Art Escudellers is a huge shop featuring ceramics and contemporary glass, over 2 floors. There was lots of selection, plenty of colours and styles, and many Spanish regions represented. Prices seemed reasonable, craftsmanship appeared to be good, and there were lots of attractive pieces to consider. At the same time, I found this place overwhelming and left interested, yet frustrated. The Lesson I learned here was that I prefer buying my gift items at the source and in small and quaint locales. And even with this "end of the trip" last chance, I was OK in taking a pass here and opting for other options as we wandered on. Gayle was also watching me closely. She gently reminded me that we already had a full house and that I needed to make a good case on how we would ultimately use any particular choice. And since I couldn't sneak anything past her on either side of the cash register, that was the end of that!

If you visit only one shop on your sojourn to Barcelona, make it this one. An enormous emporium of household arts and crafts and other goods, everything contained within is native to Spain, most of it to the region. Little placards tell the artist and location of origin. I appreciated knowing the provenance of the items as I contemplated my purchases. You will find something for everyone on your souvenir list, and plenty for yourself. They are particularly strong on ceramics. Some of the pieces are simple, some elaborate; many are gorgeous. I fell in love with a charmingly folksy mirror (see photo), for which I still regret not ponying up the cash to purchase and ship. I did come away with a few gifts for friends and family, and a nice blue and white swirl-patterned bowl, which I use for breakfast almost every day. It's only a small representation of the fantastic craftsmanship and artistry available at this impressive store, but it will always remind me of the trip and the beautiful things that we saw. Do not miss.

Love this store - unique products, beautiful ceramics, and lots of them. They ship to the US, too - fast service, arrived within a few days.

Believe as the lady told me this is the last standing "mall" of department stores in Spain?…read more It was crazy, hectic and uber busy! Bathroom is on the top floor in the corner, and yes guaranteed line! They however offer so many different brands at diff price levels and sales. There is a ton of staff manning every station, perfumes, designer bags, women's wear, men's wear, shoes and sneakers, dresses, suits, mens separates, kids etc. they have hair salon within, honestly I was hot, there was a group of female pickpockets that were roaming inside so keep your head on a swivel, busy hectic space, close quarters-- prime time for pickpockets. We were warned by another family while shopping that they witnessed it and they pointed the thieves out to me.

El Corte Inglés is Spain's only remaining traditional national department store chain, pretty cool. I love the clothing brands they offer here. At first, I thought all of their clothes would be super expensive but actually they have a lot of reasonably priced, good quality pieces! The first floor has some popular bag brands like Longchamp, Bimba y Lola, and more. Honestly, I wished we had something like this in the U.S. 9 floors of goodies!
