I think a lot of parents get bamboozled by nice big facilities or other factors. But, that is not what makes a good fencer. Neither does it mean that your kids will have fun. I personally know MANY young fencers that improved at a very slow rate mostly due to the club that they attended. They gave up after a couple of years and spent all this time and money for nothing. First, I can tell you that Boris, the owner of Worldwide, is genuinely a nice guy. He's a person with a lot of integrity which is somewhat rare in this business. Most clubs will only pay attention to their star fencers and the beginner fencers don't get any attention. They do this because their star players is what gets them their good reputation. So, parents send their kids to that club, thinking the club must be good. And, the kids don't have fun and don't improve at all. Let me tell you that Boris is someone who will pay personal attention to your child. That's vital. And, he's not just doing this because he just started his club. He really cares about each and every student. His private lessons will be longer than they are scheduled for. And, his group classes run over the scheduled end time as the kids love fencing and he continues to teach them. The most important factor you should consider is that Boris is an excellent technical teacher. His emphasis on form is, in my humble opinion, the best out of all the clubs in the area. (I've tried out every club.) It is what a beginner fencer needs the most when they first start out. And, it's the reason why I chose Worldwide for my kids. Anyway, like I said. Boris is very dedicated to form so that's extremely important to beginner fencers. I think it's probably the most important thing. My child has really improved because of it. Moreover, there is a great group of kids there who are pretty into fencing (instead of goofing off) at the same time, they appear to be having a lot of fun. I personally interviewed every local club in the area so if you have questions, you can private message me. I'll be honest and tell you the good and the bad. They 100% care about each athlete's growth, helping them develop not only their fencing skills but also their independence, confidence, and ability to think for themselves. One thing we truly appreciate is the flexibility to choose which competitions to attend. Even when Coach Sekou isn't able to be at every event, the preparation he provides beforehand gives my child the tools and confidence to quickly assess opponents and adapt during bouts. After each competition, he also takes the time to review videos, offering thoughtful feedback that helps the athletes continue to improve. The space is clean and light-filled -- also, it's just beautiful -- and being there feels special. It's like a boutique studio. And the pilates has been amazing. I wish this business good luck, as it just started up in September, but I had to write this…read morefeedback as the application process made me feel pressured and upset (and broke given the daycare is so much more expensive than others, yet doesn't provide meals or milk). I had a bad experience trying to register my daughter and expected infant. Apparently there were openings for my desired start dates for both kids, on Tuesday morning and when I was about to sign the forms to enroll my kids on Friday, I came to know one of the spots was taken (in the last thirty seconds of my long conversation with the owner). Turns out she didn't realize that the spots were filled. Usually this doesn't happen at Daycares. They realize what an important decision it is. They have a waitlist. You might pay to be added to the waitlist but it's at most $100, and in many daycares, there is no fee at all (for example the SOMA YMCA). At Goddard you have to pay 150 PLUS one month enrollment! It really hurt to think through this big decision just to find out that it was not a possibility for my family. Wish they told me when they gave the spot to another family, or wish they had a normal waitlist process. I think it's because the school is new and they have yet to learn from experience that you need to stay organized as daycare is so critical for families and their children. In the end, maybe it's for the best. The school is a lot more expensive than other schools. They don't offer meals other then snack. And you have to bring your own milk each day. Coming from a daycare where they provide all (very nutritious) meals and milk, I know how much more effort that would take. Other than effort, my current daycare offers lots of space, love, field trips, and all the things the Goddard promises too but they don't make you feel like you need to make a rash decision and put tons of money on the line to keep a full time job.
