Never assume anything is what I learned from the mishap. I am very impressed with the covide 19 protocol and the friendliness / patience of the front reception. And the detail care/instruction and attention from the dental staff are superb. I am also happy with Caroline's professionalism. The dentist had a mishap and how he and Caroline dealt with that subsequently - were professional and wonderful. Dentist Sasan assured me that great care would be given. And on my last appointment (implant surgery), as before, I was provided information about the implant procedure and the post actions after the surgery. In addition, Dentist Sasan provided me three prescriptions just in case if any discomforts are experienced. I am so glad of this, as pain came much later. Thank god I got the prescriptions filled immediately after the surgery. At my previous dental place, no prescriptions were given and I had to wait till the next day to get anything. I even had to make an appointment to get some relief. :-/ I especially like the implant pre-estimate and its steps (and its costs) to put an implant in place.. Getting the pre-estimate that includes the insurance coverage from my previous dentist was like pulling one's teeth without anesthesia. They had to wait for few weeks before insurance coverage could be given. At Arta Dental, I get the estimate right away. I definitely don't like surprises. Also, I am not at the dentist to be entertained. Vancouver Cosmetics seems to think telling jokes every forty seconds is a normal thing. It's one thing to have a normal friendly conversation, but to do it during the procedure? After having few appointments with Dentist Sasan indicate to me - that great care and attention are provided (except for the mishap). The doing, the checking, and the verifying are so important and that is what Dentist Sasan had done. Thank goodness for his checking; otherwise, the mishap would have gone wrongly. In addition, at first, I thought I was being avoided, because no cleaning appointments were scheduled for me, so I assumed the worst. Caroline assured me that wasn't the case. Some just came for one thing and nothing else. I FEEL the dental service I ahd received was upgraded to several levels. I do feel like I had gone into a country club where the dental staff considers that the utmost importance is to give great dental care. The place is well ventilated and carefully decorated - seemingly - and I appreciate that quite a bit. The environment definitely helps to relax me as a patient and relieves any anxiety. This is a nice office in a convenient location. However, they have a rotating door of doctors there for cross-training. Everytime I've had work done, I got a new, unfamiliar doctor. It was impossible to develop trust or comfort in anyone there. I suppose if you have great teeth, this is not a bad place for your regular check ups. For myself, the dental office is scary enough without having to deal with the uncertainty of different dentists poking around. read more

If you asked me to rate this place a year ago, I would have given it a 1-star or 2-star. There were quite a few frustrating incidents for me at this dentist, but they seemed to be trying and are actually improving. So I am hoping to give them some credit in this review. Redemption #1: The main dentist here is Dr Siew. I like him; I think he's a good person. He usually has an associate dentist. Last year, this was an older Caucasian guy - let's called him Dr A (I forgot his name). He did my fillings and he was terrible. I had to go somewhere and had no extra time to spare, but he spent 2 hours on 2 simple fillings. Halfway through the process, probably because he was too slow, Dr Siew took over. From beginning to end, Dr A did not stop talking... nonsense at first, and then shameless flattery to Dr Siew (almost nauseating for the bystander). I was not happy with this at all. Christine, the office manager, always cheerful and friendly (I like her), gave me a $200+ electric tooth brush set. I take bribes. Decided to give them another chance. Also, it seems that they've gotten rid of Dr A. Yay. The new dentist who sees me and sometimes did my latest fillings was an Asian girl who looks very young (but probably actually ~30). I like her; she's very professional, quick, and doesn't cause discomfort (this is hard to do). No complaints now. Redemption #2: Incident from #1 story led to a bill of $500. My work gives me really good dental benefit so this was totally unexpected. Turned out, they signed me up for the fillings without giving me a price estimate beforehand. As a patient I don't want them to assume that I can afford random $500 fillings, and I'd expect them to tell me if a procedure goes over my coverage, so maybe I can wait till next year. The receptionist girl forgot. I talked to Christine in a constructive manner (how they can improve from a business perspective) and then explained why I was unhappy about this. I like her attitude - she took it graciously and apologized profusely. From then on, I ALWAYS got an estimate before every appointment. Redemption #3: The wait times. It used to be really bad. Now it's getting better. ______________________________ PROs: I like the dental hygienists. They're really nice and they do a good job. I also like the online confirmation system - phone calls can get annoying. I like the friendliness of the staff, especially the office manager (she listens!). Convenient location. Agree with the previous reviewers, Christine is abrupt and needs to work on customer service skills. The clinic recommended procedures that I didn't need, according to a second opinion at a highly acclaimed dentist. I wasn't planning on bringing it up or complaining but Christine wouldn't leave me alone about it. Life savers. I broke a tooth at 6 PM the night before a 2-week business trip. They were closing as I called, but offered to stay open for a 7:30 appointment. The dentist was professional and friendly, and they had me patched up and on my way in 90 minutes flat. I'm a complete wimp when it comes to needles, and they did a brilliant job with the Novocaine. They ground off the edges of my broken tooth, filled it and capped it, and I never felt a thing. Thanks guys! read more

My experiences (yes, plural) were so bad that I've taken my business elsewhere. On my first visit, the admin staff took FOREVER to clarify my insurance coverage. Each subsequent visit, I encountered the same delays. I saw the actual dentist, Dr. Siew only once for a pain issue. He, in broken English, explained the treatment plan. I thought I understood most of what he said. I was then shocked when the admin staff then booked me for 2 follow up appointments to have metal fillings replaced with white fillings. What does the esthetics of these fillings have to do with the ongoing pain in my mouth? It was explained that when the filling was removed on that side, they would x-ray the area to look for small cracks in the tooth. When my appointment date arrived, a "dentist" or associate or who knows what his credentials was to work on me. I mentioned that Dr. Siew said they would x-ray that side to check for cracks because of my ongoing pain concerns. This "dentist" said that wouldn't work since I'd be frozen and wouldn't feel any pain if they checked for cracks. The point was to remove the filling and x-ray it to look for the cause of my pain. When the time arrived, they changed the treatment plan making the new filling "esthetic" only and money out of my pocket. Next, they felt it would make sense to remove an impacted wisdome tooth that never came in, thinking that may be affecting my bite. When I met with the oral surgeon, he checked the area and stated it was not worth the pain and money to have it removed as it was not likely the cause of the ongoing pain. Had the surgeon not exercised common sense, I would have been out hundreds of dollars and weeks of pain and discomfort. I will never return to the clinic and recommend that you seek the services of one of the many other dentists in the area. read more

Dr Siew and his assistants have been a Gold Standard of Excellence in their dental service for me.I recently had a tooth extraction and was quite prepared for a very painful experience...however to my surprise Dr Siew made this experience painless and was very gentle removing the tooth. I hate giving negative reviews but because of the non-stop emails and phone calls I need to make you aware of what to watch for at this place. Firstly, Dr. Siew is very nice and I feel bad that he lets that awful woman run his office. I haven't been back here for a while because my last experience was such a turn off that I decided to find a new office. I had a cavity that needed a filling and my appointment was with another dentist, younger chinese guy I can't remember his name (partially due to the high rate of turnover at this office). He used a laser machine to do my filling - I thought it was pretty cool that they had this technology, never saw it before - however while he was performing the filling, Christine came to the back and started nagging him about returning the machine to its home. My mouth was wide open and I had the rubber parachute thing in there so I couldn't say anything but I was so annoyed. He wasn't even finished with my filling yet and she was more concerned with where the machine was sitting. and NO there was no other patient that needed it - I paid attention to that to see if maybe she was rushing him for someone else but she just wanted it to be pushed back to the corner.... how UNPROFESSIONAL Now let's talk about their billing practices, I happen to know a lot about my benefits and how they work (working in HR has its benefits) and I know that for every 15 minutes of dental work = 1 unit. When I looked at my invoices for cleaning she billed for 4 units when I was only in the chair for 45 minutes. I really don't like when businesses take advantage of their clients - this is no different. Christine is extremely rude and abrupt and has no people skills. This is apparent because they are always hiring I get the ads through my post-secondary institution and I've seen their job ads on craigslist. I don't like inconsistency and I can't trust this dental office and their practices. Like I mentioned, the doctors are always changing so obviously they don't treat their integral employees well either. Another problem that results from their high turnover rates is that the new reception staff KEEP CALLING me and sending me emails and text messages asking me to book an appointment. I've called in twice to ask them to remove me from their call list and let them know to note my file that I have changed offices. I was told that she did it and yet 3 months later I get ANOTHER reminder. It is borderline harassment. There are lots of great dental places in Vancouver/Burnaby - do yourself a favour and don't go to this one. read more

Christine is the reason im giving them a 1 out of 5, she is money hungry!!!!!! She is not even a dentist and was telling me that my teeth are worse then they appear to be, but when the dentist himself saw me he said its not that bad, but she butts in and was trying to get him to change his observation of my teeth saying "but she has this.. and this.. and what about this" so that she can rack up the price of the procedure. She has no people skills all she wants is MONEY, she doesnt care about anyone's teeth, she cares about the money, period. I found her unprofessional too. read more

for years i avoided dentists due to bad experiences in the past. i had an infected tooth, and knew that arta dental was right up the street, and got my sister in to get her teeth taken care of previously, so i went, and in no time they had me taken care of. amazing staff, very helpful warm and welcoming! and their dentists and dental assistants, are unbelievable. accommodating, knowledgeable, skillful, work with the patients letting them know the steps involved, and suggestions as to go about taking care of different procedures and after care. amazing place full of amazing people!!! i've recommended arta dental to a few friends already, and fully recommend that if you need dental work, to consider them first. dr. chiu has been the dentist i've been seeing, and she's a true blessing! very calming, understanding, and almost no pain throughout the times i've gone in, and if there is, she's very accommodating and wants the input of her patients. read more
