Said I needed lower control arms (additional $1300) before they could do an alignment. I said no thanks, went elsewhere, and got an alignment for $150 no problem. Side note 1: the truck wasn't safe to drive when I picked it up so I took it immediately to another shop. Side note 2: I called 2x to speak with TJ and emailed as well: no answer. I don't think they're dishonest. I just think they lack the experience to properly diagnose vehicles. Seems like they look at it like "let's see what we can come up with" as opposed to "what needs to be fixed." Finally, every time I called, whoever answered the phone always just said "Hello" like she was answering her home phone. Not very professional. Also failed to mention 3% surcharge for laying with a credit card.

I WOULD AVOID THIS SHOP if you are looking for an honest and trustworthy mechanic…read more In mid November 2022, after the Hi-Tech mechanic's original diagnosis I agreed to a $6500 repair job to replace a timing chain and sensor that he said was causing the check engine light to come on. After a month of endless excuses as to why it wasn't ready I found out that without my knowledge or authorization they had taken my car to the BMW dealer to fix the damage caused by their "repairs"- and Hi Tech paid BMW $5,467 for those repairs- and then tried to repeatedly hide this fact from me. The attached texts are pretty clear and tell the whole story about how untrustworthy this business was in handling this situation. After having had my car for a few weeks and the mechanic repeatedly telling me how short staffed they were- he claimed the job was done but the vehicle was running rough. Said that after diagnosis they needed to tear down the engine and start the 30 hour repair over because BMW had sent a faulty part and because of this BMW would be paying them $70hr for the labor to redo the job. Sound believable? Another 2 weeks goes by and I'm told that the repair is completed and the car is "running great" but that the car was going into limp mode and that a "computer update" was needed and that they didn't have the equipment to do it but I'd be put on a waiting list for a mobile service. The car had never gone into limp mode previously. The mechanic stated that he had never done a timing chain on my model and had even ordered special tools from Amazon. I should have been concerned then. I then find out from Hi Tech that they had taken my vehicle to Passport BMW for the "computer update" they said it needed- and paid $5,467 ($1865.46 in new parts alone)- not for a "computer update" but to fix damage caused by them not properly completing the original repairs. Why would a shop do this and then try to conceal it? A bent screw on the timing chain cover. Five different engine leaks. And I'm told by the mechanic from BMW that the car will continue to go into limp mode unless additional repairs are completed. Now Hi Tech says those conditions were preexisting. I have attached copies of the receipts of all of the work by BMW that the Hi-Tech mechanic tried to conceal. These additional repairs and parts were never disclosed to me when I went to pick up my vehicle which is also a violation of MD Consumer Protection laws. When I went to pick my car up the Hi Tech mechanic didn't know that I was aware of or had copies of the BMW work that they had paid for and continued to mislead me about what was done to my car. When I questioned the him as to what happened with my car and the additional repairs and why he wasn't being honest with me he cursed me out in front of his Mother -(called me a mother f'er!!!) so I left the business without my car vowing to leave negative reviews every place that I could. He even had the nerve to tell me that I was "in a better place" with all of the new parts. I've also had 2 neighbors tell me about their negative experiences with this shop and the owner's failure to properly take responsibility for issues leading them to stay far away as well. Now I get a letter that says they've added $2000 additional for storage and Hi Tech plans to sell my car at auction in 2 days when its still not fixed and they've failed to acknowledge the dealer repairs at BMW. I had been a loyal customer of Hi Tech for years and had even left a positive Google review in the past. I'll leave a review on their Huntingtown location as well since their Facebook page now says they will be selling the Owings shop and their employees and same owners (Thomas Cable family) have moved to the Huntingtown location. The truth and an apology would have gone a long way toward an equitable solution but instead this review will have to do to warn others about how dishonest this shop can be.

Service: 10/10 My primary contact was Mike, however I spoke with many other staff in person and over the phone over the course of a week after I had my Crosstrek towed in with a destroyed transmission system. Everyone was courteous, helpful, and responsive. The new transmission they procured was practically brand new and installed professionally. The experience they provided me as a customer was as excellent as the final bill and they are now my go-to shop for transmission and suspension work. Thus, I strongly recommend this business. When I had my car towed in, it was after hours, but conveniently they had an overnight key/car drop off system that was secure and easy. The lobby was clean, organized, and offered free cold water.

Had my vehicle being serviced at local mechanic and they notified me that the PTU (Power Transfer…read moreUnit) that is part of transmission on all-wheel drive vehicles was leaking badly and needed to be replaced. They did not work on transmissions and advised me to take it to a transmission repair shop. Called the Ford dealership and they told me to replace it would run around $3300. For comparison I called some transmission shops and got ahold of County Transmissions and spoke with Hampton. He told me that it would run $2300 including labor if it needed to be replaced. They had good reviews so I decided to take it to them and save the $1000. Took it there on a Monday and Hampton told me they would have it done in several days. By Friday had not heard from anyone so I called them and was told that it was next in line to be looked at which would be the following Monday. My vehicle had been there five days and had not been looked at. On the following Monday, Hampton called me and said that it did need to be replaced and to replace it would run $3200. This was $1000 more than $2300 as he had initially told me and about the same as what the dealership would charge. Mentioned this to him and he said that the $2300 was for a used PTU that they would get from a salvaged vehicle, and a new one was $3200. He had not told me this when I first called and I had of course assumed the initial quote of $2300 was for a new one. Didn't even know they would consider putting a used one a vehicle because how would you know it didn't have issues. In light of this new information and for the fact I feel it was a bait-and-switch, I decided to take my vehicle to the Ford dealership and have them do the repair. The dealership's warranty on the PTU was much better and I know am getting a genuine Ford part. With an independent shop am probably getting a cheap aftermarket part. If I moved to another city or say was traveling and had an issue with it, I could take my vehicle to any Ford dealership and they would honor the warranty. If County Transmissions had done the work, then I was out of luck. Had to take an Uber back to County Transmissions and pick-up my vehicle and then take it to the Ford dealership. This costs another $50 on top of the $50 Uber charge had already incurred when I took my vehicle there and had to take an Uber to get back home as I live far from them. I opened up my SmartTag GPS tracking app as had placed an Android SmartTag GPS tracking device inside the vehicle awhile back. Was very surprised to see my vehicle had been driven around Vienna and appeared they were using it to run errands as it was stopping at various locations. So in the end I was out $100 in Uber fees, they had my vehicle for a week and nothing was done after Hampton telling me they would get to it in several days, plus they apparently used it to run errands. I would certainly not recommend this company in light of everything that happened. Note: Saw that Hampton had posted a rebuttal on my initial review where he states that the initial quote was an estimate to repair the PTU, but this is not true. The PTU is something that is replaced, not repaired, and he gave me a quote of $2300 to REPLACE the PTU. Plus they didn't need to be driving it around to determine where the leak was coming from since it was obviously leaking when I took it in and it had to be replaced. When I called him on Friday he said they hadn't looked at it yet; however they had been driving it around before that Friday. He mentions that they have a shuttle service and I asked about this but was told it didn't go to where I live.

The pricing is worth the level of assurance I received, especially with the warranty and follow-up. I needed my vehicle turned around quickly, and they accommodated my timeline without cutting corners. What stood out most was that I never felt pressured at any point. They delivered exactly what I needed and got my vehicle back to me on time. I'll gladly continue to bring my business here moving forward.

The staff was incredibly attentive, honest, and welcoming from the start. Even though it's a smaller shop, they have a comfortable waiting area with free coffee, snacks, and water, which was a really nice touch. They took care of my oil change and filter without an appointment and finished in less than an hour and a half. What really stood out to me was their honesty and generosity -- they even told me my next oil change would be free, which I've never experienced before. I've been to dealerships and many other auto service places around the Washington area over the past 20 years, and I can truly say this level of service is rare. This was my first visit, but based on this experience, they've earned my five stars. I'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend them!

I brought my truck to Dad's Garage in Owings for three relatively straightforward items:…read more * TPMS sensor programming * Tire balancing * Diagnosing an emergency brake-related clunking noise under load I had an 8:00 AM appointment scheduled well in advance, yet after TWO full days, the truck sat untouched until around 2:00 PM on the second day. This was a job that realistically should have taken a couple of hours. The TPMS issue was never resolved. Initially, I was told the sensors had been programmed correctly and that the warning lights were caused by incorrect tire pressure -- one of the most ignorant explanations I've ever heard from a mechanic. The reality was simple: the inner rear TPMS sensors were never programmed at all, which was the entire reason the truck was brought in. They eventually admitted that after the fact. Next was the wheel balancing. My truck has custom powder-coated wheels. Instead of using stick-on weights like the factory setup already had, they installed hammer-on steel weights on the OUTER edge of the rims, damaging the powder coating in the process. Any competent shop should have immediately recognized the proper balancing method after removing the existing stick-on weights. As for the emergency brake concern, they never properly diagnosed it. I specifically brought the truck in for a loud noise under load -- not the normal sound of the electronic parking brake actuator engaging. They dismissed the issue without ever meaningfully reproducing or testing the concern. To top it all off, they broke a wheel stud using an impact gun on the lug nuts rather than properly torquing them as a qualified mechanic should. Because of the excessive use of the impact gun, I now have concerns about stretching or cracking of the remaining wheel studs and will likely be replacing all of them as a precautionary safety measure. Between the damaged powder coating on the wheels and the wheel stud issue, I am now facing well over $1,000 in damages to either have the wheels professionally re-powder coated or replaced, along with replacing the studs they improperly handled. What made the experience even worse was my conversation with Mike, the owner. From the beginning of the call, he was defensive and adamant that everything had been performed correctly -- until several of those claims were proven untrue. Once confronted with the facts, the conversation quickly became unprofessional, including yelling on the phone rather than attempting to resolve the situation appropriately. Two days wasted, damage to my wheels, unresolved issues, poor communication, and additional damage caused while the vehicle was in their possession. This experience was frustrating from start to finish. Steer clear of Dad's Garage unless you want your vehicle returned with more issues than it had when you dropped it off.
