My sister and I were in Hawaii for a week on vacation and we wanted to get a memorable tattoo, I called around and then I found Artistic Creations and they were so accommodating and got us in on the exact day we wanted. Nickle tattooed us, she is amazing and did it just how we wanted. She nailed the detail aspect on both of ours!
This tattoo studio delivers when it comes to personality appealing to a walk in and the creativity to fulfill what one is trying to achieve. I returned a second time to complete what Dave started and I am beyond thrilled with the results! It's a very welcoming place and when you are getting tattooed you get a gentle encouragement to reach the end of your tattoo without even knowing it's happening! I will be back.
Dave did such an amazing job with my tattoo! I told him that I wanted a Polynesian design and what I wanted incorporated into the piece. What he came up with was better than I could ever imagine! He joked around with me which made the atmosphere light. Thanks for tattooing this "princess"! Also thanks for introducing me to "It's A Wonderful Life"!
Tristan is awesome! He's really talented! Showed him my pic he drew it up! Now it's reality!! So happy! UPDATE!! My tat super faded & I had to get it retouched back at home here in Cali. Tristan was great but he didn't go as deep as he should have or have as much detail as he should have had... this update is just for those that are thinking of getting a tattoo in Hawaii. Save your money or make sure the person has amazing skills before you spend your money Please KNOW THAT TRISTAN WAS AMAZING AS A PERSON just not the best choice for an amazing tattoo!
Dave is absolutely amazing!! He's a character--very sarcastic and dry, but also incredibly supportive and kind. I was pretty nervous and he joked and calmed me down easily. I had a rabbit for over 10 years who meant the world to me and wanted him commemorated as a tattoo. Dave drew up a beautiful sketch that was exactly what I wanted. It's a little hard to lock him down because he's also an airline pilot and has an inconsistent schedule, but if you can catch him he's absolutely worth it!

Dave and Tristan both have great creative skills, but were also very willing to use the design I had created myself on the computer. They even scanned it, printed it out onto transfer paper, and applied it to my arm... almost pixel-perfect, straight from my computer to my skin! Dave did an excellent job on my tattoo (suggesting some shading and other design tweaks before applying) while Tristan inked an elaborate tribal design on my brother. It was a very friendly and comfortable environment with us all chatting together and talking about movies and telling stories, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Will definitely be back for another tattoo the next time I'm on the island!

None of our Gen X or Baby Boom relatives has tattoos, and for a long time I had not understood why people would choose to imprint a permanent design on their bodies. But over the years as I've made friends with more and more people who've had ink done, I really came to admire it as a very personal, unique form of expression. So I decided to go for it. My wife even thought about doing it too, but couldn't get past her reluctance to endure an hour or so of pain/discomfort if it wasn't absolutely necessary. On arrival to the Big Island a week ago Saturday, I started researching local tattoo artists and came across Artistic Creations in Kona. The reviews were positive (and numerous!), and I was taken by the story of Dave deciding to move from a career as a U.S. Navy nuclear engineer into owning a tattoo shop in Hawaii (oh, and flying commercial jets on the weekends to boot). My wife and I visited the shop on Monday and met Dave, and I explained what I was looking for and invited his input. For starters (as I was a total newbie to tattoos), he brought a folio out with literally hundreds of custom designs he had done for others along the same general vein, and I picked a couple out that I liked best. He then offered to create a new design that incorporated my favorite attributes of the prior designs plus adding some new images. When I returned for my Friday night appointment, he had the design ready for my approval, and everything went perfectly from there. Dave is a colorful guy and a consummate professional. He was careful with his instruments, engaging during the actual tattooing, and then offered sound advice on caring for my new tattoo afterward. I absolutely love my tattoo. I give Dave and his co-artist Tristan (who was also very personable made me feel welcome) the highest of grades for their service and quality of work. When I go back to the Big Island again, I am very likely to see them again!

My boyfriend and I are on vacation on the Big Island. Previously deciding on an idea of similar tattoos to get, we visited the shop after being referred from so many people and places. Even before we began working on the pieces, Dave was more than happy to show us all of his previous work (1' thick folder) and was patient enough to wait until we had picked through and made a messy pile of the whole thing! It was an overall fun and laugh-filled hour or two just hanging out with him and Tristan. We came back on Saturday to get the work done and Dave did beautifully! I am still so amazed at how detailed and beautiful my turtle is. My boyfriends was a larger turtle with "Live Aloha" under it in my handwriting(which Dave tattooed perfectly!) and vice versa except mine was a little bigger than a silver dollar with his handwriting. We are SO excited and happy with or tattoos. Dave is a funny and really good guy and I highly recommend ANYONE to get any and all work done by him, he is extremely talented and I am still blown away by how great my tattoo looks. After spending a dozen or more vacations in the Hawaiian Islands, my wife and I felt it was time to have some quality tattoo work done during our recent October visit. Before leaving the mainland, we began a thorough search and found Artistic Creations. We talked at length with Tristan Reyes who impressed us as being very personable, knowledgable and talented. He looked at our ideas and we felt there was no reason for us to look any further. We scheduled a time and could not be more pleased with the results. Each of our tattoo designs is unique and original. Tristan's draftsmanship and ability to render color and shading Is exquisite. Here's a guy who actually went to art school! I hope we're able to stay in touch with him. He's just a great young man who really cares about his career, making friends and developing long term relationships. read more

Dave did an awesome tattoo on my outer calf. Lines and shading are clean and consistent. His touch wasn't too painful and his humor made it a fun session. My husband and I got matching tattoos with our godsons name. We will definitely get another tattoo by Dave when we are back on Kona. He plays a movie during the session which helps as well! read more

Before coming to vacation over at the big island, I decided I really wanted to get my first tattoo done over here. Initially I came across this place through yelp itself and the fantastic reviews before me. Two days into my vacation, I had went in the get a price quote for my tattoo as well as my parents (they decided to get one as well after I told them I would, lol!) Tristan greeted us right away and was very attentive to what we wanted to get done. My dad had gotten two tattoos and was being very indecisive on the designs however Tristan was super patient and determined to work out what he wanted up until the tattoos were completely finished and we couldn't have asked for more of a tattoo artist! We had came in for appointment the night (6/30/15) before our flight and although it was a super long night, it was a load of fun as well. The atmosphere of the shop is very relaxing and for it being my mother & I's first tattoos, we sure felt super comfortable. Tristan shows his customers, especially the first timers, the tools coming straight from the sealed packaging to ensure that everyone gets there own equipment and wouldn't be used on anyone else's skin but yours. As he tattoos he also lets you know where he starts, what spot he will do next, when shading comes in, and when he finishes! It might sound a little intimidating at first, but trust me it's not! I thought I wouldn't be able to handle looking at the needles and listening to the noises, but I stopped looking away and ended up watching my first tattoo get done in the making. He makes it look so simple but puts a ton of hard work in what he does and of course does an outstanding job! He is also super friendly and has a great personality. He didn't seem to mind at all when my father would ask him about his background here on the big island and it made for some great laughs hearing his past stories. We had also met Dave (the owner) who came later that night to accommodate his own appointments. Dave came in talking about his day and was absolutely hilarious! This review is mainly for Tristan however, Dave seemed to make his customers feel just at home as well which was lovely and he was super cool to chat with while we waited for my father to finish his tattoos. Anyways, my mother & I's tattoos only really took an hour or so, unlike my father's who took about 3. Definitely longer than any of us anticipated but in the end it turned out great. We thank Tristan a bunch for the patience, kindness, and dedication he puts into his work. I would love for him to do all my future tattoos, so I will definitely be considering more trips back to the big island just to get more done by him! My tattoo I had drawn myself and he was able to instantly put it on my skin. For my mother's and one of my father's, I had sent him an email with the photos and he redrew them perfectly. My father's last tattoo, he wanted a realistic armband of a bracelet he bought at a souvenir shop. Boy, did Tristan do a fantastic job on it. It was epic and looks JUST like it! Just leave it to Tristan to turn something complicated into absolute artwork on the skin! Thanks so much again, Tristan!! This was definitely the highlight of our trip!! read more

go see diamond dave! He is a great tattoo artist and his studio is clean and right near the beach in the coconut grove area - near outback. He knows a LOT about tattoos and his prices are reasonable. He is able to copy or draw any design you want especially hawaiian designs. Best part is it barely hurt. I also liked how you can watch a movie while getting work done - with the mirrored wall you can watch tv from any direction - and it totally makes time fly by. read more

I went to Dave to get a tattoo of a heart I had sewn on my wedding dress for my grandpa who died before our wedding. We went and talked with Dave when we first arrived into town and set an appt for the day before we left. His work exceeded my expectations. The heart is a perfect replica of how it looked sewn onto my dress, complete with the folds in the fabric. I started crying when it was done because I was so pleased with how it looked and it was such a wonderful tribute to my grandpa. Dave does a wonderful job! read more

Recently visited Artistic Creations in Kona when I was visiting friends in Hawaii. Made a spur of the moment decision to get an arrow tattooed on my upper back. Dave was nothing but accommodating, funny and professional. AND truly talented! My tattoo took no longer than 25 minutes max. Came in the day before, made the appointment-didn't even have to leave a deposit. Truly refreshing to meet someone so laid back and good at what they do. Highly recommended! read more

After scrolling through hundreds of pictures and yelp pages I finally found a shop that did Polynesian tribal work that I admired . I came in an hour before closing to get a quote on extending the tattoo behind my ear " blue tooth tattoo " . After walking in I was greeted by Tristan , he had asked what I came in for . I told him and he free handed a design for me. After making a few alterations he opened up the needle packaging and began . After about an hour or so my tattoo was finished . The lines were neat and the detail was amazing . The new tattoo flowed perfectly with my old design . As you can see, his work blew my old tattoo out of the water . I'm going back today to get another one before my vacation is over . Thank you Tristan ! And as for all of the one star reviews about Dave , he is a very funny man , to understand and like his humor you cannot have a sensitive heart lol . read more

Dave is the man!!! We were "virgins" when we first walked into Artistic Creations and met Dave, the owner. Dave has created the most amazing tattoos and stories for us. He is patient, has an AMAZING personality (keeps us laughing) has a heart of gold, is extremely dedicated, gentle (it didn't hurt at all) and is the BEST TATTOO ARTIST ANYWHERE ON THE PLANET!!!! We come from California to see Dave every year on our vacation and we couldn't even think about getting a tattoo from anyone else. If you are looking for a tattoo, don't hesitate to have Dave create exactly what you want. He is THE VERY BEST, and then exceeds even more. Thank you Dave!!! See you next year . read more

Dave is really creative, friendly, and fast. His artistic skills are amazing and he is friendly and fun. You can choose a movie to watch while he works, and he has a flexible schedule. He charges by the hour and his estimates for how long a design will take are accurate. Don't expect to walk in and find him free though, plan ahead a few days. read more

Dave was very friendly, cool, and funny. He doesn't sugar coat things. He told us his style & how he tattoos -- He tattoos fast (gets in & get off the skin & get you out asap). He knows how to tattoo fast, without effecting the quality. This kept the color clean, our skin healthy & the price down. We told him what we envisioned for our tattoo & he created something even BETTER, WAY more amazing than what we had imagined!! He met up with us early at 8:30 AM & we were out before 11am. My wife & i have worked with a handful of tattoo artists & we were very impressed with the quality of our tattoos from Dave & that we ended up paying less than what he originally quoted!! This place has high ratings for a reason and if you're wanting a tattoo in Kona, go see Dave!! You won't regret it! We're extremely happy with the quality & end result of our tattoos :) read more
