For six months I have been complaining to the Asbury Park Press that my newspaper is never delivered before 10:30-11:00 each morning. I have been told repeatedly that the carrier has been talked to about delivering the paper first thing in the morning, as it should be. Nothing changes. Most often, my emails do not even generate a reply. Now I'm told my rates are going up! They don't care about the horrible customer service they provide. read more

So stopped the paper as they couldn't deliver it half the time and you spent your time chasing down credits which only extended the poor delivery. Now my wife goes everyday to get the paper and 30 percent of the time it wasn't delivered to the local wawa. I have tracked the last 10 sundays as 60 percent of the time you don't get the middle of the paper on sunday. Wawa says they have no control over the papers-funny they collect the money for them. The Asbury Park Press doesn't have an email complaint line to report it you need to sit on the phone to get excuses. read more

My 85 yo mother recently started getting your news paper again after stopping it because of crappy delivery service. Since she restarted delivery she's had to complain many times about the paper being thrown on the rocks in front of her house l, wrong houses or not delivered at all. She is not stable and can't walk on the the rocks to get the paper or go in search of the it each morning. Today I saw the deliver driver as he drove extremely fast down her run so I yelled to him to try to throw it in the driveway. That she can't walk on the rocks. His response was to "SUCK his dick" ! Terrible company owned by Gannett INC. I don't suggest you work for them or buy their newspapers. I was laid off twice by Gannett between 2006-2009. The paper cut most of their seasoned writers and editors and burdened the remaining staff with additional work. I can't say I know many of the people left in the newsroom, because pretty much everyone I knew and worked with either left willingly or got laid off. The company also does not pay its staff fairly. Not an ethical company at all. Their sales department was getting incentives and bonuses for selling papers, while the newsroom staff was suffering. Times may have been better in the past, but those days are over. read more

Beware buyers! Don't be a victim of the old "bait and switch " tactic. I was in Shop Rite of Bayville, NJ yesterday, Sunday, and scammed by the Press's salesman named "Scott ". He told me I could get a great deal on the Press...Friday, Saturday, and Sunday paper for a weekly price of just $2.25 a week. And there was a special gift of a $15.00 shop rite gift card just for trying out the paper. What a great deal, right ? $2.25 a week and a Shop Rite gift card ! Well "after " I'm signed up and my credit card is going through for payment, I find out my card is being charged $23.75. This charge is the $19.00 monthly fee, and a one time set up fee of $4.75. That great price of $2.25 per week was a ONE TIME amount. The gift card of $15.00 wasn't even a gift for trying out the paper. It just reduced my out of pocket cost for the first months charge. $23.75 - $15.00 comes to $2.25 per week but just for the "first" month. From now on the paper will charge my card the monthly price of $19.00. Scammed in Shop Rite by the APP's Scott (should be a car salesman). Don't be a fool like me and be fooled!!! Like I said "Buyer Beware Update as of Monday, 22 October 2018, not only has the Asbury Park Press not refunded my original $23.99, they have now charged my card an additional $39.73 which I have no idea what that is for!!! Over $60 for a paper I cancelled the very next day. I am livid!!! Waiting for a call back fr Update as of November 1, the Asbury Park Press returned all my money so I changed my review to 3 stars instead of 1. read more

Worst customer service ever!! Waited 25 minutes or more 2 different days to cancel our online access in December, husband noticed we were charged on Jan 2, so I called yesterday, 30 minutes, gave up, today 26 minutes, finally got a person, but whoever I spoke to in December never canceled our online access. Soooooo we are now out of 6.99 (doesnt seem like a lot, but how many other people have they done this to?) because its less than $10, they cant refund us. We had been subscribers forever, until the paper was basically worthless to read, the local Coast Star has better coverage. The biggest joke was the Thanksgiving day paper. They had the nerve to rip off people and charge $5 that was lacking in lots of usual ads, dont they make enough money from the advertisers? This newspaper did it depends on Revenue made by subscriptions. So why would they offer you a $1 6-month free trial subscription and then charge you $14.99 thereafter without warning? Here's my explanation, I signed up for a subscription a digital subscription for a dollar for 6 months . What they depend upon is you forgetting about the fact that you signed up for the subscription so this way they could take 1499 out of your account without warning . No email nothing say anything about hey you're one you're you're one dollar six month free trial is ending soon within a week or so we're going to be taking money out of your account no they didn't do that. Overdrafted my account and then I call customer service to tell them and they say five to seven business days to put it back . A week goes by , no refund call them back again say hey what's going on. Turns out the previous representative didn't even make a request to get a refund so I asked to speak to a supervisor . He told me there was nothing he could do about the overdraft fees as a result of the 1499 overdrafting my account . Which I swiftly told him I'm sorry doesn't pay the bills. In conclusion , make sure you remember that you signed up for the dollar 6 month free trial because they will not send you a warning email before they take money out of your account . And they depend on that because they depend on people being too busy to remember that they signed up for this thing which will automatically be taken out of their account every month that's a pretty sad way of making money but there it is. read more

The worst customer service I've had in awhile!!! Sent in p/card requesting print delivery/service on Sundays ONLY. Had to take Friday/Sunday..closest offer they had to what I wanted; they sent me confirmation letter."...it'll begin 6/30.."--still waiting 3+ weeks later. Have received no newspapers at all. Worse than that, is trying to get someone on phone to report it!! Horrible customer service; can get no service or help via phone. Last week, I finally got a "human" after days of calling for two weeks. Told her and she says I'll get 2 months "free" and she'll contact the distribution area. This is 3rd Friday w/out a delivery. Was on hold for over an hour this morning til I gave up! Now, just want to cancel my (non)subscription. But how? No wonder print subscriptions practically no longer exist. read more

been having an issue with getting my paper,saying they always say covid issues. not enough drivers. sometimes get paper other times nothing. person that delivers paper would throw paper on ground. complain 4 or 5 times about this issue they always say they would get this resolved and send it to district manager but it never gets resolved and nobody calls back even the district manager. very poor service. live in middletown n.j. why don't any body response to our problems. no more sale papers in paper neither why? read more

The Asbury Park Press and the Garage Sale Ad from Hell When I placed an ad for a garage sale with the Asbury Park Press I encountered a frustrating mix of incompetence and indifference. Their website is buggier than the Okefenokee swamp. Getting on proved difficult; at times it wouldn't accept my log in because their database was unavailable. At other times it rejected my password and claimed my email address was never registered with them. However, if I tried registering the address, it rejected the registration because the email address was already registered. I got around this by opening a second account with another email address. Once in, I experienced some repeated quirks such as defaulting to an estate sale format. No, I was not placing an ad for my own estate sale. Changes to the draft ad usually took long enough for me to pour myself a cup of tea. I wasn't having any slowdowns due to server problems during this period, and I was using an HP desktop running Windows 8.1 Pro with an i7-4790 CPU and 24 GB RAM, so it certainly seemed it was the APP website that was inadequate. Having finally composed the ads, I got a Quote for an ad for two days, Friday and Saturday, for a Saturday garage sale. The website rejected three valid credit cards. I got around this by phoning in my acceptance of the Quote and paying with one of the three credit cards. The ad only appeared on Friday, and was missing on Saturday. In my experience, when we check garage sale ads on Friday, we check them again on Saturday, primarily to see if any new ones have been added. However, if an ad appearing on Fri was gone on Saturday, we assume that the sale has been cancelled. Running the ad on Friday and not on Saturday didn't just fail to attract any buyers who looked only on Saturday, it most likely discouraged potential buyers who had seen the Friday ad and found it absent from the Saturday paper. When I sent an email to the Customer Service address listed on their website, explaining what had transpired and asking for a refund, the email was returned by the server, after repeated delivery attempts, as undeliverable. I looked up the name of the APP Customer Service Manager on the Better Business Bureau website and wrote a letter to her asking for her assistance. The letter was never answered. Incidentally, if you think my experience is an isolated one, I suggest you look up the Asbury Park Press's rating with the Better Business Bureau.. For my next garage sale, I'll only be using one of the free websites which a web search turns up. They usually include a map pinpointing your location, generous word allowances, posting pictures, and I haven't encountered any problems with the functioning of any of these websites. And they're free, and you don't have to deal with the Asbury Park Press. . read more
