Also, English grocery stores aren't laid out the same. For example cookies might be in multiple locations rather than one designated "cookie aisle." Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

To be fair ADSA is still great for doing your weekly shop, maybe the best, but their prices definitely seem to be higher than last time I was there. To all Americans, please reserve your judgement, I do realize this place is part of the Walmart family. In the midst of the recession and with forever tightening purse strings, this store is a mecca of bargain basement prices and superb selection. Where else can you the vast array of products in a one-stop shop. The Wembley store has clothing, a late night pharmacy, all the basic housewares, electronics and of course, food. While I still prefer to buy vegetables and fruit from street side markets, buying spuds and carrots in bulk is best done at Asda. I particularly love the dry goods section where a 3kg bag of pasta rings in at £3.49 and every type of rice or cous cous is at your fingertips. The bakery includes West Indian hard-dough bread, a big favourite in my house and the staff is unbelievably attentive. When the vest tops I was looking for were out of stock, a sales assistant offered to call me when they arrived in. Seriously, when is the last time you were offered a personal service anywhere other than Harrods. If you are within a 1 hour travelling distance from an Asda, I would suggest the once-a-month stop in. Restock your pantry with the basics and leave the fancy stuff to organic shops and your community butcher.

It is quite deep! They have cool stuff here that you can't get in the US- drizzle able peanut butter, astronaut gummies, European treats, so many fun things. I got some fun goodies to take home. My friend shops here as her primary grocery store and finds it to be almost half the price of grocery shopping in the US. It was clean and pretty easy to find items and pricing. They have a large self checkout section and you pretty much have to fend for yourself in there, unlike American checkouts. You also have to scan your receipt to exit. While it is very fluorescent and not too exciting, like an American grocery store, I still found it to be quite fun.

They layout is strange. the way the organised their aisles has no real logic behind it. the frozen food is not even near the chilled products. the buscuits are not near the coffee and tea is ... Simply amazing. I can't rave about this stores recent makeover enough. I feel I should get paid…read morelike a top PR the amount I have enthused for the new store... which was long overdue being modernised and this Summer saw Tesco Watford become the talk of the town and the nation, as it's the first to get the flash new overhaul and it made the news. Literally. The renovations were undertaken without closing the store and whilst I admit I did stop shopping here while they were being carried out, I returned, opening day, with a fist full of vouchers to entice me back. You now have to queue to get in the car park. But...it's worth it and they now have car park assistants who direct you to spaces (layout has changed in the car park and disabled bays are now near the main doors). Outside is the same except for the swanky new Giraffe restaurant we are lucky to have in Watford now... But that deserves its own review later! Inside. Customer services is in same place, bit small and under staffed for a super store perhaps. There's a new 'scan and shop' section which I still need to try but I see a lot if peeps are using it. Food to go area is fab. Think salad bar to help yourself, loads if sarnies to chose from and pre packed salad and sushi goodies. Also it's a good section to nip to if picnicking. Plus there's self serve tills for this section alone so it's super convenient. The new bakery. Wowsers. So middle class and rustic. I lurve. Wooden table a la farm house laden with baked goods and hearty loaves. Also a counter with lots of posh desserts (quite pricey) and cakes. It's quite hard to grasp this is now where all bread and cakes are though. But it's early days. The toilet is in this section. No sign though. Annoying. Always busy and not keen on the buzzers they give you to wait for coffee. Bit ott. But there's a coffee cart directly outside store so I usually grab one there as less busy. Florence and Fred. Happy days. This section looks amazing. Trolleys are able to mooch the aisles and it really feels like a proper clothes store, better fixtures and layout/feel than Marks or Next. And stock is great, fab designs and cheap as chips. I always come away with something. Fitting rooms are spacious too. Rest of store super laid out. New pizza counter (still not a patch on Asda's counter pizzas though- listen up Mr Tesco!). Fruit and veg section is epic, so spacious and easier to navigate than before. Sainsburys a bit further along Cromwell Road will now be getting my custom. Firstly, for a large London store, it is complete crap. The large stores outside of London put it to shame. Stock is rubbish, and it really has nothing more than food. It is appalling. Don't ever do self scan on any type of large shop, they now scan ALL your shopping again when you get to scan out, because they don't trust anyone. Where before there was a designated checkout for people who self-scanned, they have now lumped it together with usual shopping, so where you can scan out, you now have all the muppets checking out huge trolleys-ful of shopping, and you have to wait ages. Pathetic, and completely useless for the organised people amongst us, who do self-scan for speed. Go to the manned checkouts and get them to do it, since that's their job, and you don't get humiliated and assumed to be a thief, either. As for the car park outside, yes, I know there is building work, BUT that does not excuse what is happening on the first floor car park, where you're lucky if you find a space because of the car wash, electric vehicle chargers, and chauffeur cars who hang out there all day reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. But what tipped me over the edge today, is the amount of homeless lying around, chucking rubbish everywhere, and as I saw this morning, defecating in the car park spaces. Absolutely disgusting. If Tesco think we are putting up with that, they are sorely mistaken. I suggest you take control of your car park, have security guards patrolling, throw out the undesirables, and clean the place up. It is a cesspit, and for a store associated with food, it is disgusting I shall be making sure this review is well-publicised, and will be writing to the council about the state of the place, and that you, Tesco are operating a car park where you allow homeless people to hang around and defecate on the premises, where people are supposed to walk, and park their cars. I saw some clothes online that I wanted to purchase but decided that I really wanted to try them on…read morein store. There were 3 rows of womens clothing, none of which I wanted. The selection was really poor. As you either have to pay for parking or spend £5 to get the parking ticket validated, I decided I would get a couple of bits, so to not have had a totally wasted journey. I went to the self checkout to pay and was told I was the wrong end, as I had a trolley. I went to the other end, which had a bit of a queue, even though there were tills available. When it was my turn I went to the till, only to be told I couldn't use it as I had a trolley and this till was for baskets. So basically there were tills available, but not for me to use. I approached the happy to help lady and pointed out how ridiculous this was. She was , as the tabard suggested, happy to help and told me just to use one of the tills which were free. What a palaver, just to buy 2 items, and how confusing that you can't use a till that's available, they'd rather have a queue and people waiting unneccarily.
