can prevent perceptible improvement for months or years. EMDR is like straight up no nonsense gardening of your mind: finding the mental weeds, digging at them, throwing them out, and doing maintenance. Thanks to Pamela, I was not overwhelmed by what I have been through. If not for her, I may have ended up divorced or incarcerated due to the inevitable downward spiral that I was on. She introduced me to EMDR and utilized it to address various issues that were presented and that resurfaced due to my PTSD. I know that she put ME first when it came to the insurance red tape. Though some weeks I desired a short-notice appointment and she was not available, I knew that she be there for me 100% whenever we did a session. Pamela's current location is not the best but that means nothing compared to what she's done to help me and the rest of her patients. If you are tired of talk therapy or have given up on counseling or therapy, make an appointment to do EMDR with Pamela. If she's not local to you, find an EMDR practitioner near you and get help. You're worth it.
