First session--The door to the clinic was locked when I got there. I called several times, knocked on the door. Finally I get let into the building 10 minutes after the session was scheduled to start. During the session, I raise my concern (which was why I scheduled an appointment in the first place) that I may have ADHD, given a long list of life experiences and family history. Without doing any specific evaluation, the therapist said that my experiences could be explained by Generalized Anxiety Disorder and starts planning treatment for that, refusing to do any evaluation for ADHD. My therapist did not go into detail on the more relevant areas I was coming to see. She skipped over sections like educational history, saying that what I said in the session implied that had no longstanding education difficulties. However, educational difficulties have persisted all my life, simply covered up by high achievement and grades--difficulties that I lost the opportunity to disclose. My impetus for seeking therapy was dismissed in the first session. There were other concerning practices during the session. The GAD diagnosis as a differential for ADHD was done because it was "easier" to diagnose. Most symptoms were tracked by a likert scale, which is not bad in itself. However, it was these closed responses alone that were used to make the GAD diagnosis. Additionally, one of the questions for the intake was along the lines of "do you experience obsessions or compulsions," and said I was unsure what those meant in a clinical context. The therapist responded by saying that someone who experiences those would know what the words mean. Not understanding the jargon related to a symptom is not a sign that one does not have that symptom. Imagine you go to a doctor and say that your dad and brother both have a genetic joint disease and that you too believe you may have it. You list off all the symptoms (joint dislocation, frequent fractures, chronic pain) and ask if the doctor can screen you for it. Then the doctor says "I think you just have a sprained ankle, that's easier to diagnose" and starts trying to get you to do physical therapy. To round it all off, the session only went until the hour mark, meaning I got 50 minutes out of a 60 minute session. That's almost $50 worth of time. I would ultimately recommend anyone seeking any sort of diagnostic evaluations to look elsewhere. read more

Dr Paris was recommended by a friend when Essentia and several other psychologists in town could not get my daughter in for an evaluation with neuropsychological testing quickly enough for our tight summer schedule. Dr Paris was very thorough and professional. She conducted the lengthy neuropsych testing herself and wrote up a detailed comprehensive report. She met with our daughter and then included us when appropriate to review results. She answered all of our questions and even deferred to our family Dr where appropriate. She's smart, thorough and knows her limits too. APS is a beautiful clinic and handled scheduling, reminders and referrals efficiently. I'd recommend the clinic and Dr Paris without reservation. read more

Worst experience ever. Carl Saxon, the doctoral intern had no idea what he was doing and Dr. Dave Plude the Licensed Psychologist/Supervisor assisted with my future demise. The testing was so flawed, like a 3rd grade dot-to-dot test. Reports were late. I've struggled with chronic, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety. I have two daughters diagnosed with ADHD so I thought I would get tested in hopes that a medication would help me with my problems and I would be able to function better. I've been unable to hold a job, relationship issues, reckless driving, trouble relaxing, etc. All the symptoms are there but they said no. Well, first the psychologist told me yes and then I went to my prescribing doctor for medication and he called her and told her no. omg. I really think I'm going to end it all. I was in bad shape before I went there but now I'm really 10x worse. They are playing with people's lives and I don't know if I can come out of this. Huge betrayal. I'm so sad and I put my trust in them. I feel so lied to and after seeing my report I feel so disgusted. I just want to die. read more

Established in 1984.

Arrowhead Psychological Clinic began providing out patient mental health services in 1983 when it opened with a single practitioner Walter Plude MS,LP. As the practice grew and needed more space, APC moved into the medical arts building, where Walters wife Diedre Plude MA, LP joined as a clinician. In 2008 Dr David Plude purchased APC as Walter and Diedre neared retirement. In 2010, David’s spouse, Shelley Plude MSW, LICSW joined clinic. In 2015 the Plude’s purchased the new clinic location at 715 E Central Entrance where it resides today.

Meet the Business Owner: David P.

Dr David Plude, PsyD, LP, CEO has been working at APC since 1992. He is a native Duluthian that literally grew up in the Business. After completing his Doctoral degree in 1999 Dave took on greater responsibility in his families clinic and eventually purchased the practice in 2007. David has greatly enjoyed working with thousands of individuals and families over the years as well as providing clinical supervision to numerous local practitioners and trainees. One of his favorite occupational adventures occurred in 2015 when he and his wife, Shelley Plude, MSW, LICSW purchased the Building at 715 E Central Entrance, in Duluth. Creating a modern, professional facility with private parking and lots of green space in the middle of Duluth has been very rewarding for them and a comfortable place for their team and clientele.

If you are having problems like…read moreI did with lack of communication, incomplete billing, duplicate billing, miscoding, billing of different amounts for the same service, or refusal to send through insurance you can file a complaint with the Minnesota Attorney General: https://www.ag.state.mn.us/Office/Forms/ConsumerAssistanceRequest.asp If the AG receives enough complaints they investigate and can bring charges. For me, this wasn't enough because the AG could not compel them to file through insurance so I had to file a separate complaint through my insurance for the lack of filing as well as miscoding. It finally got resolved, but I needed all of these agencies to finally pay my bill without being constantly threatened with collections. You can also file a complaint with the BBB. I wish you luck!

I started seeing my therapist ending of last year. I was completely honest with the lady in charge of billing(no longer works for this company) and told her my high deductible and what I could afford along with how it would work out with my deductible. She said don't worry about it and she'll figure it out. I tried to have this Conversation multiple times. She never handled it. She no longer works for the company. So I had to deal with it with a another person who also no longer works for the company and made arrangements for it to be taken out of my checks. Today I was informed my weekly visits will now be nearly $200 a visit or I can no longer be seen by my therapist. This was also from the office manager katie. I was paying what I can with little left to survive in the first place. Now I will no longer be able to be seen by the one therapist I actually enjoyed visiting. This place is only after money and rather not help people succeed in life.

They were too lazy to help me so they told me to go to Essentia emergency room. Everyone there was super friendly from the security team that reviews you and scans you before going in (honestly it made me feel safer knowing everyone had to go through a scan) and I faced the receptionist, I'm sure she was busy (but she even checked her phone) before addressing me, which was a little annoying but I'm sure she had a good reason, I was patient, and she was very nice once she spoke to me, and we both laughed together, so she good in my book. I sat down in the waiting area and withing 30 seconds I was called on by a friendly assistant. She took me to a room where a nurse asked me basic questions, like why I'm there. Then she took me to a room with a bed and I put on a gown for easier access for the team, no biggie. Then I waited for 30 minutes about 4 times, the same (very lovely) nurse coming in and asking questions, I feel like this process could've been a little faster. Finally the IV team came in and started the procedure. They were great to talk to, we laughed. And they set everything up to standard. At mayo, they didn't numb me very much. Here they gave me a lot of lidocaine so I didn't feel anything, what a difference! I didn't even know she was in my veins. They had trouble with the homing sensor but that's not they're fault, just technology. My guy troubleshooted it quick with the 'ol unplug and replug technique. The while procedure was about 15 minutes long and they did a textbook setup and procedure. At mayo I felt pain and they had difficulties with me. At Essentia they had no problems and I didn't even know when the tube was in my vain or how they opened it up. Before I knew it they said "okay we'll wrap this up now" I was shocked honestly, that was it? And they wrapped it with a coil for slack incase anything happens. And with stronger bandages. Mayo didn't do this which is why it failed. Shout out for the emergency team nurses and IV staff for they're crazy good work and politeness. 10/10

We wanted to get him seen before we went to Canada, and this was the closest spot we had in the moment. They put the "urgent" in urgent care. He was seen almost immediately. They diagnosed the problem and prescribed medication which we were able to get on site at the pharmacy there. The pharmacy was even lightning fast! While you hope to never have to go, urgent care is a great option and they do it well. Superior care! Pun intended.
