I had a wonderful experience with Ascend Physical Therapy. I had rotator cuff surgery back in late August 2022. I started PT with Ascend two weeks later. The Doc said it was one of the worst tears he had ever seen. The therapists were conscientious of this and approached with extreme care. I initially started out three visits per week. The PT eased me to the pain and not through it as prescribed by the Doc. Over time my motions were normalizing. The PTs kept testing my movement abilities, and again not pushing. I was "handled with care". Eventually I reduced my number of visits to 2 visits a week then every other week. I am back to normal, or at least 99%. I would like to thank Nancy for having such a great group of PTs who assisted me, Petya, Kim, Courtney, Jacob, Allison and Nancy herself. I don't recommend injuries to anyone but if you must be injured and you require rehab, Ascend comes highly recommended. read more

Nancy and her team at Ascend have been absolutely phenomenal to work with on the rehabilitation following my foot tendon surgery! They are knowledgeable, patient, really take time to listen to how you're doing and adjust exercises accordingly. The atmosphere of the practice is very calm and cooperative. Even when there are multiple folks there at the same time, I feel like I get the attention I need in terms of observations of what I'm doing, adjustments needed, and instruction on what to do next. I've gone to several PT practices over the years for different issues, and they are among the best I've experienced. I've made very rapid progress thanks to the care I've received, and have no doubt I will reach 100% in the near future if I finish my regimen at Ascend. I am so unhappy about the billing experience here that I am leaving a 1 star, even though the physical therapy portion was great. Whenever I book an appointment for ANYTHING, I make sure to ask a lot of questions to make an informed decision - one of these was how much a session of physical therapy would cost. The office was unable to provide a quote the first time because they needed to verify with my insurance, and that is totally understandable. After coming here for the first session, I asked again what the cost was and here is where they messed up - they quoted me some amount around $20 for the entire appointment and said my "insurance was a really good one" in that it covered a significant portion of the costs. I didn't have a reason not to believe her - my insurance had gone through, it was an amount I had seen before at prior physical therapy offices, and an amount similar to my co-pays, so I thought nothing of it and made another appointment....and regrettably, a third appointment. Imagine my shock when I came back to a bill of $550 for 3 therapy sessions. After bouncing back and forth with the billing department, it turns out a portion of the original bill is wrong, but I'm still on the hook for a similar amount. I was given an apology by the billing department and offered a payment plan. I lost my ability to make an informed decision - a $200 initial session would have been a hard pill to swallow. But I would have NEVER gone to the next two sessions had I known this is how it was going to turn out. In all my medical appointments, whenever I ask about the bill I'm usually given either the exact amount or some sort of a range even if they don't know the exact cost and every time these offices have been accurate. I should have known better than to wait for the end of the month bill. Coming here is the biggest regret I've had in 2017 yet. read more

Due to the great efforts of the folks at Ascend - with special thanks to Petya, Kim & Nancy - I was able to go hiking this week in Alaska's Denali National Park with my 16 year old son --- just six months after major shoulder surgery. I carried a pack and used trekking poles with both arms! No pain or discomfort at all. Thank you all for making such a special experience with my son possible...Keep up all your good work! read more

After knee surgery last winter, I was treated by all of the therapists at Ascend. They are all very qualified and are able and willing to use treatments that are best for ME, not just generalized "standard procedure for knees". My recovery was much faster than I had expected. The therapists are assisted by a group of assistants/techs who are equally dedicated to the patient. Most of the techs are completing their own professional training in PT or related fields. The staff at Ascend treat a wide range of conditions, not just bad knees! Just as important, Ascend offers a wellness program, so that patients can continue a planned, specific exercise program once their treatment sessions are finished. It is very affordable, payable monthly, and a PT Assistant is always there to help with specific exercises or to change your program. So much better than a gym! read more

My wife started seeing Petya at Ascend nearly two years ago when she hurt her knee. When I hurt my knee a couple of months later she insisted that I go see Petya, and I'm very glad I did. She has since worked on both my knees, both wrists, and my back. She has wonderful hands (I generally don't appreciate massages, but what she does is amazing) and a delightful personality. Both of us have become very fond of her. Thanks to the physical therapy and my home treatment program, my limbs are now much stronger than they were two years ago and I no longer need physical therapy, but the next time I put out my back I'll go back to Petya. Of course, Petya is not Ascend's only asset. Both Nancy, the owner, and Kim have worked on me when Petya was away and I was very happy with both of them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I first found Ascend in 2017 when I needed help with knee problems. Nancy and her excellent team of therapists and techs were able to help me avoid surgery, and my knee is still holding up to this day. Then in the spring of 2021, I started experiencing severe shoulder pain and my orthopedist prescribed PT. We were mid-pandemic, but I felt assured by Ascend's stringent COVID protocols: masks, distancing from other patients, constant sanitizing of the equipment, etc. I went back to Ascend and started working with Sarah Hollingsworth, DPT. Sarah is phenomenal. She has encyclopedic knowledge of muscles, nerves and joints, and manipulates them expertly. She also happens to be super sweet and fun to work with - PT didn't feel like a chore. The facilities and equipment are state of the art, and the entire staff stays informed and up to date on advances in physical therapy. The patient portal is comprehensive, making my workout program accessible to me 24/7. I will eventually need surgery for my torn rotator cuff, but with Sarah and Ascend's help, I'm able to delay it for now. If you need PT, get yourself to Ascend. And ask for Sarah! read more

I am going to Ascend for post-op recovery of rotator cuff surgery. The whole Ascend team is great! Administratively they are very easy to work with to schedule and change appointments, and there are lots of options for appointment times. The PT team is knowledgeable, does the right amount of pushing to help my recovery without going to far, and has done a great job on keeping my surgeon updated on progress. My regimen has progressed with a good mix of working on my range and starting to bring in strength. Plus, they are all very nice people, get along well, and seem to really enjoy their job! I am way ahead of my recovery schedule due to their great guidance! read more

Nancy is the best! I found her online and went in with a random diagnosis from a podiatrist. She was able to figure out the real problem and has done an excellent job at alleviating the discomfort, as well as provide relevant exercises to keep me in best health. I've been going to Nancy for a few years, for several different issues. She is by far the best physical therapist I've ever been to. She listens to her patients, and obviously cares about their wellbeing. She works with you to find the best exercises that you are comfortable performing with as little pain as possible. I have recently been going for bulging disks in my lower back, and she's definitely helped me improve my balance and core strength, and reduced the pain. I also have an old ankle injury that Nancy treated me for. She's done nothing but bend over backwards to help alleviate my ankle pain, even after the doctors said I'd just have to live with the pain. I highly recommend Nancy and Ascend Physical Therapy. Everyone is very nice and knowledgable, and they all genuinely care about the patients. I won't go anywhere else! read more

My daughter had been going to another PT office before coming to Ascend. She wasn't happy at the other office, while I thought the therapists were kind and knowledgeable. I didn't realize what we were missing until we came to Ascend. Nancy and her team are fabulous! They are kind, compassionate and knowledgeable, and they use other treatment modalities (such as ultrasound) besides just the exercises. The other office never did that. Ascend deserves every one of their five stars! They are located in a small older building in Vienna, but the staff is the best and the vibe is upbeat and friendly. I had a pretty bad rotator cuff tear with a stubborn post-surgery recovery. Kim was masterful in getting me back on a healing track. They are knowledgeable, focused and determined to get results. Although there is plenty of technology - ultrasound, laser, software, etc., - it is the friendly atmosphere and human touch that make the place so special. read more

I am so happy I found Nancy and Kim at Ascend! I was run over by a car and have suffered multiple injuries to including an open fracture in my femur/leg, open fractures in my foot, hip pain, shoulder issues and the loss of over half my patella. I received PT from a center in the same office as my orthopedic surgeon for over two months with little progress. When I was told I had to see a PT 6-7 days a week, I found ascend and made the switch. I didn't know what I was missing until I spent just one session with Nancy and another with Kim. They are so good at what they do-- combining care that's aggressive enough to speed up healing, technology that makes a difference, and temper it with your pain threshold in mind. I feel like they are more than a physical therapy business; they actually care.
