My wife was then greeted by an equally kind and helpful woman named Amanda and brought her into the room to see the Dr. All she wanted was to have the sharp edge smoothed out before our journey and Dr. Choroomi accommodated her beautifully. My wife was in and out in no time. And ... AND... when we went to pay we were told, "no problem, there's no charge for this!" Whaaaat?!?? "Yes, Dr Choroomi said no charge." While X-rays were taken, no doctor or hygienist took gum measurements or even looked in my mouth first-hand for longer than 15 seconds, but somehow the recommendation was for a deep cleaning. It felt to me that they are motivated by money, not helping patients with dental care at this office. A dentist I went to for a second opinion (who actually took gum measurements and examined my teeth) said I do not need a deep cleaning and found an aged filling that needs to be redone and a new cavity. None of this was mentioned at Agoura Dental Group. Please look elsewhere for your dental care needs.

When I arrived I was greeted by two remarkable women receptionists. They were as friendly, personable and knowledgeable as I could have asked for. They answered all my questions and made me comfortable which for me is extremely difficult because I am deathly afraid of dentists,because of some bad experiences I've had in the past. I was ushered into an examine room where I was greeted by a lab assistant who took x-rays with a handheld devise I was more more comfortable with rather than the large machines I've always been frightened of because of my fear of radiation. After the x-rays were completed four medically clad people into the room. They were all very personable and friendly and again made me at ease. Dr. Sean did everything necessary to prepare the implant explaining every detail to me as he evaluated and prepared me for the implant after having previously placed a temporary device onto my tooth. Everything was completed with a half hour and I made an appointment for two week to have the implant done. Each of these people were extremely knowledgeable, comforting and pleasant. The cost of my services and the implant was very reasonable after I had done the cost research. I received services from soup to nuts and couldn't have been Moore pleased. Dr. Mahdy, and his great assistant Star, did a superb job prepping the remaining tooth plus putting a perfectly fitted temporary on top. 10 days later Dr. Mahdy and Star put on the most exact fitting crown I've ever had! My regular hygienist visit came shortly afterward. Both hygienists (Casey and Jasmine) do excellent work. In addition, they had given me "end tuft" toothbrushes for home use. It's greatly helped me to keep my teeth, gums and dental work in great shape between visits. I can't say enough wonderful things about the great dental care I've gotten from Dr. Mahdy and his staff. When I contacted billing about the discrepancy, I was told the advertised offer only applies to patients with "something like a toothache," which is not stated anywhere in the ad. I was also told that because multiple x-rays were taken rather than a single x-ray, the promotion no longer applied. I asked whether these distinctions were documented anywhere in writing, and I was told they were not. During the exam, I was not informed that a set of x-rays would be taken that would void the advertised offer. When I questioned the charge afterward, I was told it was my responsibility as the patient to ask whether the promotion applied at the time the x-rays were taken, despite clear advertising with no disclosed exclusions. I was also told I was being aggressive for raising the question. Overall, the experience, particularly with the advertising and billing process, made me feel uncomfortable and taken advantage of. If you come here, get written confirmation of all costs and what any advertised promotions actually include before agreeing to treatment. EDIT IN REPLY TO THE BUSINESS: I want to clarify a few factual points in their response for accuracy. They state that "concerns regarding billing were first brought to our attention nearly two months after the appointment." This is incorrect. Billing concerns were raised on the day of the appointment and were reiterated again during my call with them on the day this review was posted, just under a month and a half since the appointment, a period that included Christmas and the holidays. Characterizing this as nearly two months later is inaccurate. They also state that the complimentary consultation and x-ray applies only to specific diagnostic visits and excludes comprehensive exams and a full set of x-rays. None of these limitations are disclosed on the website advertisement, nor were they explained to me in writing or in person prior to treatment. These distinctions were communicated only after billing was questioned. Additionally, their response states that all new patients are provided a comprehensive exam and a full set of x-rays. This directly conflicts with the website advertisement stating "New Patients: Complimentary Consult and X-Ray," without any clarification that this refers only to a single image or excludes the standard x-rays they state all new patients receive. The core issue remains the same. An advertised offer with no stated exclusions was used to book the appointment, and the terms that voided that offer were explained only after charges were incurred. That being said, there is a reason why my spouse came out of the appt crying, and I came out of mine terrified. To start, we waited an hour to be seen (our appointment started one hour late). Then, we each had our appointment (X-rays and pictures taken by an assistant). When Dr. Hashemi came in, she did not look inside my mouth. Not ONCE. I have OCD, and I brush and floss every single day, so I figured I would need my yearly cleaning and a repair on a filling that fell out, not much more. Instead, Dr. Hashemi scared the crap out of me by telling me that: 1) I needed a cleaning EVERY THREE MONTHS. 2) My next appointment would consist of a DEEP cleaning, because otherwise there was no way to know if I was experiencing bone loss for my back molars. She said there could be bacteria getting trapped between my gum and my tooth, and that if I lost bone due to the bacteria, I could need very expensive procedures down the line. After describing to me all the "possible" problems and scary consequences of my HEALTHY teeth, she left the room and never returned. A staff member gave me the price breakdown, but the doctor never returned to discuss it. I had so many more questions than before I had the appointment. My spouse had a big cavity and was told that she needed a crown, possibly even a root canal (she said that there was no way to know for sure until the day of the procedure). She also "needed" more cleanings and a deep clean. We both left feeling horrible and deeply concerned about our teeth. We thankfully followed our gut and canceled the future appointments. We have since been to a new dentist, and surprise... 1) My teeth are so clean that my cleaning took 4 minutes TOTAL. 2) I absolutely do NOT need a deep cleaning, and the dentist could tell from the X-rays and from looking at them himself that there is absolutely no problem with my gums and back molars, let alone bone loss. 3) I certainly do not need a cleaning every three months. In fact, I need to brush less or I will damage my enamel. 4) I have two small cavities that Dr. Hashemi never even mentioned. My new dentist and I were actually surprised I had any cavities at all given how clean my teeth are and how well I floss. 5) My spouse does NOT need a crown, just a big filling. And also does not need a cleaning every three months, nor a deep clean. As someone else said here in a review, at her office most patients "need" a deep cleaning. If you are reading this, I suggest that you take the time to read other reviews - you'll see how often the words "deep cleaning" come up. It is not a coincidence. I can't believe this was our experience given all the good reviews. I feel chills just imagining what other unnecessary procedures we would have ended up with if we continued going here. Scare tactics are the main service we received here.
