I remember this city back in the day when the college was going strong and the city was always buzzing with something going on. They still have activities and there are several new business which have sprung up over the last several years. All in all it's still a very nice place to live and bring up a family.

My parents have had the same cabin on Big Spirit Lake since 1970. A lot of good times have been had…read morein those 40+ years and bringing Gayle and my son up again continues the magic of this place. Paradise also has responsibilities including garbage disposal and recycling. The City of Spirit Lake has a convenient 24 hour facility just behind the Fareway for glass, plastic, tin, cardboard, and paper. And you'll find me there at least a couple times during my stay. My only qualms with this place is that the paper and glass bins are way on the other side of the lot from the other recyclables and that I still have to separate everything. The video surveillance also makes me wonder sometimes....

If your looking to retire some place where there is little or no crime, where your social security…read morechecks will pay the rent, where you can relax then this is the place. If you want to raise a family, send your kids to good schools, a place where your kids can play outside or walk to the post office or the grocery store without being molested, kidnapped or worse then this is the place. The people here are friendly, helpful and care about each other. This is a town where everybody knows everybody. It's a nice place, I used to live here.

To this day people continue to say that's the reason I'm a little crazy, but then I do have a GTH attitude. Anyway the City of Cherokee, Ia. is a very nice place. The people are very friendly and when you walk outside your house and the neighbor is there, they will say hello and chat with you for awhile. Much better than where I am now. Walk outside and the other person turns their back on you. This city has one of the biggest parks I have ever seen in my life. It has a river running through it, along with a spring filled lake, lots of picnic areas for you to spend a nice Sunday afternoon along with areas for softball, etc. Nuff said, I'm getting long winded.
