This place has proven to be exactly what I was hoping it'd be - a place you go when you're tired of having your teeth ruined by lesser dentists, and you just want the best work possible, and you don't care what it costs. Of course, I actually care GREATLY what it costs, and I've searched high and low for a reason to NOT like this place (so I'd have an excuse to bail and go somewhere cheaper), but I keep coming up empty, and I keep coming back for more work. This entire practice is like a well-oiled machine. Starting with the entrance, which forces patients to find their way through Pan's Labyrinth before reaching the front door. I assume this is a measure to weed out lesser patients, who will invariably get lost along the way and perish. If you make it through the labrinth, you'll emerge into the Echo Chamber, where you'll find the front desk. Here you'll be met by the front desk staff, who are all extremely friendly and equally competent. The main front desk girl (I call her that, I hope she doesn't mind) actually carries the title of "Treatment Coordinator," and she's part of that well-oiled machine. She'll approach you, and she's very attractive, and friendly, and has a great smile, and then BAM! - she hits you with a clipboard saying they'll fix your teeth in exchange for your firstborn son. I don't mind though - I actually respect the hustle. And make no mistake, dentistry IS a hustle. To me, it inspires confidence that this dentist is smart enough and competent enough to surround himself with attractive, friendly people. That's just good business. And it projects a good image. One of a young dentist who is thirsty and wants to succeed, and who truly believes in his vision. As opposed to the average dentist, who has given up on life, and has a literal 1 in 50 chance of committing suicide (look it up). As far as what their vision is, it's simple - they've taken a nice building, in a nice area, and filled it with brand new equipment, using all the latest / greatest technologies, and they're banking on them being skilled enough, and patients in the area being well-off enough, to cover the higher prices necessary to pay for all those amenities. And I'm a believer. This place feels more like a NASA clean room than a dental practice. I think the chairs even have heat / massage functions, and they appear to be upholstered in top-grain leather, reminiscent of a BMW interior. There are actually 2 dentists at this practice, or so I'm told. I've never actually met Dr. Joelle. I picture her as a Godfather-like figure, sitting behind a desk somewhere in a dimly lit room, calling the shots. You know, "shots," as in Novoca- nevermind. I won't speculate as to who wears the pants in this relationship / practice, but I find it interesting that Dr. Shawn does all my dental work, while Dr. Joelle (his wife) is the one whose name appears on all the financials. Unique to this practice is the fact that you can pester them via text any time of day, and they'll promptly respond. It feels sort of like having your own dental concierge. If you're planning on having your teeth whitened (it's called Philips "Zoom" whitening), I highly recommend scheduling a teeth cleaning first, in the same visit. That way they'll be motivated to get them as clean as possible. In the words of Dr. Shawn, "we don't want to whiten the stains." They take before and after photos of all cosmetic work, so they have a vested interest in getting you the best results possible. They aren't afraid to use drugs here, which is refreshing. That's actually the main reason I bailed on my last dentist - he didn't use nitrous. If you're a sissy like me, and you faint around needles (I literally can't even look at them), nitrous is a must. It's also nice having a doctor who's willing to prescribe Valium or Vicodin when needed, instead of being so afraid of the DEA that they let their patients suffer. My biggest gripe is the cost of crowns - $2100, vs. $1200 elsewhere. That's a big difference! At least they're CEREC crowns, which means the crown is done in a single visit. There's no horsing around with temporary crowns, or return visits. They have a CNC machine that mills their crown in-house from a solid block of material. It isn't as well color-matched as traditional, handmade, lab-sourced crowns, but the one-and-done aspect makes it worth it. read more

What a nightmare! I had a very similar experience to the 2 star review here. I should have listened to her instead of the 5 stars. The reception and techs are very nice but the office is definitely more concerned with sales than you and your teeth. My dentist unfortunately retired and this place came recommended in a mom group. I went in for sensitivity for one tooth. After getting fillings, I was unhappy with uneven edges and had even worse sensitivity in that tooth and now others as well. I was given the same story regarding his brother and grinding. I was blamed for their mistakes. I have retainers that I wear majority of the day, preventing grinding. I was told the new sensitive teeth were my fault and the grinding was causing thinning of my enamel. I take care of my teeth pretty well and I have never been told I had this issue until after seeing them. I was told that I need a $750 nightguard and I should consider botox, from his wife, for $600/3months. I hate the teeth they "fixed" and am so uncomfortable. I feel like I waisted a lot of money and time just to be dismissed. read more

I had such a horrible experience with my past dentist once they handed the practice off to someone new and was searching for a new group to become a patient of. My first attempt at another office was not a good experience either as they were overcharging and doing unnecessary work. My mother heard great reviews of the smile spa so I made an appointment. I am so happy I found them! The doctors and assistants are so knowledgeable and kind and they do NOT do unnecessary procedures. They are extremely warm, welcoming and trustworthy. I have had the most wonderful dental experience of my life. I have been fortunate to have come across The Smile Spa during my researching dental implants. When I arrived I was greeted by two remarkable women receptionists. They were as friendly, personable and knowledgeable as I could have asked for. They answered all my questions and made me comfortable which for me is extremely difficult because I am deathly afraid of dentists,because of some bad experiences I've had in the past. I was ushered into an examine room where I was greeted by a lab assistant who took x-rays with a handheld devise I was more more comfortable with rather than the large machines I've always been frightened of because of my fear of radiation. After the x-rays were completed four medically clad people into the room. They were all very personable and friendly and again made me at ease. Dr. Sean did everything necessary to prepare the implant explaining every detail to me as he evaluated and prepared me for the implant after having previously placed a temporary device onto my tooth. Everything was completed with a half hour and I made an appointment for two week to have the implant done. Each of these people were extremely knowledgeable, comforting and pleasant. The cost of my services and the implant was very reasonable after I had done the cost research. I received services from soup to nuts and couldn't have been Moore pleased. I needed a new dentist and read about The Smile Spa. I made a quick appointment and went into a lovely and beautiful office. I realized immediately that the staff was second to none. The young ladies behind the front desk couldn't have been any more professional and friendly. They held my hand throughout the presentation of paperwork I filled out. Next I was seen by a lovely woman who explained everything that was going on with my mouth based on her review of X-rays and looking at my teeth and gums. Joelle Abed Elana's DDS was very thorough and friendly. It was like being with an old friend. She told me both she and her husband, Shawn Nguyen, DDS work side by side and they were both licensed to deliver conscious IV sedation. I was thrilled because she was going to do a deep clean under my gums, place an implant where a tooth had been extracted before COVID-19. She would also give me two crowns where previous crowns were damaged. I was told there probably would be some amount of pain and bleeding after surgery and could last a few days to a week or two. Well I had all of these done and I'm pleased to write that the day of surgery and through the first night and all day the next day I've had zero pain and no bleeding. I was prepared to take Norco, although I don't relish pain medication. Well I haven't even taken a Tylenol and I feel great. Thanks to Drs Joelle and Shawn for their magical dentistry. Ok I'm not gunna lie, when I saw all the 5 stars I didn't think that was possible for a dentist's office and thought it had to be incentivized. But here I am also leaving a 5 star review all on my own, because they absolutely deserve it. I absolutely enjoyed my experience at the smile spa. The entire staff is friendly, caring and knowledgeable. They are up-to-date on all the technological advancements, and they did a thorough job during my initial consultation. But for me personally, the most outstanding thing that they did that I haven't seen any other offices do is provide a cost breakdown prior to doing any procedures. They literally had someone come in to show me on paper their price breakdown without me even asking! The transparency in their billing and their knowledge of how it applies to my dental insurance made me trust them. I'm so glad I found The Smile Spa, they have been heaven sent. Doctor Joelle and , Dr. Shawn are truly the most compassionate Doctors ever. They truly care about their patients and the work they perform. I had my veneers done by Doctor Jolle and she was able to get me in and out quick and effectively. My veneers where completed in less than two weeks. After my procedure, Doctor Jolle made sure I was doing good and cared about making sure my veneers felt good. She made sure they felt perfect and comfortable. For my mother, , Dr. Shawn was incredible. Dr. Shawn, did a whole mouth implant on my mother. He maid sure she was 100% comfortable and pain free. The Smile Spa is by far the most beautiful, clean, and professional office I've ever been to. Everyone there is extremely friendly, compassionate, and proficient at their jobs. The atmosphere and the kind staff at this office really helped ease any anxiety that I did have coming in to get dental work done. I had to get x-rays, an exam, 4 fillings, and a cleaning. It was a lot of work, and I've never had fillings done before. Dr. Shawn, Dr. Joelle, and the rest of the staff at The Smile Spa helped make the entire process really seamless and as comfortable as possible. I was afraid of the numbing injections, but Dr. Shawn was so gentle that the shots were practically painless. I was beyond surprised, because I've had really painful injections done at other offices in the past (I'm sure many of us have). We also discussed Invisalign treatment, and I was able to get Botox injected into the masseter muscle to help with teeth clenching. Everything was done right there at The Smile Spa! No need to hop around to different offices. I normally can barely drag myself into a dental office, let alone going to two additional places to get Invisalign and Botox. One star for friendly. The other star for clean. The rest is 000. This is a relatively new, local business that I wanted to wholeheartedly support. I had been a patient at the dentist, Dr Shawn's other location in a Thousand Oaks. I get my teeth cleaned every 5-6 months with no history of any dental problems. I value supporting small business. So when I heard of Dr Shawn opening his own practice, I scheduled an appointment. I asked for the cost and was quoted a rate of 150. I blocked out an hour for my visit on my calendar. Cut to the appointment date. I receive a text message asking for new patient information to be filled out. As I start to fill out the forms, I'm increasingly aware of the MANY questions being asked of me as though I'm being questioned for marketing. Annoying. I arrive for my scheduled appointment. I'm greeted with a very friendly receptionist who has to pull my file together. I wait. I wait.Then I'm told about X-rays. Well- I don't need x-rays. I had them from the previous facility. "Oh. Ok." she says. So, I'm waiting. Someone else comes out and we are now 20 minutes into my 1 hour appointment. The assistant- very friendly- escorts me into the patient room. The new office is beautiful. Tall windows looking out into greenery. Everything looks nice, clean, high tech. Great. I'm waiting. Cut to doctor coming in. Me: "Oh congratulations! I'm so happy for you and your wife in your new space!" Doctor Shawn is friendly and smiling and small take ensues while he examines my teeth. He asks about whether I use a night guard. My response "well, not right now. We discussed the idea of that at your other place when I complained about some jaw discomfort but I'm not having that anymore so I didn't think it was really urgent. He then pulls out pictures of his brother and proceeds to tell me about how he had to put crowns on 10 of his brothers teeth from grinding. And that he doesn't want to see me in the same position. Okayyyyy. This is sounding very scary and serious now (which was the intent) He then proceeds to tell me about another option, which is BOTOX injections in the jaw. "But that wears off after 3 months and you can really feel it when it wears off". Okayyyyy. My response, "But im telling you, I'm not feeling any discomfort". His response "well, you don't necessarily have to feel anything". Okayyyyyy. He closes the sales pitch with " Well, it's up to you. You can think about it". 35 minutes have passed into my one hour appointment and nothing but fear and sales have been performed. Dr Shawn gets ready to leave and I prompt him with, "Hey I'm so sorry but I blocked out one hour for this today. How long do you need for my cleaning so that I can make arrangements?" Response: "Oh you're easy. 30 minutes". Okayyyy. The nice, young receptionist comes back into the room moments later with paperwork. She explains to me that the doctor recommends the night guard for 650$ and a deep cleaning for $250. Okayyyy. What happened to my inititial $150 teeth cleaning? Well, she says, "this is what he recommends". The deep teeth cleaning is $250 and I was just told that I was an easy client who needed 30 minutes for cleaning. Huh??!! So why exactly is deep cleaning so urgent now?! So I pause for a few moments to reflect on all the bullshit that I've just been served up and told to eat. "So what do you think? " says the receptionist holding the paperwork. "I want to go home", I said. "You wanna go home?" she says. " Yes. I want to go home" I repeat. "I'm not comfortable here." "I wanted to come to support Dr Shawn in his new business and I can't help but feel like I am being upsold on services that I don't need. And it makes me feel very uncomfortable." So I picked up my purse and I walked out. The following day I received not a phone call, but a mile long text message from the receptionist telling me what a pleasure it was to meet me, blah, blah ,blah, and continuing to serve up bullshit about what I experienced. No phone call from her or the doctor. A text. And they want me to be comfortable stated at the end of the text. Call me old fashioned, but this is not the way you handle people!!!My original 150 teeth cleaning was now estimated at $900. And perhaps some of you would have no problem or objection or even consider challenging the situation. But I know my body. And I know my health. And I know my teeth. I'm not in any pain. I don't have special needs in the dental department and the 40 minutes I spent in that office was complete bullshit. Unfortunately Dr Shawn at the Smile Spa was a much better employee at his previous place than he is a business owner. read more

Stumbled upon the dental office by accident and since I knew I needed a cleaning I decided to come in. Once I entered the office, the staff immediately greeted me and were so welcoming. The waiting room itself was a sight to behold. The staff then led me inside and I was greeted the doctors. Dr. Joelle and Dr. Shawn made me feel at ease and throughout the process they would stop and explain certain things. Once the exam was completed, Dr. Joelle explained to me in detail what treatment I needed. She would always make sure that I understood everything that she was explaining while also answering any of the questions I had. The staff and doctor interaction was so great to see as they seem to be in sync with one another. As I was leaving, Dr. Shawn stopped by to say goodbye to me. I have had veneers now on my two front teeth for about 10 years , While eating a bite of food in the kitchen one evening my front veneer on my left tooth split in half . I felt so vulnerable and grateful for masks at this pointI called the office of where I had it done in the past and the Doctor moved to New York. So today I had a follow-up visit today with Dr Nguyen for my front tooth implant. First of all I LOVE their office space. It seems more like an ad agency than a medical office. Very edgy/inviting. My overall experience today was, once again absolutely delightful. Christine greeted me at the front desk and helped me breeze through some forms. Nestor then took some xrays/scans. Both were courteous and professional. Then Dr Nguyen put me at immediate ease -- explaining the procedure for the day, his approach, and what I should expect. He then numbed me up nicely and methodically took care of business. I was in and out probably 45 minutes. He said all went well. And... I felt virtually no pain. On my way out Sadie, who was covering the front desk booked me a follow up appointment, then showed me to the elevator. All in all, a wonderful visit. Thx Dr Shawn! Dr. Joelle & Dr. Shawn are the most professional, knowledgeable, compassionate, caring and well-rounded dentist I have ever met. They truly are specialists of their craft! I came in to get my wisdom teeth removed, an exam and cleaning. Dr. Joelle numbed me and it was painless. Dr. Shawn had my wisdom teeth out within two minutes or less. The Smile Spa delivers the most cutting edge dental technology and is so updated on modern dentistry. The office was clean, organized and the staff were extremely welcoming and comforting. This dental office is immaculate. They have all the latest high-tech 3D imaging technology and Dr. Elahad and the rest of the staff were awesome with my check-up and cleaning. My dentist retired and I wasn't comfortable with the Dentist that bought his practice. I saw a new Dental office that was recommended on ND so I made an appt at the Smile Spa . The office is owned by a young husband and wife team. Dr Joelle Abedad and Dr Shawn Nguyen The office is state of the art, spotless and less than 10 minutes from home. First appointment I arrived and the staff was warmly welcoming. Full CT was done and my appt with Dr Joelle for evaluation was amazing ! I needed a lot of work done due to not having care during 2 years of Covid and Dr Joelle truly cared for my dental health . Everything was explained as well as cost covered benefits and out of pocket expense. I was so impressed that I had my husband make an appt with Dr Shawn for an issue with an old dental bridge. Dr Shawn was equally professional and caring and fixed his dental bridge. I can't say enough great things about The Smile Spa. I can't imagine anyone not being happy with the care at this office .
