My co-worker and I were looking for a fun place to go and stumbled on this gem. If I'm staying in this part again I'll definitely be back. The local artist have art displayed in a tasteful way throughout the restaurant. There are big picture windows that provide natural light. We got food off of the restaurant week price fixed menu. The mini charcuterie boards, fried polenta, tuna tartare, and flank steak all worth getting again. If you want a tasty drink but have to drive try the hungry hippo. Super refreshing and doesn't have booze. If you want a boozy drink try I know the owner. I'm not a huge vodka person and I thought it was very good. read more

I had the good fortune of seeing these guys at Art Basel Miami, and have followed their shows since the first Basel in a grassy lot a few years back. I stopped by their temporary space tonight and enjoyed the same quality graphic-novel type art I am used to.This kind of art reminds me of the decor of my favorite Baltimore guilty pleasure, Paper Moon :) I'm digging the robot sculptures and gummy bear paintings at this year's Art Basel..see y'all next year! read more

Love this place. We always stop in here if we're by the National Harbor and if it's open. I love looking at the different creations throughout the gallery, and their array of toys, books/print and mixed media pieces always impresses me. Seems like every time I walk in there are new pieces, too. The space is small, but they use it effectively and move things around from time to time. It is quiet, not usually too busy so I can enjoy the art and walk around by myself without interruption. Definitely a must-see if you are a fan of art. Small but packs a punch. Food is great. Service is spotty, I have been here more than 5 times and decided just too loud. Sat at the bar a few times and either received average service or nothing at all. A hip, cool young art gallery. Awesome place. This is an art gallery that exhibits works for sale. They also have a strong selection of modern artist in their database. The gallery space is small, but they space is well used. They work with allot of new artist and well respected artists. Typically they have young people working here, which i believe to be a mistake. The few time I have had question they usually can not answer my questions about the art or artists. They often have solo exhibits of artists. Usually kicked off by an evening opening, with the artist. They do serve beer and wine here, so openings have drinks associated with them. They also sell unique hand crafted toys. Typically priced for $100 -$500 for one piece. i have bought one oil painting here and some small memorabilia. keep in mind that this a gallery opposed to an art store, so if you buy something in an exhibit, you cant just take it home. So you have to come back and pick it up after the exhibit is over. read more

We popped in for some appetizers and thoroughly enjoyed the scene. The ambience is full of energy, hustle bustle and the excitement of people having a fun night out. The host and manager came by and personally acknowledged us. The drinks and apps were delicious. We didn't get a chance to stay for dinner but we enjoyed the the good times, the cozy and vibrant atmosphere and the spectacle that is art combined with food combined with drink. Congratulations to the owners for creating an environment that says celebration yet is accessible with delicious food. My brother is the art buyer in my family. That being said, I'm not so much for visiting art galleries but I've been to enough to see how this gallery holds up to others I've seen. This gallery is on the small side, but it holds a lot of artwork. The gallery has a modern feel which is matched with the equally contemporary artwork. There is an area in the corner where they sell cheaper, affordable art items which might be good for a young (by young I mean under 12) artist. I recently came here to a showing for an artist who was revealing his new collection. They had small snacks and cockails and a meet and greet with the artist. His work was also on sale. Overall, the pieces on sale at this gallery are quite on the affordable side (for artwork.) If you are into buying art - especially contemporary modern art - this should really be a place you check out. read more

Cute, modern, quirky, eclectic gallery/shop in the midst of the National Harbor area. I love it! Walking by, they had what I thought were Ugly Dolls hanging in the windows. Upon peeking inside, we realized that all of the artwork, including the dolls were completely independent. It was cool to see local art on different mediums (skate decks, police armor, etc.) Staff was friendly and there was something for everyone. They had pieces that were extremely affordable ($20 and under) and others that were a little bit out of my price range ($1,000+)... This gallery is pretty large, it will take you a while to look through everything...But definitely take the time to stop in, I know that you'll find something interesting to take home. I love the local, original flavor that this adds to the somewhat bland, generic National Harbor scene. A Starbucks could have just as easily been in this spot, but Art Whino definitely helps to keep the local scene alive and kicking. Support local artists and businesses! read more

Went to Dragon76 art show at Whino and everything was amazing. The aesthetic was very hip and the event was very lively. chef Terry's menu was chefs kiss tried the ricotta gnocchi, and secret spice chicken and they were both amazing. Best dish was def the porchetta! I wish I got the correct spelling of her name but Aiyanna, the bartender, had such a great personality and made drinking at the bar so much fun. She was so attentive but was so good at building rapport and her smile/hair was everything. Met the owner Shane and it felt like he was welcoming us into his home. Would def come back here! read more

I went to visit Art Whino for the Jako exhibit. I really like this gallery, not only for it's great layout, but also for the type of art they present. All of their art is lowbrow art or what some people call Pop Surrealism. (If you don't know what lowbrow art is, look up artists like Mark Ryden, Lori Earley, or Marion Peck to name a few of my favorites. You can also see their website at www.artwhino.com, but the art on their site really doesn't do justice to seeing the art in person, so I highly recommend you go in person if you like this kind of stuff. Anyway, we went there on a Friday evening at around 10 pm. When you climb the long stairs to the top, you can hear that the DJ was playing some hip-hop. They also had a cash bar. That part wasn't too cool since I've been to some galleries that have an open bar, but this was a very large gallery with many people, so I can understand. There were 3 main rooms, but art is everywhere, including their permanent collection. The back room is the largest and they have "couches" in the middle for you to kick-back, people watch, and enjoy your surroundings. What was even more cool was that the people who attended seem to be really hip and not, at all, the typical, stuffy, art crowd. I hate the word "hipster," but that's what many were....:) Overall, I had a really good time checking out some cool art, meeting some nice people, and finding out about this great gallery which I will visit again at future openings. read more

This gallery is geared more towards the pop-surrealist street-cool artwork, and there was plenty of it. A small yet provoking collection from various artists on display for an opening when my group and I were there tonight. Surprised that they had a cash bar for the drinks unlike some gallery openings I've been to in the District, but to each ones own. Curators were trendy hip yet really friendly and the ambiance was nice with the dim lighting and loungy DJ. A great collection of interesting and thought-provoking artwork despite the smaller space - not really my aesthetic but a great place to find edgier pieces you might be looking for. Oh. My. Glob. This place is pretty awesome, and full of modern art. I had to buy something, it was imperative. I got myself a $50 shark that's dressed like Batman. That basically sums up the kind of things you find here. Awesome designer toys, art hanging on the wall, and a Baseman art book. I love Baseman. Google him if you don't know who I'm talking about. The store is big, and while some items are expensive, it's worth it. I will so be back. read more

Art Whino is a small gallery in National Harbor. They've got a lot of cool, modern, urban-inspired exhibits. The coolest stuff, in my opinion, are the collectable toys that are for sale. Standouts include the "O-No Sushi" toys by Andrew Bell, "Toast" by Mark Giglio, and "Litle Ninja" also by Mark Giglio. The gallery seems out of place in National Harbor. I can't imagine that many of the typical conventioneers that stay in Natty Harbor would be drawn to this type of work. But, maybe I'm wrong... DC or Arlington would seem to be a more natural place for a gallery like this. read more

Art Whino is a really neat art gallery that display artworks that are modern or urban. You may see some graffiti works, Asian-inspired works and products...really just simply eclectic for the diverse patrons. I came here to check out Mauricio Murillo's "Viva La Gummy!" exhibit. His photographs were interesting and cute. You'll see photos of colored gummy bears portraying famous people, such as Pancho Villa, or scenarios, such as "Crime Scene", where the gummy bears were surrounding a decapitated fellow. Mauricio was personable and shared some of his experiences working with gummy bears. Overall, Art Whino is a fun art gallery if you like urban themes. read more

This is an amazing space with lots of incredible art. We happened upon this and picked out a few pieces with our sons. Staff was friendly and the vibe was low-back. Whino Art solidified a five star since they were playing 90s good hip-hop like Digable Planets, Mos Def which led to even more chill vibe in the already aesthetically pleasing space. We will be back and are bummed we can't make it to one of their stellar events this weekend. read more

It absolutely KILLS me to give Art Whino only 3 stars. I have been a big fan of this gallery since I first discovered them in Alexandria months ago.. the art is awesome, their events are fun and the vibe is cool. I just visited the new space in National Harbor for the first time this past weekend and was soooooo let down. The new space is much smaller and seems out of place in this outdoor shopping mall type set up that the National Harbor seems to be going for. Don't get me wrong- the art was still very cool. There was just a lot less of it. Part of the appeal (for me anyway) of the old space was that every conceivable corner that could be used was. It was clear that it was not built as a gallery and the converted building almost added to the sense that this was not a place you were going to find classical watercolor panoramic scenes in gilded frames. The new space is.. sterile? It looks like every other small gallery you have ever been to. White walls. Well spaced art. Safe. To be fair- it was set up for the FLIK festival (at least they still host great events!) so that took up a majority of the space they have. Because I appreciate them so much in all other respects, I am planning on making a point to visit again when the entire space is being used and hope to restore the missing star that they deserve! read more

National Harbor + Art + Free This gallery is great for someone to go by theirselves, on a date or with a small group. Its small but the interior offers plenty of open space and good lighting, making it a fun ambiance to enjoy non traditional art (mixed media, pop, street, surrealist, urban...). I must note, some pieces are hard to see but granted, I am 5'1. There is also small art pieces (like figures/toys and prints) for sale. Don't be surprised if you walk past and notice its doors open with music blasting, which makes it a lively place during a day they are hosting a event. I love going here and can't help but to stop by even when I visit the harbor for something else. read more

Working above Art Whino can prove to be a very dangerous thing for me. I don't think DC has enough art galleries like Art Whino and it's a nice and refreshing change. I think we could stand to bring some more of this urban art culture to the DC Metro. If I had the funds, I would purchase everything. I am never disappointed when I walk into this gallery and the biggest plus is that the staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. I have yet to attend one of their events but I will in the near future! If you're in the National Harbor this place should be a definite hard stop for more than a quick browse. read more

Funky. Came here on a whim to see Mauricio Murillo's "Viva La Gummy" solo show on opening night. It was listed on the Yelp event page last weekend, and we thought, why not? While the art style is not my usual cup-o-tea, I enjoyed seeing works which were...different. Eclectic crowd to match, techno-ish music, bar with nachos and snacks, interesting goods for sale. The gallery is definitely smaller than we expected, but there was a dancing bear (well...a guy in a bear suit) to liven up the space. Not sure how permanent a fixture he is there on opening nights. Good place to go if you want to mix up your usual plans for an evening with a friend or two. I would definitely return, but only to see a special exhibit/show - not that kind of place I would go out of my way to just drop into. read more

Great shop with quirky pop art pieces

This collection of Pop/Street/Lowbrow art was extremely cool. I attended the Rick Reese opening last weekend and it was my first visit to the venue. There were so many cool artists featured in this space, and many of them were present at the opening. I talked to some of the staff members and they let me know they do similar events once a month. Definitely worth checking out. They have a cash bar set up, some free munchies, a DJ, they had a live painting being auctioned off at midnight and they had a pretty good turn out of the young and informed. It was just a very cool vibe. A lot of very talented people have work on display.All of the art work is for sale, but I personally don't have a couple thousand dollars to shell out for such luxuries at this point. Either way, I highly recommend checking it out. read more

This gallery in my opinion tries way to hard to run with the big dogs in the art world. The artists that are exhibited by this gallery are great, no doubt. Unfortunately, this gallery does not do them justice. The gallery space is small and usually is blaring extremely loud music, which makes it impossible to carry a conversation during an artists opening event. In addition, the gallery does not offer some artists a chance - they will not exhibit abstract art and are not as open and inviting to emerging artists as they claim to be. Lastly, with knowing a few of the artists personally I have come to find that artists are not paid in a timely manner for the work that is sold by the gallery. The representatives of the gallery will push buyers to purchase art work, but unfortunately artists are not paid until many months later. As a long time art collector in the DC area, I am always searching for new and upcoming artists. Art Whino claims to promote these artists, but at what cost to their emerging careers? In my opinion, this gallery is more of a business venture for the owner that it is a career booster for artists. read more

As a young artist, I have to say Art Whino makes me very pleased. The collection had a bunch of work I'd seen in other galleries in DC, but a lot of new stuff too. I hate using terms like pop or lowbrow to define art, but those are the words I think most people might use to describe the vast majority of the work here. I'll argue with you ferociously regarding the accuracy of those words, but that's another matter. This gallery has a ton of work, a nice space, and most of what's here looks like what my friends are producing. I'll be sure to be back. This gallery is a wonderful offset to other nearby places such as the Torpedeo Factory... not that I'm putting down the TF, but the energy is way better at Art Whino. Art whino makes me want to put down my mouse an stylus and pick up a brush. For that I give 2 kudos. read more

The art here is completely modern. I stopped in on a whim because of the pieces I saw in the window, and was hooked pretty quickly. You can walk around to admire and purchase pieces from different artists. Not sure if they are local artists, but I think they might be. Among the collection I found books for sale, including different artist's sketchbooks. An eclectic collection; fits in well with the other shops in the Harbor. Some of the pieces are so unusual that I can't help but say I'll be stopping in another time soon! read more

This fun, eclectic art gallery -- as much museum as store -- has a little bit of everything, from paintings, drawings, sculpture, unique 'toys' (think funky figurines and action figures that're more for collecting than playing with), etc. The prices range -very- widely, but are mostly on the pricey side. The staff generally keeps quietly to themselves, but are warm and friendly when engaged. The store often has live or DJ'd music, and drinks and snacks (sometimes free, sometimes not) and general giveaways. On these nights, it's an open-to-the-public party that I think serves to highlight the store as well as show off 'audio art' from local musicians. read more

So there was a promo code on Instagram for Free Shipping on their online shop and I went ahead made a small purchase. In the order notes I made sure I had put in the code and selected "In-store pickup" but still filled out my address since the promo code wouldn't show the cost as $0.00. After waiting a whole week without ever getting an shipping notification or any sort of commuication, I emailed them and asked if everything turned out ok. After 3 business days with no response, I decided to give Art Whino a call. I spoke with a women who said the promo code only works for orders over $50 (the IG post never said anything about that). She offered to refund me through Paypal despite the fact that I paid with my credit card. I actually didn't want a refund onto a Paypal account that I no longer use because it makes it inconvenient to transfer it back into my bank but I decided to accept her offer anyways, just to try to make things easier. She was on an computer at the time we were discussing this so I was expecting the refund immediately but no, it took a day to come in through Paypal. Not only did I have to wait 11 days to get my money back, it turns out less than I paid for. Alex sent me my money on Paypal for 'Goods and Services' and not as a 'Gift' as if I sold them something. I had to pay the fee of 2.9% + $0.30 to get my refund back. Later, I hit them back on Instagram since they had just posted something and said that some of my refund went missing and Shane comments back "Wtf?". (I had to ask twice to get the commenter's, they seemed to be dodging it because they were commenting on other's posts until I asked the second time.) The comment that followed said to email them or contact gallery. If it wasn't rude enough to comment "wtf" to someone, the reply didn't even tell me what the email was. I had to comment again for the email and once I found out it was the same one I already emailed and was ignored, I decided to drop the whole thing.They can keep the money the just pinched without ever shipping any items. Art Whino carries a lot of things I like and I could have easily met the $50 minimum requirement on my next order but their business practices aren't good and I wouldn't dare to return, especially on a bigger order. Unfortunately I had to wait 11 days to get my refund for less than I paid - I probably wouldn't have received it back at all if I hadn't said anything... read more

Quirky & fun little gallery with great staff. I've been in a handful of times when I'm in town for work and have met a couple different employees that have been very helpful each time. Good conversation and they share interesting info about the artists. There's one woman that works there that remembers me and sends me an email every time they get new Ron English stuff because she knows I always buy a new piece when I visit. This is such a unique shop where I come for gifts for my nephews. I want to continue my roll of being the "cool" uncle so I've bought a few really interesting, off-the-wall type characters in the form of stuffed animals. There are also action-figures, but not the ones you and I grew up with. The entire inside has an urban vibe, a graffiti usps drop box, art (I'm assuming some of it local) all over the walls, and friendly staff. They have cool t-shirts too that i've purchased in the past. Overall a cool vibe in what seems like an untapped storefront at the National Harbor. read more
