My Experience with Deuce Renovations If you're looking for a…read morecontractor you can trust--someone who will go above and beyond to get the job done right--look no further than Garfield and his team at Deuce Renovations. I rarely write reviews, so when I do, it means my story is impactful. In my experience, most contractors either fall short of expectations or do the bare minimum. But Garfield and his team were different. They exceeded every expectation I had, and I feel compelled to share just how exceptional they are. In April 2025, we discovered a long-standing leak in my parent's basement--a time-sensitive issue that required urgent, expert attention. When I contacted Garfield, he didn't hesitate. He committed to helping us right away and kept that promise. He came out promptly, provided a clear and fair estimate, and got started without delay. Being on-site, I saw firsthand how professional, respectful, and highly skilled his team was. As they began opening up the walls, we quickly realized the damage was much worse than expected. One problem after another emerged. I felt like this was something out of a zombie home renovation show. But Garfield never flinched. He proactively investigated the root causes, brought in the right people, and tackled each challenge head-on. That level of initiative, proactiveness and commitment is rare. Throughout the project, Garfield kept me fully informed. He communicated, followed through on everything he said, and delivered on every promise. He is a man of integrity, when he says he'll do something, he does it, and he does it right. What stood out most to me was the honesty, kindness, and care that Garfield and his team brought to the job. They worked diligently, respected my family's space, and treated my elderly parents with genuine warmth. When my parents said, "They're all good boys--respectful and hardworking," I knew we had made the right choice. The quality of the work was outstanding, but the experience itself was even better. If you're considering someone for your home project, I can say with complete confidence: that Garfield and his team are the ones you want. You won't just get great results--you'll get peace of mind.

After an injury last year, my dad was no longer to climb stairs in his century-old house, which made it impossible for him to continue living there. When Garfield and Ducan came to the house the first time, they were immediately able to visualize and communicate to me a plan for turning the first floor of the house into a comfortable suite for my dad, which meant installing a brand new bathroom completely from scratch. I was already impressed, but the final result of their work exceeded my most hopeful expectations by far. I was completely new to managing a home renovation, and they helped me immeasurably through the process, educating me on all the details and issues that came up with great patience. After a new issue with the basement came up, they were able to quickly devise and execute a plan for that as well, and the total cost for all the work was still under what I had initially been imagining merely for the bathroom. They also work incredibly quickly -- the bathroom renovation was completely finished in a matter of weeks, not the months I was expecting. Do not hesitate to hire them! They are not only marvellously efficient and reasonable, but they're great guys and a real pleasure to work with.

Just to provide some background to our specific circumstance, my mom and I are two ladies who initially were intimidated to navigate the world of 'house repairs' on our own. Similarly to going to the mechanic from the lens of a woman, there was a sense of worry about potential mark ups and a fear of lack of transparency. This was certainly not the case with Mike and his team! Mike walked us through the stages and scope of repair, he provided detailed invoices and responded to all our concerns. We had a leak in the upstairs ensuite which impacted our kitchen and basement. Mike and his team removed existing mold, fixed our plumbing issues and subflooring which was also damaged. They also renovated our entire kitchen and helped to install new appliances. It was like a one stop shop! We are certainly pleased with the final product! Thank you for the excellent customer service, it was a great pleasure doing business with the 911 Water Damage Experts! -Team Girl Power!

The guy said he wouldn't be in the office until Tuesday, but due to the nature of the issue (I had to move all 3 of my kids out of the house and into a motel), he would send someone else to check it out, check the moisture and such and take pictures. He told me he would have the quote ready after the guy came Sunday. The guy came and he was very nice. As he left, he told us we would get our quote either that day or Monday. Monday, I called them and was told that it would be done Monday afternoon (and we ensured he was given the proper email address). Tuesday, I was told that the quote was complete and he was just waiting on his girl to type it up. Wednesday I called several times with no answer, the last attempt it rung twice and then I was clearly ignored. Thursday, I called again and still no answer. I asked my boyfriend to call, and sure enough, they answered. We were told he was not in the office and we would get a call back when he was in the office. We have yet to hear from him at 10:30pm Thursday. If this guy didn't want to help us, he could have just told us instead of wasting our time when we are in an emergency situation where we are paying for a motel. Had he of been up front, we could have gone to another company that would actually want to help us. I have no idea why this guy has decided that he doesn't want our business, but I will never recommend him or use his services in the future. I found this highly disrespectful and unprofessional. This already hard situation has been made worse by waiting around for someone who says they are helping, but actually aren't.

Horrible experience. Although the clean-up crew was efficient, friendly and professional after a…read moreminor flood, I would NEVER recommend CRCS for renovation. From the onset, the project manager was extremely abrupt, condescending and outright rude. In 2+ decades working with various trades, I don't recall anyone as belligerent or disrespectful. The business model for CRCS is pretty straight forward: overcharge (excessively) for clean-up, removal, dumping fees and heating fans, and hopefully persuade homeowners to sign on the dotted line to complete the renovation. If homeowners opt to use a different contractor for the renovation, CRCS is still doing well because of the inflated clean-up costs. Renovation estimates are high too, but they pay the subtrades they hire considerably less than the estimate to the insurance company. Project managers are over-worked and likely poorly paid. However, even being over-worked is no excuse for the appalling lack of customer service or respect for the client. CRCS sent me a few emails the Friday before the Monday the drywaller was to come to tell me to be ready for him between 8:30-9 AM. Monday arrived and I was gungho and waiting. After 9:35-9:40AM I called and politely asked the PM if all was good and was the drywaller on his way. PM replied in an angry, brusque manner "Yeah, just be patient. He's coming." Anyone else would have said, "let me give him a call, he's likely running late" but not this guy. I cannot think of any circumstance when someone working for me would bark at me to "be patient". Drywall guy showed up not long after that rude phone conversation (I'll call him "S"). The total job required less than one 4x8 sheet of 1/2" drywall. "S" was in and out of the CRCS van and up and down my basement stairs constantly, yet little was being done. "S" hadn't stopped going in and out of his van consistently throughout the day, but no work was getting done. After 2:30PM I asked "S" why he wasn't yet screwing pieces, taping or mudding -- and had not put the 2 pieces in the powder room that had caused the leak (1' high x 3' behind toilet and same under perpendicular window). Shockingly, "S" told me that CRCS paid him terribly by the hour ($40K/yr) and said he should get $35/hr - so he was purposely "going slow". Shortly thereafter, "S" yelled from the basement that I had a secondary leak. "S" said he had to stop work and left. He recommended a plumber who did work for CRCS who kindly came later that afternoon. The cause of the leak: a DRYWALL SCREW in my main water line. (The plumber is a whole other story - OMG!) We wouldn't have known -- and the drywall would have been sealed -- had my husband not worked from home that day and done a workout/took a shower. Tuesday "S" arrived at 9:30AM - little action and still no drywall in the powder room. Told him I had a dental appt Wed so he could work two hours in the morning AM and that I would hustle to return by 1PM for him to have the balance of the day. I rushed but "S" didn't show up till 2PM and was about to leave at 3:30PM without putting any drywall in the powder room. I asked him to PLEASE cut and attach those 2 keys pieces and mud one coat, so he did so begrudgingly. Thursday "S" showed up at 9:20AM. At 11:20AM I was working on my laptop, and he came to tell me he was going to take a 30-minute early lunch and would be right back. At 12:30PM I sent "S" a text and another at 2PM to ask if he was returning. Eventually, at 2:36PM I received an incoherent, rambling text from "S" telling me he was visiting a great buddy in the hospital. Based on a lot of reasons, I concurred the guy is an addict ("S" had spoken about a buddy with an opiate habit several times and that it wasn't their fault). Meanwhile, during his absence I had gone down to the basement to see if "S" had made any progress. I was shocked to see a total disaster - nothing was level or plumb. The ceiling had an obvious "wow" sag. I got a level and took photos & called 3 drywallers. Sent them photos - all 3 told me the drywall had to be completely redone: cut and remove, then cut & attach new drywall, new corner bead, new tape and sev coats of mud. Friday, CRCS sent 2 staff to collect the tools and supplies from the basement. My husband said they were pleasant. Earlier in the week, I had left messages & emailed Mr. Congeniality for the names & numbers of the painter electrician so I could coordinate my schedule with theirs. No answer - it was a black hole. I called and told the adjustor that I was getting the run-around on these "reasonable requests" (his words) so the adjustor called the PM at CRCS. As expected, the PM was hostile, confrontational, and argumentative. I discovered that NO trades were booked & no materials ordered. No part of the job was being "Project Managed" at all other than the useless drywall guy. I told the insurance co I was taking over and did. We've had no contact from the PM. I wouldn't hire CRCS to apply a bandaid.

Initially, I hired them to do some simple things like putting in a new toilet, putting up some window coverings and some small lighting fixtures. The work was straightforward, but it was done in a timely and effective manner. And the price was right as well. I decided to get them to do an overhaul of my front porch... and what a good decision it was. The work was excellent and I received several compliments from my neighbours. I even had a woman knock on my door and ask who did the work! Not sure if she followed up in getting them to do future work for her. Since then, I've had them put in some flooring, (in addition to a number of smaller jobs) and I've been very pleased. I'm glad I found them and will get them to do future work in my house.

Trim was left dirty and marked up. Caulking between trim and 1/4 round sloppy. Powder room pedestal sink removed and vanity installed. There was a space left between the old sink and new one and he had no intention of fixing it. Also, he had to remove the medicine cabinet and hang it higher. Dropped it and gouged the wood trim that goes around the middle of the wall. Claimed he didn't see it. It was pretty big. Left 2 little piles of sawdust behind the vanity from where he had to cut the trim. His caulking of the vanity and the wall was also sloppy. And he put caulking between the fake drawer and top of vanity where there was none before. It was an absolute mess! It took me hours to remove it. Even though he offered to return and fix them, I declined and fixed them all myself. His site claims he's licensed, but when I asked about plumbing, he told me he's not a licensed plumber. So, ask questions and make sure you know what he's capable of. Oh, forgot to mention the glue that was left in the main bathroom sink after the installation of the new fixture. More caulking in the bathroom, where the trim meets the toe kick. Looks horrendous. I mean, he's addicted to caulk.

It was Christmas Day morning we discovered a slow leak in our basement. He didn't need to come same day, so we booked for next day. He arrived himself with all his tools to check for water and mould. For the last two months, he's been the only person who cares and has been following the details, everything from the emergency work to the things insurance missed in their own estimate of our house. He's one of those guys who works for the big insurance companies, they know him, his reputation and his estimates are realistic. He was able to get what we needed to restore the damage from the flood. No disputes, super smooth, I'm super happy.
