I contacted Artistic Hardscapes to clean up the flower beds around my house. I've always had mulch beds with natural edging. The edging was difficult to maintain and was creeping away from the house a little bit more every year. I asked Rick to provide an estimate for installing pavers around the flower beds along with replacing the weed barrier, replacing the mulch with stone, removing old bushes and planting new ones. Rick had several excellent suggestions as we discussed my vision for a transformed flower bed. Rick's estimate was reasonable for what I was asking and he made me aware of possible issues that could increase the final price. Rick and Tyler completed the entire job in a week and stayed true to their estimate. The end result is incredible! Their attention to detail really shows in their work. For example, they improved the shape of an island jutting away from the house and they even adjusted the height and length of the waterspouts to compensate for the new stone beds. Artistic Hardscape has done WONDERFUL work for me on a number of projects that I have needed done around my house, my neighbors homes as well as my family members. I have never been disappointed with any of the work he has provided me. He built a beautiful patio and fire pit me and my husband, and has other worked lined up at this time to add more. Would not recommend this business. Very unprofessional. The owner had a fight with someone on his crew at my house. He didn't follow the design that was given to him. Kept promising that our patio would look great. We agreed to take his advice on a couple of things which turned out terrible. He cut corners and used cheap materials. He said that he would reseed the backyard after he was done but he left 1/2 of my backyard a total mess. read more

Unprofessional business where the customer is always wrong! Entered into a $8,800 contract to have a retaining wall built to provide grade separation and get drainage around our new pool. Approved quote the week of May 8 with Joe telling me that his crew would be onsite the end of the following week. Agreed to pay him half of money when materials were delivered and the remaining half upon completion. Start date got delayed 1.5 weeks to be initiated when we were vacationing overseas. Initially planned to transfer money for half when neighbors confirmed material delivery. While in Europe, Joe's staff notified that me that half was needed before coming to the site. Could not arrange transfer quick enough and so I provided credit card info and agreed to pay his credit card fee for accepting. I was then told that they wouldn't accept a card because there would be a hold on their receipt of payment because the card wouldn't be swiped. Called our bank while vacationing to figure out the best solution - get them to send me a Paypal invoice and pay it immediately. Everything should be good right? Get a text from Joe shortly thereafter full of profanity about the transaction. Unfortunately it didn't stop there. Returned home the second week of June to see them wrapping up the wall. At first glance, the wall looks good. Then I notice that they used a single sized block (rather than the 3 different sizes that we discussed for better dimension) and also built the lower wall shorter than discussed. Invoice was also more than discussed for extra earthwork that he said he would do in the original scope. Agreed to pay him original contract amount because the 3 different block sizes were not specifically indicated in his quote to me, but did not pay him for the extra earthwork ($400). He said that he would adjust the lower wall after the pool decking was completed if we needed. Not pleased at this point, but expecting he would make good on his word if needed. After our pool was completed, we got a few rainstorms where water washed over the wall. On June 24, I asked Joe to come out and regrade to get water flowing around the wall or to add one course of block to the top of the wall... even told him that I would pay for the additional block. He agreed to come back out and regrade but would not be back in the area until the end of July (so, having to wait 1 extra month). Pestered him on July 15 when our pool filled up with sediment and water runoff. No sense of urgency - he just indicated that it was not his problem. I ended up purchasing the additional block and added 1 course of block myself and got the area to where sediment wouldn't run into the pool and waited for him to regrade. Asked him several times during the last week of July when he would be out with no response. I finally got a response from him on July 30 when he accidently sent me a quote for a project for someone else... his answer was at least another week. I ended up renting equipment and completed the repair myself. So, we asked Joe to build a wall to facilitate drainage/separate grades around our pool using a block that comes in 3 different sizes. We got a wall that was too short to keep water away from our pool with 1 size block and a bunch of inappropriate communication from him. We got empty promises to fix the problem and a bunch of ignored emails, calls, and texts. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional business or person. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. read more
