Most of the instructors care about the students. Pro-Macomb has many good professors who love their jobs and care about the students. Con- Some of the so-called professors are very unprofessional, (math professors in particular) don't care whether the students pass or not, and deserve to be fired. When you have students putting in the effort and doing the work and instructors aren't showing up, showing up without a syllabus and/or being lost in their own textbook, it's time to re-evaluate who should be employed there. Especially if 3/4 of the class is failing. I would have given 4 stars if it weren't for the 2 or 3 subpar professors I had to endure who ruined my GPA. I earned a better GPA at Walsh College, a more difficult school than at Macomb due to Macomb's poor professors. Tutors here do not want you coming in and asking them for help. They're attitude is you're bothering them.

I grew up living pretty much a block away from MCC. I received two associates degrees from this school way back in the day. My highschool graduation was held at this venue. But as far as the robotics competition, it was not really a suitable venue. This place was simply too small for the number of attendees. The gym area was big enough for the contest and there were plenty of giant screens to watch from. But the bleachers were very small and quite scary. Some of the seats were completely broken. Many people had to sit on the floor which is not ideal once you hit about 40. They had a nice concession stand set up but only four tables. And you had to stand. My back was killing me and these competitions are 12 hours long each day. So sitting in a real chair would have been nice! There weren't enough rooms. So the presentation and Q&A portion was held in a room with nothing but curtain dividers. Now you get a group of 15 Jr high kids together and they are going to be distracted by all of the outside noises etc. Also, that room was also what they set up for the lunch room. So we were unable to get in the room until 12:30 on Friday. No snacks for these kids and no where for them to put their stuff or blow off steam. What a nightmare. MCC offered a pre-ordered box lunch with a variety of options for $6.50. This was nice however, it was extremely unorganized. They also had more diet Pepsi than regular. Seems odd for a kids event ‍. The real odd part for me was that there was a mask mandate by both MCC and also FIRST robotics. I agree with this mandate, however they then stuck about 1000 kids and all of their parents in this make shift cafeteria to remove their masks and eat. There was not enough room for the whole team to sit and eat. The adults had to stand. But talk about a super spreader event! I mean why bother with masks if you're going to do that? I worked first aid and witnessed a panic attack over the cafeteria situation. I will say campus police were heavily present. Oxford highschool hosted the event and they did a lot to make them feel safe. Not to mention, Friday was a day of some stupid tick tock challenge so security was on high alert. One thing I found odd was that if there was an emergency we were directed by MCC to call campus police and not 911. But what are they going to do if we needed an ambulance? Just very strange. But thankfully, other than vomit, a sprained ankle from the bleachers, and a few bandaids there were zero major events.

The menu changes weekly. We had the chili, tomato bisque soup with grilled cheese croutons. Our main entree was the salmon BTL sandwich and winter salad. Very good portion sizes and reasonable prices. Credit cards are accepted but only cash for tips. The service from Abigail was excellent. She was knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and efficient. The entire staff was wonderful filling our water and taking away our plates. Reservations are highly recommended if you want to be sure to get a table. Hours are limited. Free parking is in in the structure located next to the campus.

So, I'm in the process of completing my Bachelor's Degree through Eastern Michigan University. I…read moredecided it was time to finish, and after speaking with my adviser, I had a short list of classes to go through in order to obtain my degree. One of these classes was a basic level art class that I never took as a Freshman many years ago. My adviser said, to save time and money commuting to Eastern, it would be easier to take it through OCC at one of their campuses during the summer break. So, I started the process of enrolling back in March. It was relatively easy since I would be attending as a guest student from Eastern. I had to drop off paperwork at Eastern for them to deal with so my credits would transfer correctly. I also started by meeting with an OCC adviser at the Auburn hills campus, which is their main location. Once I had the appropriate paperwork complete, (which was easy) I was able to register for class. Fortunately, even if you aren't a guest student at OCC like I was, it seems like an easy process to do to get the ball rolling. I found that the only evening art class was located from 6 to 9:30 PM at the Royal Oak campus, which I wasn't familiar with. It filled up quickly since it's an entry level class and goes towards several different degrees. My tuition was about $400 total for a 3 credit hour class. Quite a bit less since I am used to paying $400 a credit hour at EMU. If I had taken the same class at EMU, it would have been at least $1600, and I would have had to commute to Ypsilanti. Paying one third of the price and driving 10 miles to and from Royal Oak is a lot easier for me! Class was 12 weeks long and started on May 6th, meeting every Monday though July 29th from 6PM until 9:30. The campus is super easy to navigate and they have a free parking garage right there near campus that makes going in and out of the school easy as pie. Police are around, and they patrol regularly. My teacher has a masters degree in fine art, and seems to know his stuff. But, he was kind of a dick the first 6 weeks of class. I loathed going, and bombed my first test. So did most of the class! Teacher was dam near unapproachable and there was literally a screaming match in class over this. One girl cried and left, the other got into it with the professor. It was awful. After this happened, half the class dropped. Eventually, the teacher offered extra credit and became less of a dickhead. Even though the class was way tougher then I had imagined for OCC, I was impressed and frustrated at the same time with the amount of information we covered. I would go here again as a student, but not for a while since I am starting to get burned out on school. I like OCC because it's really easy to register, they have multiple campuses, and are extremely affordable compared to 4 year schools. Parking is free and convenient, and they have a great variety of programs. But, the reason for 3 stars and not 5 was due to the crass nature of my professor, and I sense that different campuses offer different types of programs. Want to major in being an automotive mechanic? Go to Auburn Hills. Want to take an evening class for a requirement over the summer? You may be commuting to highland or the Farmington Hills campus. Oh and in case you are wondering, I survived all 12 weeks without missing a single class. Sat there until 9 PM every Monday. I got an A- in the class. I need several drinks of booze now.

A low cost fee of $34 dollars for the one day workshop (which was 2 1/2 hours) I had a positive experience! We learned how to make all sorts of things, Biscotti, Tarts, working with puff pastry & fillo dough, and of course truffles. All the materials were included with the one time fee as well. You had a chance to bake things yourself and learn while others were baking with other things. My friend and I were the only people under 40, but it was still a great time. The instructor seemed to have lots of experience and was friendly. I plan on taking another workshop soon, called Tour of Europe which will specialize in all different types of food from Europe. :) Good times! Not to mention, I have a killer recipe now for a Bavarian Creme Apple Cream Cheese Torte. (And of course you get to take the baked goods home) Kudos to the community for offering things like this.

As an active parent who participates and volunteers within all 3 schools, I get to see first hand what goes on within the schools. The teachers are some of the most engaged and active I've ever seen. You can tell they truly care about the well being and education of all their students. As a parent, who's experience reaches across 3 different schools, I highly recommend the Utica Community school district.

It's cool to see everyone's unique twist on the original design. We even decided to add some glow in the dark fireflies to our paintings. I thought it was really nice that they let our friend pick a painting off the wall to take home since she was celebrating her birthday. I've been to this studio twice now for the 'Paint Your Pet' class, and I have absolutely loved…read moreevery experience! The instructors, Erica and Ben (I believe, please correct me if I have the names wrong), were fun, encouraging, and incredibly helpful. Unlike a typical "paint and sip" class, the instructors demonstrate a few techniques and then it's basically just a free paint time while they come around offering help if needed. They offer helpful tips for tackling some of the trickier details, like eyes, fur texture, shading, and color mixing. I also love that you can choose your canvas size, with pricing based on the size you select. They even offer a wood canvas option if you're looking for something a little different. You're welcome to bring one sealed bottle of wine per person, and many people also brought snacks. If you prefer, beverages are available for purchase at the studio as well. A few days before class, you'll email them a photo of your pet. I had so many favorites that I sent three different pictures! They chose the one that would translate best into a painting and be the easiest to sketch. When you arrive, your canvas is already prepared with a hand drawn outline of your pet, along with the printed reference photo you submitted. After a brief introduction and some painting tips, you're given your paint colors and get to work. Throughout the class, the instructors walk around offering one-on-one guidance, and they were amazing. I struggled with areas like the eyes and mouth and felt my painting looked a little flat at first. After the instructors spent a few minutes helping me, everything started to come together, and by the end of class it truly looked like my sweet little boy. I was amazed by the transformation. One of my favorite memories was bringing my mom to a class. She had lost her beloved dog, Bailey, just a few months earlier. At one point she became discouraged and almost gave up on her painting, but the instructors were so kind and patient. They took the time to help her, and by the end of class she was overwhelmed with emotion. The finished painting brought tears to her eyes, and it became such a healing, cathartic experience for her. To this day, she tells me that every time she walks past Bailey's portrait, she blows her a kiss. I later returned with a couple of friends, and the following year one of them lost her sweet boy. She told me how grateful she was to have shared this experience and to have that beautiful painting to remember him by. I truly cherish the paintings of my boys and am so thankful for the wonderful experiences I've had here. This class creates so much more than a painting, it creates a lasting memory of the pets we love so deeply. I can't recommend it enough, and I sincerely hope they continue offering it for years to come. If you've been thinking about taking this class, do it. It's absolutely worth it I promise!
